Right when he was about to give this little Loli a piece of his mind, a tall, dark figure appeared behind Violent, causing Kane to flinch back into the bars out of surprise.
While Kane's whole body twitched in pain within the cage, the black-robed man spoke to the child.
"Violet, what did I tell you about going into my lab?"
The little girl pouted and hugged her father. The man was middle aged with a jet black beard reminicent of a certain doctor/hero. The only noticible difference was the thick unfassionable robe that he wore.
"I just wanted to see what my new servant was going to be like."
Looking at Kane's body still twitching on the floor, Violet's father frowned.
"That's no good, honey. Look at how clumsy this spirit is. He'll only be able to serve you once I erase his memories and implant new ones."
[Damnit, why do you think that is?! Not only was I killed twice, but my soul was also captured right before I could go to heaven! Who wouldn't be jumpy!?]
Although Kane inwardly cursed but in the presence of his real kidnapper, he didn't dare say much, lest he provoke the man. While Kane was lost in his fury, the father began escorting his daughter out of the lab. Soon it was just him and the kidnapper. It was only then that Kane dared speak.
"Why do you have to do this to me?"
From what he knew, Magi are incredibly intelligent people. For a magus to learn a spell, they must first memorize the complicated spell formation before slowly editing it to match the individual who wants to cast it. Then they have to implant the spell within their hearts without the formation shattering. If the spell shatters, the contents are erased from your mind, and you have to repeat the process all over again. In other words, powerful Magi must possess terrifying intelligence. As such, he assumed the magus would know what he meant.
"Ah, an intelligent one. The more I interact with your soul, the more I feel that it's a perfect fit. As to your earlier question, the answer is easy."
Kane sat down in his cage.
[It seems this one likes to talk.]
"Your soul is incredibly powerful. In fact, it is stronger than most tier 3 acolytes."
"Wait. Tier 3?"
Although Sho, his previous body's owner, knew the difference between a Magus and an Acolyte, he has no idea of the supposed levels the split them. After all, to the common people, the world of Magi was a mysterious existence that only the most powerful could come close to. If Kane didn't express his ignorance, there was no doubt he would draw suspicion.
"Ah, I had forgotten you were a commoner. An acolyte is at the level prior to becoming a Magus. This level can be split into four different stages. First is tier zero, where the acolyte is unable to cast spells. Tier 1 allows the acolyte to learn a single level 0 spell. Tier 2 allows for two spells, and so on."
Kane frowned.
"So, how do you level up as an acolyte?"
As Kane asked this question, the Magus's face turned vicious.
"Look boy! I'm not here to answer your questions. I only gave you the chance to ask because my granddaughter insisted."
[Wait, granddaughter? Didn't she call him dad?]
But after the man's previous outburst, he didn't dare ask anything else, but surprisingly the man kept speaking.
"Nevertheless, a promise is a promise, and I never finished answering your first question. What you were probably asking is why I didn't take the soul of another magus. Afterall, the soul of any magus would be stronger than yours."
Kane nodded in agreement.
"Well, my answer to you is that you don't need to know."
[Then why the f*** did you waste time pretending to answer!?]
Turning away from the fuming soul, the magus left and began fidgeting with the experimental equipment.
"You see, a soul which will soon have its memories erased doesn't need to know anything."
At those words, Kane's stomach sank. He thought that maybe a way to escape would be revealed by the man's words, but in the end, the attempt was hopeless.
"Alright, let's begin experimentation."
[Oh sh**!]
Kane watched as the magus walked toward him with a pair of red-tinted medical scissors.
"Wait! Wait! Wai-" Kane screamed.
But before he could utter another word, the magus waved his hand causing him to be unable the speak.
[A f****ing mute button!!]
If the cage wasn't the spiritual equivelant of an electric fence, Kane would have started shaking the bars like a mad man. Instead, he started stomping on the bottom of the cage, trying to convey just how much he disagreed with such a painful course of action. However, even his stomps were silent.
[Sh**! Sh**! Sh**!]
As the magus got closer Kane got more and more panicked. As far as he knew, there were few fates worse than being a magus's experimental subject. Right before the magus reached the cage, he spoke.
"Oh that's right, I never got to thank you for making my granddaughter cry."
With those words, the magus reached the scissors into the cage and snipped off a piece of Kane's soul.
[AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh!!!!]
A silent scream of unimaginable pain only rang through his mind. The pain of having a piece of one's very existence completely severed was worse than anything Kane had felt until now. Not even death hurt more than this.
Before the severed piece of his soul could fade away, the magus quickly placed it into a glass container. Upon placing the container into his pocket, the magus grinned in Kane's direction.
"I'm looking forward to working with you Sho."
