Although Kane still needed to find a solution to the failsafes within his body, he turned his attention away from the problem. He was about to meet the magus's daughter, Violet. He couldn't allow himself to show any holes in his facade. As this thought shot through his mind, he finally saw the little girl he had seen before as a soul. Following the servant's etiquette within his memories, Kane kneeled down with his head lowered, right hand on his chest.
"Hello, milady, your servant Nigel greets you."
Nigel was Kane's new name based on his memories.
"Aww, they changed it from Sho. I liked that name better."
Violet sighed. Before she could say any more, the beautiful made spoke.
"Milady."
Hearing the warning in the maid's tone, Violet pouted.
"It's not like he remembers anyway."
Turning to Kane, the girl smiled kindly.
"Nigel, tell me about your past."
"Yes, milady."
Sifting through his memories, Kane effortlessly found the past of the so-called servant named Nigel.
"I was born in the city of death as the child of a slave. Not long after I was born, a magus bought me. There I suffered countless tortures and bloodline experiments from a dark magus."
Violet nodded her head with fake pity, but Kane wasn't offended. The little girl clearly knew that his so-called memories were fake.
"So what happened next?"
The little girl said with fake curiosity.
"Your father happened. At the time, the light and dark magi were at war. Your father bravely slaughtered the magus who experimented on me and kindly took this slave in as a servant. I am greatly indebted to your family."
At this, the girl looked at her maid gloatingly as if to say.
"See! What did I tell you?"
However, the maid only sent back a disapproving smile. Seeing this out the corner of his eye, Kane was confused. It was clear that Darius greatly valued his granddaughter to the point where she called him father. For the maid to constantly express her dissatisfaction with the girl, she must have quite a high position. In addition, she seemed to know about Kane's situation. It was highly likely that this maid was an acolyte. It seemed Kane would have to be more careful around her.
Turning back to Kane, Violet once again smiled.
"It's a great thing that our house could discover a servant so loyal. Tell me Nigel, would you like to become a magus?"
Kane inwardly sneered, this little girl was putting on airs. Kane already knew that the reason Darius gave him this body was to become a magus that could serve and protect his daughter. However, Kane didn't call her out for this, and instead feigned surprise.
"I can become a powerful being like your father?"
Violet chuckled amusedly as if she was humoring a child.
"Of course you can!"
Kane gave, what he thought was a genuine smile.
"Thank you milady!"
Violet waved her hand as if dismissing something trivial. Kane found it strange to see a little girl posturing like this.
"Enough with milady this and milady that! Call me Violet from now on."
"Yes, Ms. Violet!"
Violet turned to the maid.
"Alright, escort Nigel here to get his aptitude tested. If he has good talent then allow him to choose a meditation technique."
The maid nodded and took Kane out of the room.
As they walked, he decided to try scoring some points on the sly.
"Ms. Violet sure is amazing! She has such a strong demeanor at such a young age!"
Without turning around the maid responded.
"Our young miss is already a tier 2 acolyte at age 14, having an impressive demeanor is a given for a genius of her level."
Kane was stunned, not because of Violet's level but because of her age! His own body was only 16 years old; however, he was already almost two meters tall. Meanwhile, this little girl looked like a ten-year-old. She really was a loli! Kane shook his head out of pity, all that magus training had probably stunted this poor girl's growth.
Unaware that the man behind her was ridiculing her young miss, the maid pulled open the door to a dark and dreary room. Kane looked inside curiously; however, he couldn't see a thing.
"Lord, the servant is here!"
After, a moment's wait, a grunt of acknowledgment came from inside the room. The maid turned to Kane.
"Go inside and listen to the instructions of the magus within."
Kane nodded seriously and walked into the room. In reality, he wanted to swear!
[What kind of test needs to be done in the dark!]
However, logic overcame his irrational fear of this test. Why would they need to harm him? Thus, he confidently strode into the room before stopping a meter in from the door. The reason being, he could only see until this far. Everything in front of his face was pitch black. It was as if the light coming from the door was being swallowed up by the room.
Boom! The sound of the door slamming closed behind him rang throughout the room. Kane was left in darkness, as a dreadful feeling spread throughout the room. Suddenly, a pair of glowing eyes opened from within the dark causing him to shiver. Those eyes clearly weren't human.
"Take three steps forward and reach out your hand."
Kane did as he was told, but as he reached out his hand, a cold sensation surrounded it. Causing him to freeze. He didn't dare move his hand any further. Suddenly, a layer of light appeared around his body. Kane stared at his body, shocked, as a voice came from the darkness.
"One ring."
Before the voice could even lower, another layer of light appeared around Kane's body.
"Two rings."
"Three rings."
"Four rings."
As the number of rings increased, the speed in which they appeared also slowed down. By the time Kane reached five rings, the pace had reached a crawl.
"Five rings."
He watched intently as the sixth layer flickered into existence. However, the voice didn't ring out. Instead, the sixth ring disappeared as soon as it appeared. Just like that the layers stabilized on five rings, shining brighter than ever.
"Congratulations boy, you have fith grade talent."
As the voice rang out for the last time the creature closed it's eyes and the door swung open.
