The next morning Cody was out messing with the jellyfish. It really did have the dark element attribute. How odd. The Fantiscaka drug hadn't appeared on an animal with previous elements before. Or maybe the mad scientist had literally injected the poor creature with more than one elemental fluid to see what happened.
Either way he felt sick. He didn't much like jellyfish but he didn't hate them either. No creature deserved to be experimented on by anyone. Especially with mixing elements into a dark element, that was just cruel. Cody paused thinking of his own ticking time bomb. Anyone who dared treat dark magic like this deserved to die.
Upon closer inspection, the jellyfish had both the fire and earth elements combined into its dark element. Dying must have been so painful. He gently stroked the dead jellyfish's top.
"Cody!" called a voice. Cody turned around in surprise. Of all the people why was Connor coming toward him. First how the heck did he find where I lived, second why just why…..
Connor eyed the newly built shed. "Nope." He said.
Cody looked at him, "Nope what? And how did you find me."
"Oh that." Connor pulled out some papers, "You missed some school assignments so I asked for your address."
"And they just gave it to you?" Cody grumbled, useless school office people.
He looked at the shed and the pile of wreckage nearby. "No way you're staying here." He grabbed Cody's arm pulling him to his feet.
"It's my place, get lost if you don't like it." Cody retorted in annoyance. Spoiled rich kid.
Connor kicked one of the walls of the shed. "Huh what do you know, it's actually stable."
"Cut it out, I spent hours on that if you don't mind."
"There is still no way I'm leaving you to sleep alone in a shed." Said Connor.
"Well too bad, cause I'm not leaving." Cody growled back.
Connor walked into the shed and sat down on the pile of blankets.
"Now what are you doing." Grumbled Cody.
"I said I wasn't going to let you sleep alone in a shed. So I'll keep you company." Connor smiled sweetly toward him.
"As if!" gasped Cody. Just where did this guy's confidence levels come from.
"But if you come back to my place I'll let you have your own room instead." He smirked so evilly as if he knew already that it would work.
Cody wanted to slap him, but at the same time a warm room sounded nice. He also wouldn't put it past Connor to actually sleep in the shed with him. He had already proven his irritable stubbornness.
"Fine" growled Cody "But you better give me a room that locks and is Connor proof." Just how much would he end up regretting this he wondered? Time to start searching for new real estate and this time no one was going to get a hold of his address.
He took the bus with Connor. It already wasn't going well. How did he know it wasn't going well? Well Connor currently had dragged him to a seat at the back of the bus and was leaning against him.
"I'm not a pillow." He muttered.
Connor turned his head as if to whisper in his ear. But instead he nibbled on it. Cody yelped shoving Connor away and earning the stares of several other riders on the bus. Cody's felt his face flush with color as he put his feet between himself and Connor. He proceeded to glare at him with his back to the window.
To his utmost annoyance Connor simply smiled at him and stared back clearly enjoying himself. He turned away looking out the window behind him. He flinched as Connor started stroking his lower leg.
"Cut it out" he hissed annoyed. To his surprise he stopped, but then as if to point out the technicality he started again a few seconds later. Cody was definitely going to not spend the night at this rate.
He looked back out the window doing his best to ignore Connor. Evidence of the hurricane still remained in several areas but a lot of the inner city had been cleaned up. Alleyway, alleyway, I'm not going to think of Connor, alleyway, alleyway full of people lying on the ground? He blinked a few time and jumped to his feet. Beside him Connor jerked at his rapid movement.
"Oye what's wrong?" Connor muttered.
He felt like retorting, but instead just went to the front and jumped off at the next stop. Groaning slightly he noticed Connor following him. Eh whatever. He hurried back to the alleyway and stared at the scene.
"Whoa, what happened here?" muttered Connor behind him.
It looked like a scene from a murder movie. Six bodies lying on the ground. Wait one was still moving. Cody walked over to him.
"Hey you, can you talk?" he asked gently shaking the guy. The man coughed weakly but nodded his head.
"I'll call the hospital." Said Connor backing up slightly and pulling out his phone. Cody didn't bother to tell him that the guy wouldn't last more than another five minutes.
Cody picked up one of the syringes on the ground that still had a little dark red liquid in it. "Where did you get this?"
The man wheezed and Cody tried again "Who did you get this from."
"Gift, they said…..they said we would become a lot stronger." The man coughed again.
"WHO." Cody stated.
"We did, for like ten minutes we were invincible." He coughed again, "That stuffs amazing you know? I was a fire user! And Boss Yammado he….." his speech broke off and he fell still. Clearly dead.
Cody hissed. Boss Yammado was all he had to go on, at least it was better than nothing. Would it kill dying people to give him a more solid clue, was Boss Yammado even still alive? Maybe he was one of these dead bodies.
Sirens sounded in the distance.
"We should go." Cody grabbed Connor's hand and started leading him away.
"Not that I'm complaining I like holding hands," said Connor, "but what was all that about."
"Better if you don't know." Said Cody. Rats, thought Cody. That probably just made him more interested. I should have worded it differently.
"Drugs?" asked Connor.
Cody paused and put on his most dead serious face and turned to look Connor dead in the eyes. "If you don't want to end up dead stay far away from it." He growled. He refused to say anything else on it. I can't let Connor get dragged into this.
