Chapter 6 - New Body? 1

At Darius's shout, all of the gems glowed with power. Then, suddenly, streaks of black lightning arced between the gems, slowly dying them black. The lightning streaks tried to strike the magus, but an energy shield surrounding the magus reflected them.

When all of the gems were dyed black, the lightning seemed to consolidate before blasting straight into the body within the vat. It was then that Kane felt an enormous suction force that shattered the red field around his cage and launched him straight into the body. He could only let out a shocked,

"Wha-"

before he lost consciousness. Unbeknownst to Kane, the magus stepped back and watched as the liquid within the tank was slowly absorbed by Kane's new body. As soon as the liquid was fully drained, the vat cracked open, releasing a dark blue mana mist. At this moment, Kane's eyes opened, and Darius stepped forth.

"Welcome to the world! I am Darius, your creator! ..."

At first, Kane was disoriented, but as soon he saw Darius, he had to force himself not to flinch. Any sign that his unpurified soul was within this body might lead to Darius's suspicion. He didn't even want to imagine what would happen if he was caught. Thankfully, Kane didn't yet have good control over this body, and his physical reactions were still quite slow compared to his mind.

Turning his attention back to Darius's speech, Kane realized that It was extremely difficult to understand his words. In Kane's view, Darius sounded like he was saying.

"You ****** be grateful for ** ******** you a *** body."

Naturally, with almost every other word missing, he would be hard-pressed to understand. Kane looked at the magus with a confused expression until the answer finally dawned upon him. It was the erased memories! It was too unreasonable to expect that the natives of this world would speak English. All of Kane's previous understanding came from Sho!

The system had only kept 4% of Sho's memories. This was enough to contain all of Sho's alchemy knowledge and a little bit of the language. But effectively, all the confirmed background knowledge Kane had of this world was gone. He frowned; perhaps losing those memories was a bigger loss than he had expected.

However, seeing the confused look and frown, Darius had a revelation that made him want to facepalm. He had been so excited that he had forgotten to give Kane memories! Realizing this, the magus shook his head, mumbling.

"To think my judgment has been affected by emotion. Perhaps I've been spending too much time with my granddaughter."

With a calmer mood, Darius waved for Kane to follow him as he walked to the opposite side of the lab. Having no choice, Kane followed. Sitting Kane down in a chair, the magus shuffled around before pulling out two cards and a medieval knight's helmet. Although the helmet seemed interesting, the thing that grasped his attention the most was the two cards.

They looked like metal tarot cards with shining images in the middle. As Kane observed closely, he could see the figures in the images, moving in a dreamlike dance that drew him in the more he watched. Kane was leaning forward to get a better look when the helmet landed on his head, blocking his vision.

While Kane was disoriented, Darius walked forward and placed the cards on Kane's chest.

"One for knowledge and one for loyalty."

At those words, the magus's hands glowed slightly before the cards sank into Kane's chest. Watching Kane suddenly go still, Darius sighed. He had paid a great deal to obtain those cards. In fact, in order to find a compatible soul for the titan warlock body alone, he had killed thousands. As a light magus, he couldn't just slaughter civilians—the number of bribes he was forced to pay almost emptied his personal vault.

"To think the perfect soul would show up right at my doorstep."

The magus's eyes became sharper, and an uncomfortable air spread throughout the room, causing the now unconscious Kane to involuntarily shiver.

"Let's hope this titan body is worth it."

Instantly, the atmosphere calmed, and the chair floated up behind him.

"I guess I'll leave him to my daughter for now."
