[A certain girl's pov]
Run, run away.
These words were the only thing in my head as I ran. It wasn't out of sadness, nor was it out of fear that I ran. I simply ran because I was angry.
A few months ago, her majesty ordered me to lead a mission along with a trusted companion, but little did I know that this trusted 'companion' isn't as loyal to her majesty as I thought.
No, it's more like the concept of loyalty slowly vanished from his morals, despite serving her majesty for fifteen years. He was a great person, he who aided the injured and respected the dead.
But now, he is simply a madman, indifferent even towards his own kind. When did it start? I never even noticed, and I doubt anyone ever did.
After all, to survive means to trust anyone you deem acceptable.
Run, run away-- the last words I heard from my other companions. They told me to escape for he is simply irredeemable, and let their deaths be in vain.
That is unacceptable. I can't simply run away. If I run away, what do I say to her majesty? That my people are dead? that her aid betrayed her? That he succumbed to his desires?
Yeah. I'm angry at him so much that if I had the power, I would rip him to shreds. However, he is still a person her majesty trusted, and I simply can't let his desires break his mind.
For that, I need to end him for her majesty, as well as himself. If I lack power, then there is only one option.
As I was thinking of my objectives, raindrops began to fall from the bright and sunny sky. It wouldn't have been a problem if it wasn't for the fact that the rain was brewing into an actual storm, but this--
"This getting even more complicated..."
The words unconsciously slipped past my mouth. However, since I'm alone-
"you doubt anyone would hear you, is that right?"
A melancholic and dry voice crept up from my back. As if a permeable hand that has my heart in its grasp, I was easily unable to move. It's not because I was restrained, it was simply the instincts of my body simply telling me danger.
Biting my tongue, I let my mind feel the pain, snapping back control over my body before retreating a few meters away from the direction of the voice. I shifted my attention, but no one was there.
"Don't be scared now, I simply want to ask a few questions if you wouldn't mind," the voice whispered from the back of my ear. A shiver ran down my spine, but I mentally prepared myself to go against this person.
clasping my hands, I sent a kick straight to the source of the voice, but again, no one was there. "It wouldn't do both of us good if you're not going to answer you know?" the voice asks from every possible direction.
There was no longer only a single source and it felt as if I was already caught in his hands. "How can I talk to you when you're not even showing yourself?" I asked in an attempt to draw him out.
"Sorry, but you simply have to make do with my voice," the voice resounded once more. As expected, he wouldn't easily budge. After all, this guy is an assigned guardian of the god of purity, blessed with the power of infinity-- a power surpassing everything that flows along time.
"Are you ready to answer now?" The voice asked patiently, keeping the dry tone. As if I have a choice, to begin with, "what's your question?" I asked back.
"A few days ago, a certain bunch was reported to have been trying to scout the tower of Dorr Valia. I investigated the matter personally as it concern the gods, and when I did, I found a bunch of... supposed people deformed into bloody extraterrestrial-looking monstrosities."
"Although I have no idea who turned them into those, a demon sighting in the midst of all that feels connected, doesn't it?" The melancholic voice echoed with the rain.
"It wasn't me that did it," I responded, "I'm sure you already know of that with your abilities."
According to her majesty, as a power unbounded by time nor laws, infinity allows access to clairvoyance and even resistance to almost every kind of attack. Although he only received a droplet from a drop of the god's power, to be as powerful as this is already mind-boggling.
"...That is true," the voice responded after a brief silence, "but you do know who did it, don't you? Furthermore, you are a demon, little girl, are you not aware that this continent is illegal grounds for the likes of you?"
there was no sense of threat from his voice and it sounded like someone talking casually, but the voice itself already carried an aura that feels overpowering.
"Did I scare you? Please forgive me as It seems that I still lack control. However, I do suggest you get out of here before anything troublesome happens," as if talking out of apatheticness, the voice sounded uncaring.
"Is this the will of your god?"
"No, it is mine," the voice still sounded indifferent, so I cannot tell if he's lying or not. Either way, I still have something to do here.
"Then what about the culprit?" I asked. "For the reason of causing the transmutation of... supposed material beings in the vicinity of the altar to Infinity, his ego would be permanently destroyed." The voice responded rather dryly.
Destroying the ego? The ego is the source of the mind and the soul. If it is destroyed, then he would permanently cease to exist. If it's only killing him so that the ego could recycle itself, then that would be acceptable, but what he says means to permanently cease his path of existence.
A true death.
"I can't allow you to do that. He may be a monster, but even the cruelest, most irredeemable monsters aren't deprived of their existence," I responded, "furthermore, I want to kill him myself."
"..." The rain was getting stronger and his silence felt uncomfortable when suddenly, the drops of rain stopped mid-air before expanding into thin javelin-like structures all directly aimed at me.
"Do you think you can win against me?" The voice asked, but contrary to his actions of pointing a billion spears from as far as the eye can see, his voice remained indifferent, even bored. "my patience isn't infinite, you know?"
"Just so we're clear, there are no more survivors from the incident. Is that true?" I asked with a shivering voice. "Technically speaking, they're all still alive. Only in never-ending suffering," The voice responded still sounding bored, "what about it?"
"Then I don't need to win." clasping one of the rings in my fingers, I activated the teleportation artifact. The ring began to glow almost instantly, before teleporting me to the savepoint we built upon arrival.
The ring's teleportation speed is specifically designed to be as instantaneous as possible because using it would mean that the situation is dire. The only reason I haven't used this is that there is only one save point and that savepoint breaks after one use.
After all, its purpose was to properly deliver a message in case the mission failed. I wanted someone, any survivor to at least return home to deliver the report to her majesty.
If I used the savepoint, then that would mean all hope is lost for any survivor, and since I have another objective now, I didn't bother to even use it until now.
As soon as the light dissipated, I teleported to a cave near the port town of Bellos. Although the demon continent is situated at the northwest of this continent, we decided to dock at the less guarded port town of Bellos where security is lax compared to the security of northern dominion.
Standing up on my feet, I instantly crumbled as my balance felt weak. Turning my attention to my leg, small holes that pierced exactly through the nerves of my leg were bloodily shown.
Although he could have instantly killed me even without those spears, he decided to threaten me and give me a warning instead by sheer precision and strength that even disregarded my resistance to magic.
Activating my attribute, I healed the vitals of my bloody leg. At the same time, my stomach suddenly grumbled, echoing in the cave. Then I realized that I haven't eaten for days because I was running on emotions and it seems that the sudden sense of calm brought back my attention to my own body.
"I'm hungry..."
