Chapter 2 - Spawn Killed

Kane woke up to the same pain that he had fallen asleep to. "Ah what the hell! You can feel pain in heaven?" His comment was met with laughter. "Ha! Look at this idiot! Hey Boss! Looks like we beat him until he thought he died!" Kane frowned and opened his eyes, but as he did the memories came flowing in. The body he was in belonged to a boy called Sho. Sho was an apprentice alchemist who accidentally sold a faulty potion to a customer. Although the potion hadn't caused the man any harm, they insisted on a compensation of three times what he had paid initially.

Despite Sho paying, later that day, the man came back with his lackeys to ransack the small shop stealing Sho's hard-made potions. From then on, the men came every week to claim 70% of his earnings. One day, Sho was fed up with their treatment and rushed to report to men to the city guards. The result was easy to see. Seeing the familiar situation Kane cursed, "F*** are you serious!?" Shocked by Kane's sudden shout, the man who had taunted him earlier jumped back in surprise. Realizing he had been spooked by a little kid, the man angrily stepped forward and kicked Kane on the side knocking the air from his lungs.

"You dare to curse in front of the boss? If you want to court death, I'll be your wingman!" As Kane coughed and gagged for air, the boss stepped forward. He had raven dark hair and a scar that went diagonally across his face. With his already ugly face, the scar made him look especially comical. Alongside his trussed-up pheasant clothes, which were basically rags made to look like noble garb, it was hard not to laugh. Despite the comical look, the man was huge like some kind of medieval barbarian. Standing in front of Kane, the boss spoke. "Alright, alright no need to get violent we're just here to have a talk." Kane looked at his bruised body and couldn't help but chuckle at this clearly false statement. But before he could say anything the scar-faced boss slammed his face in the dirt with his full weight. Kane who was already weak-bodied before being beaten up could not stop his nose from shattering.

While still holding Kane's face on the ground, the man leaned forward. "Interesting. What's so funny about this situation?" Kane tried to say something, but as he did the boss shoved his face further into the ground. The man's superhuman strength caused Kane's skull to creak under the pressure. Dirt, blood, and teeth mixed in his throat causing him to choke and cough until finally, the boss relented. Slapping the back of Kane's head lightly, he stood up. "Oh, I seem to have forgotten that your face was shoved into the ground. Silly me." Then as if picking up a ragdoll from the dirt, the boss lifted Kane's frail body by his scraggly blond hair before shoving a knife into his stomach.

As he threw Kane back into the dirt, Kane screamed inside his head. [What the F*** kind of cliche is this!?!! Aren't I supposed to have some kind of cheat or something? Why am I about to die again? What about my heaven-defying talent or fortunate encounter?] However, Kane's prayers were left unanswered. "You dared sell a faulty potion to me, but I generously left you alive. You can imagine how surprised I was to hear that you were trying to report me to the guards!" The boss turned and pointed at a lanky man with a long drooping mustache "Monkey, come over here! You'll be in charge of body disposal, choose two men, and make it painful."

Needless to say, two hours later Kane was a soul floating next to his dilapidated body. "F*** those f****** spawn killers, and f*** whoever put me in this unlucky ass body!!! If you were going to revive me like that, then you shouldn't have revived me in the first place!" Despite his grievances, he immediately went quiet as an ethereal light shone around his body and he began moving upward. Looking down, Kane grinned. Is this what he thought it was? What was a stupid world of pain compared to living in heaven? He could feel his soul vibrating in anticipation as a golden crack appeared in the sky.

But before he could ascend any farther, he heard a voice. "Interesting, this soul is quite strong. It'll do for my experiments this time." Out of nowhere, a giant hand came down at Kane. Frightened, he tried to fly away but it was to no avail. However, before he could be captured, the hand clashed with the ethereal light. In an instant, the bright light shone and the hand was shattered. Seeing that his dreams were in sight, Kane rejoiced and flew toward the crack in the sky. Before he could get far he heard the voice again. "Eh? Divine protection? It seems this soul is better than I thought."

Once again, the giant hand appeared in the sky. Although Kane could see that this attack was different from the last, he had no choice but to continue flying forward, However this time he wasn't so lucky. Immediately, his divine protection broke and the crack in the sky slowly closed. At the same time, the hand speedily dragged him toward a dark tower in the distance. Seeing his chance at heaven crushed, Kane screamed like a kidnapped maiden. "Heaven nooooooooooooo!"
