Kane couldn't help staring at the system message in satisfaction.
[So it's a fusion technique? The system fixed it, so it can't be bad, can it? I wonder what power it would have if I fused it with a magus level technique?]
Unbeknownst to Kane, he had made a huge misunderstanding. The only difference between magus-level meditation techniques and those of the acolyte level was efficiency. Because most acolytes don't have high control, their bodies can't handle the movement of magic power. However, massive talents like Kane were an exception.
Darius had already placed all of his magus level techniques, excluding those from his family heritage, into the library for Kane to choose from. How could Darius know that Kane wouldn't even put them in his eyes? After all, there really were too few magus-level techniques in this world.
Turning around, Kane quickly left. There was nothing else for him here. Although [Titan's Roar] was a fusion technique, it could still be cultivated alone. Kane wouldn't fuse it with any techniques until he found the perfect one.
As he stepped out from the library, Violet strolled over.
"So, what took you so long?"
Kane smiled.
"I read through the introductions for every book. Unfortunately, my memories seem a little incomplete, so I've decided to learn as much as I can."
Violet's lips twitched. He really was a weird one. Most people who had their memories overwritten didn't even notice any abnormalities. Kane's ability to sort through his own memory was astounding. Not only that, but he also took the time to read the introductions to every book.
[It seems he has the talent to be an alchemist.]
Regardless, she still felt that Kane had made a mistake.
"Don't get caught up in useless knowledge. You have the talent to be a magus, so you must use your time wisely. Do you remember how to get back to your room?"
Kane nodded.
"Alright, head back and study the meditation technique. Only come out once you've memorized it. Understood?"
Sensing that this was the end of the conversation, he bowed slightly, as per etiquette.
"Understood, young Miss."
He then bowed to the old Magus and left for his room. Violet looked at his retreating back with a complicated gaze. Kane had been more exceptional than she and her father had expected, it seems that she would have to report this matter to Darius.
Kane rushed straight to his room, eager to meditate. Although he had wanted to live like a normal person in his previous life, that was only because his father wanted to force him to lead the company. Now, he had the opportunity to become strong enough to gain the ultimate freedom!
...
Boring! That was all Kane had to say about his current study. He found the experience similar to having to memorize math and physics equations without knowing why. It was only when you started understanding how things work behind the scenes that things like math and science became fun.
Unfortunately, most people never have the pleasure of experiencing such joy. As of now, Kane was one of those people.
"For now, I'll just memorize it. I can figure out how it works later."
By the time Kane finished memorizing the meditation technique, his stomach was grumbling, and the sun was starting to go down. Thankfully his body was enhanced, or he would be aching from sitting on one spot the entire day.
Stretching, Kane stood up and walked outside to find food. Surprisingly, though, he didn't get far. Standing outside of his room was a burly man. The man was looking at him with an expressionless gaze, causing alarm bells to ring throughout his body. However, the threat he gave off was different from the magi.
"A knight?"
The man nodded his in confirmation.
"What do you need?"
Kane coughed awkwardly. The man's attitude was neither servile nor overbearing; however, Kane sensed an air of superiority in the man's eyes.
"I came out to report that I finished memorizing the tome. I also came out looking for food."
"Understood, go back inside your room and practice your meditation. Food will be delivered shortly."
Saying this, the knight walked off in the direction opposite Violet's room.
[Interesting. Is he reporting to Darius? Or perhaps Violet isn't in her room?]
Kane dispersed those thoughts immediately. It didn't matter. His only concern was to get stronger as fast as possible. If he was going to escape Darius's influence, he would have to reach the level of a grade three acolyte.
Not wasting time, Kane went into his room and immediately sat on the bed. The first step to meditation was sensing the magic power. This step was the hardest for most people. Some would go months or even years before they sensed magic power.
However, Kane didn't worry. He had been a soul and had continuously interacted with magic power while getting tortured by Darius. If anyone could sense magic power on the first day, it would be him. Following the instructions, Kane first focused on his heart. He felt each beat, like a drum that got louder and louder. Soon he could see the vision of his heart beating, moving blood throughout the body.
The first step was complete. Next, he followed the veins. He didn't start with any specific route. He simply drifted with the blood. Sometimes he was in his arms, and other times, in the leg. He even looped back to the heart a few times. Eventually, he reached a location where a warm blue light resided—the appendix.
Step two was complete. Carefully he approached the appendix, enveloping himself in light until his mind took complete control of it. He could feel the magic power circulating throughout his body. It was exhilarating! Suddenly, a knock came from the door, and Kane was thrown out of his state.
Slightly annoyed, he stood up opened the door. Outside was an equally annoyed maid.
"Milady told me to bring this to you."
The maid's gaze was unpleasant, but all Kane could see was the food. When the maid handed him the plate of steaming hot quiche, Kane forgot all about his previous annoyance. The food looked absolutely delicious! Kane had been prepared to eat hard black bread, but it seems he overthought things.
"This is food made with the corpse of a magical beast. It should be helpful with sensing your magic power."
Kane didn't tell the woman that he had already sensed magic power for fear that she would take the food away and return with hard black bread. Instead, he gave the maid a warm smile.
"Thank you!"
The maid seemed a little startled to receive such a warm thanks, but before she could say anything, Kane shut the door and began eating.
