For the next few weeks, Kane was experimented upon, tortured, and probed to the point where he felt that any normal pain would be child's play compared to this. Looking at the tattered state of his soul and the still-busy magus (Who Kane found out was named Darius.), writing something down near the vats, he collapsed to the floor of the cage.
[Does this guy ever sleep?]
Kane knew that Magi didn't need sleep like normal people, but wasn't three weeks without sleep too long? Thinking of the nonstop torture he had experienced in the past two weeks, he swore that if he ever got out of this place, he would pay this b*stard back tenfold. He felt sorry for the little girl. Afterall, he would have to kill her father. Unfortunately for her, nobody treated him like this and got away with it.
Clang!
Kane turned his head at the noise, only to see the magus pouring a strange liquid into a vial before placing it under a burner. After inserting a red gem into the base of the burner, the flame turned on just like a modern-day stove. While Darius waited, Kane could hear the man mumbling.
"Hmm, the soul has proven especially tenacious and adaptable. It took me three weeks to bring the soul's willpower to an acceptable level for transfer."
The magus lifted the vial from the flames, capped it, and placed it in a thick green liquid.
"Results appear to show that the soul has exceptional compatibility with the lesser titans bloodline. Perhaps, it is time to erase the memories and initiate body transfer."
Pulling out the vial from the liquid, Darius lifted his hand, and Kane was surprised to see that the liquid had turned sky blue, with the same ethereal glow as his divine protection. At that moment, Darius began walking toward the cage, and Kane scooted as close to the edge of the case as he could without touching the bars.
[No! Don't come over here, you sick b*stard! What messed up thing are you planning on doing next?!]
But before Kane could react, the mage poured the liquid into him through the cage. Kane tried to dodge to the side, but the liquid was like a heat-seeking missile that flowed directly into his body. Closing, his eyes Kane prepared for immense pain, but none came; instead, a healing warmth pervaded his entire body. As he looked down at himself, he could see the all the pieces of his soul that had been cut off were rejuvenated. In fact, he felt even stronger than before.
Before he could celebrate, Darius grabbed the cage, mumbling to himself.
"Placing subjects soul into the purifier now."
The moment he heard that, he knew he was screwed. The time for his memories to be erased had finally come. He tried screaming, but to no avail, he was still on mute, so any chances of talking his way out had long since disappeared. It wasn't long before Darius walked up to a large black cube and placed the cage into the little grove on top.
As soon as the cage clicked into place, blue lines streaked all across the cube. The pattern was so pleasing to the eye that if he hadn't been the one in the cage, Kane would have loved to take a picture. Strangely enough, as the light became brighter, he became even calmer.
[So this is it, huh? I wish I could have killed all those b*stards first.]
His sister, the thugs the killed him the second time, and Darius. Kane sighed. But right when he was ready to give up on everything, a message appeared in front of his eyes.
[WARNING! The System has detected fatal danger to the host's soul!]
[Processing...]
[Emergency start-up has been deemed necessary.]
[Initializing...]
[Welcome to The Dimensional City Building System]
Kane sat stunned as more and more words flashed across his vision at a lightning-fast speed.
[Divine protection detected...]
[System has deemed divine protection as insufficient to protect the host's soul from purification.]
[Would the host like to sacrifice 96% of Sho's memories in exchange for complete protection? yes/no]
[Time left until purification 3...2...]
If Kane was still inside his body, he was sure that he would have tears streaming down his eyes. As he quickly clicked the yes, he screamed in his heart.
[IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!]
...
Despite his initial excitement of receiving a system, Kane was at a loss of what to do next. Glancing down, he could tell that the purification array was still going. He couldn't help but ask.
[System, how much time do I have until the purification machine stops?]
There was a long pause before the system finally answered his question.
[It is recommended that the host finds his own answers to the problem.]
Kane tried to ask a few more useful questions but the system was entirely unhelpful. His soul turned red with anger, but before he started his tantrum, he glanced over at Darius who was fiddling with one of the human corpses in the vats. Seeing the magus, Kane quickly cooled down. He could not afford to alert the Darius of any problems.
[Alright then, lets just start with the basics then. System status!]
[Host: Kane Enderson]
[Race: Divine Soul]
[Level: 0]
[EXP: 0/100]
[SP: (250/200)+50] [Comment: Overcharged due to pure state.]
[All other stats are locked: It is recommended that the host finds a new body]
[Skills: Incompetent Alchemy] [Comment: This system pities you.]
Kane frowned when seeing his status. He really didn't have much to work with. Straining his mind, he struggled to think of something to do. He closed his eyes and sat down to search for more functions from the system.
However, unbeknownst to him Darius started walking over to retrieve the cage. The moment Darius's hand touched the cage, an alert rang in Kane's mind.
[System Mission: You have been captured by Light Magus Darius. Claim the lesser titan warlock's body and escape his influence]
A new mission! Keeping his eyes closed, he read the contents of the mission. At the same time, Darius observed Kane closely.
"The subject appears to be in a dormant state, this is a good sign."
Hearing Darius's voice, Kane stiffened slightly, but he didn't open his eyes. Inwardly, he gave a sigh of relief.
[It's a good thing I closed my eyes, or else i'd be screwed. I guess my luck is starting to look up!]
While he sat quietly in the cage, the Magus moved him over to the vat and slid the cage into a slot at the bottom. Immediately, Kane felt his surrounding go dark as he was completely submerged in fluid. Thankfully, souls didn't need to breathe.
Darius then proceeded to slot several large blue and green crystals into the side of the large vat before finally inserting a large black one in the center.
"Finally, the culmination of my research will come to life!"
The magus gave a wicked smile that Kane couldn't see and pressed his hands against the vat.
"NOW RISE!"
