Chapter 4 - MIDNIGHT ATTACK

The apartment Gia stayed in was in a rundown alley so at a time like this, it should be quite lively that was why she felt it was quite strange that the whole building was extremely quiet. Listening at first, the footsteps were not easily perceptible but keenly, one would hear a distant rustling, like someone stealthily moving around.

It was completely dark outside with the only light coming from the small crescent in the dark blue sky. A foul smell filled the room which prompted Gia to block her nose with the shirt hem. She nodded for Sean to do the same. The building had many free air outlets so the gas could not stay inside for long.

A click then suddenly sounded and at the same time something clicked inside Gia's head. oh no! they have guns. When the first shot rung, hiding under the couch was the first instinct. Three men jumped through the window in quick succession. Because it was dark, making out their silhouettes was quite difficult, only the barrels of their guns shone slightly.

Sean was injured and could not fight that well so it was up to Gia to protect the both of them. She beckoned him to follow her. Two pairs of legs moved silently across the living room. The men had not noticed but were instead searching around the other side of the house.

During their movement, a vase was knocked on the floor startling the three men who both turned to their direction at once.

With their location known and no other place to hide, they were now only left with the option of running. Sean limped ahead with Gia hot on his heals urging him to go faster. The sound of bullets being fired rung across the silent place making a slight echo.

In the building, no one from the other houses dared to go outside and have a look so it was a fight they had to face on their own. How did the men know even the house she was staying in and? Gia also wondered if the two attacks were related.

She could not help but look at the back of the running Sean expressionlessly. Just was it with him that made them attack twice in a single day?

Running alone couldn't stop them from being killed so Gia had no other option but to use different means. Grabbing Sean by the hand, she pulled him inside the bedroom and tightly locked the door. There was urgent banging on the door. When it could not open, the men switched to hitting it with their legs to forcefully pry it open.

Inside, Sean watched in awe as Gia opened up a safe and an armory came into view. Different kinds of guns and other various types of weapons. A gun was thrown at his direction. Catching it, Gia felt that it was such a shame. Sean still wore his white shirt from before, blood was already dripping from hi opened wounds, with that face that was a bit handsome and his hands holding the gun quite stupidly, Gia fought the urge to slap her own forehead.

She gave out instructions in a low voice. Sean's face turned paler by the second. He refused with the plan so seriously and only accepted when she threatened to knock him out and hand him over. The gunmen outside did not look like they wanted to kill him, even their method of shooting earlier was actually meticulously planned. They were not shooting to kill but rather to frighten them into submission.

Sean watched in horror as Gia climbed up the window sill then jumped outside. He was quite frightened and ran over to look but to his surprise, Gia had miraculously disappeared. Thin sweat formed on his brow and with constant banging of the door, he felt like he was going to die tonight, so holding the gun from before quite tightly, he awkwardly aimed for the door an said in his head, If worse comes to worse, I will just shoot aimlessly and kill whoever comes.

He was quite proud of his idea but soon paled when he saw the door hinges flying out one after the other.

Outside, Gia connected the living room via the window from the bedroom. The living room and bedroom were connected with a balcony from the outside. The window in the living room was the same one the three men entered earlier with. She jumped in with one swift motion and walked quietly across the room. Heavy sounds were coming from where the door was being hit so she turned around and headed there.

Her motions looked slow but in the blink of an eye she had already reached where the three men stood. Her feet touched the ground so softly and with the swiftness, it really looked like she was walking on air.

It was quite dark so the men did not notice a fourth person who had mingled in unknowingly. The door was beginning to fall apart and with one swift motion it would really break so Gia had to hasten her actions as well. She made a shot in the air that landed perfectly at one of the guys wrist. This prompted him to drop the gun he was holding down. A sharp cry escaped his lips.

Gia ran towards another direction, her footsteps were now heard and a few shots were rung towards her direction. Gia felt that even though it was quite dark, this was her house after all so she knew it like the back of her hand. She dodged the bullets with speed and rare agility. When she got the chance, she shot out two bullets in quick succession with each shot landing with precision at her attackers bodies.

She felt the pattern of their movements and knew just where to shoot. Three men were now writhing in pain, crying and hissing. Two quickly passed out and the one who was shot in the hand earlier was still standing.

He did not know what fell on him but he also soon lost consciousness.

Looking at the now fully unfunctional door, Gia thought it wise to bring it down, and she did, with one single kick. Inside, Sean was holding the gun tightly, his knuckles had already turned white. His face was filled with sweat and he was shaking slightly.

A slow voice rung besides his ears,

"If I stay with you for a week, I really will die"

Relief washed over him and he fell down in a pulp, breathing heavily.
