Chapter 38 - Chapter 36

I woke up to the bustling noise of the street. The fresh air of the ocean is different, but it felt good. When we arrived at the suite yesterday, we were guided to a town hall to confirm the twins' identities.

Sophia and I didn't really have a way to confirm our identities, so we just paid for an identification process and hung along with the twins. After confirmation, we were headed to a hotel suite overlooking the ocean from the high point of the town.

Our suite was a Three-room suite with a living room and bathrooms. Although there is no dining room and kitchen, there is a cafeteria on the ground floor and it is also possible to call for room service.

"White, you awake?" A lively Sean knocked and asked from the other side of the door. "I'm up. I'll just get ready," I responded.

From the side of my bed, I caught sight of a small pouch and a note saying 'Money for the day. Don't spend much.' This probably came from Sophia since she's the one in charge of our budget, so this probably means that she went out too.

After stretching, I decided to wear a casual shirt and shorts. We didn't bring any luggage with us because we had a storage bag that allows for an efficient space despite the small exterior appearance.

Since we're in a port town, I figured casual wear would be better than my raincoat which is more of an armor. Besides, the smell of the air feels so relaxing and we're inside a town. I don't know how exactly the repulsion enchantment works, but it would be bad if it causes unnecessary trouble.

I then headed to the living room where Sean was waiting, "Where's everyone?" I asked. "Sitri said she wanted to visit a bookstore and Sophia went along with her," Sean responded.

Is Sitri seriously going to a bookstore instead of looking around the town? I thought in my head. However, she's probably doing what she's doing because she wants to, and I have no reason to say something about it.

"Let's go then," with an excited expression, Sean skedaddled to the door, leaving me with a dry smile on my face. "Good grief," I commented, before following after Sean.

"So, where are we heading?" I asked Sean who had sparkling eyes looking at the bustling town. Although the town is separated into districts and we are currently in the accommodation districts, the streets were noisy with people who looked like they were sightseeing and taking pictures with magic tools.

"I want to check out the marketplace first," Sean responded with a joyful smile. I simply nodded and followed after him. Although I want to check out the beach, I figured it's better to visit later afternoon with everyone, and I think Sean understands that too.

If the accommodation district was already bustling, then everyone is just shouting here at the market district. There were stalls lined up to one side of the road which was made out of red bricks, and there were shops that looked like small houses on the other side. I guess it was designed that way so the view of the ocean wouldn't be obstructed.

"Are you going to buy something?" I asked Sean. I figured there wasn't much to sightsee in a market district, so I thought he was going to buy something.

"Hmm, nothing comes to mind. Let's try the food then since we haven't eaten breakfast yet," Sean said. I thought he was too energetic for a child who hadn't had breakfast, but I just kept the thought to myself.

the smell of spice and grilled meat whiffed in the air, catching both Sean and my attention. "Let's try that!" Sean exclaimed. Observing closer, the cook was grilling minced meat and adding a variety of powerful spices. The cook then used his spatulas to toss the meat around before adding a white and brown source.

He then placed a batter on the other side of the grill. Once the batter looked like thin pita bread, he then added the grilled meat and encased it inside, leaving one side open for the scent and smoke to escape. With a spatula, he placed the dish inside a brown paper wrapping.

We didn't notice until the process was over that Sean and I were already drooling from the arousal of our senses. Although I have eaten many dishes in my past, not one stimulated my senses as much as this did.

"W-we'll take two, Mister!" Sean stuttered as he wiped the drool from his lips. I quickly did the same, but it kind of feels like I did something suspicious with how fast I did it.

I was still unaware of the value of the money Sophia and I got from the old man, So I just used Sean as a guide to follow.

After grabbing our food, we continued and looked around the districts. Although we weren't supposed to spend much, the food and drinks were so delicious that they didn't feel like a waste at all and before we noticed it, we were already running from one store to the next.

Unfortunately, it seems that we let the fun get ahead of us as we accidentally collided with a thug-looking bunch. "You brats want a fight?" The guy spat on the ground before asking with an unsightly expression.

This situation is my first so I eyed Sean for a response, but he looked like just looked confused with a dry smile on his face. "Were sorry!" grabbing my arm, Sean ran away shouting the apology.

After gaining distance, we finally calmed down and catch our breaths. It wasn't that we were physically tired, but it felt more like a withdrawal after exhilaration. looking at each other, we couldn't help but laugh.

"Wait, wait. why didn't you just say you're a noble or something?" I asked after calming down. Normally, nobles would use their status to get away with problematic things, but Sean didn't even show any sign of doing it.

"Hm? Ahh, it's because I don't want to, and nor do I have to," Sean says with a proud look. Inquiring deeper, it seems that it's because of the gods. After the gods appeared in this world and built Dorr Valia, the monarchy was removed.

In fact, every ruling system was either removed or rewritten. Kings, ministers, and emperors were all positions that were abolished, while everything below the duke rank was kept. Most ministers from democratic nations were redistributed to the dukedoms, and those dukes are the ones who serve as the Gods' puppet for governing the eight dominions of this continent.

The gods' reasoning for this was simple, 'if you want to be respected, then you should earn it.' In retrospect, this was the result of the unfairness between the people that the gods have seen.

At present time, every noble position is still a position of prestige, but they don't carry as much blood honor for the gods have stated their perspectives.

The nobles, because of either fear or respect, just went along with it and in the end, a society with no wars and disunion in society was created. Furthermore, the fact that gods were the ones reigning the lands, no one attempted any kind of foolery like rebelling or corruption.

"So if you want others to respect your honor, you need to prove it with your own hands first, huh. What an ideal way to settle things," I can't help but let out a snicker.

Remembering the boastful and arrogant nobles of my previous life, I wondered if things would be the same as there if the gods reigned over as well.

"Yeah, that's how it is," Sean nodded his head, "in the gods' eyes, we're all equals. Anyways, let's meet up with the other for lunch."

"Didn't we just have breakfast?" I asked. Sean opened his pocket watch and showed me the time. "Time goes by so fast," I commented. It seems that we both lost track of time from our little adventure.

"They're probably waiting near the beach, Let's go," Sean signaled me to follow after him, but I stopped in my tracks as I felt like I accidentally bumped into something.

I didn't even see someone, but there was a person who was wearing a black cloak in front of me. It wasn't that I didn't absent-mindedly bump into him, it was more like I didn't even see him until he bumped into me.

"I'm sorry, I didn't notice-," I looked up at his face to apologize, but he was actually a she. Her gold eyes paired well with her pale skin and black hair but it didn't look like she was in a good mood.

Stepping out of my way, I bowed lightly to apologize and followed after Sean.
