On the table Cody's body suddenly convulsed harshly then he lay still, way too still. Connor stared in shock, he wasn't moving, was he breathing? He couldn't tell.
Kyle returned to the room carrying a black box. He glanced at Cody and stiffened. He set the box down and pulled out five weird small crystal ball type things. In each glass ball was an actual crystal each one was glowing a different color. Kyle placed each of the five by different parts of Cody's body.
"What are those?" Connor whispered to Blaze.
"They are called Waycoa crystals, they basically force elements to separate temporarily." The brown haired guy replied.
Connor watched Kyle place them, he could feel element power coming off them.
A few minutes later Kyle seemed to relax. "They separated." He murmured. Cody's breathing had also returned to normal although he was still unconscious.
Blaze pulled something out of his pocket, "By the way Skystorm, the boss said to tell you that Brightspeed was data set E that he sent you earlier one. He was supposed to be one of the candidates for the anti-dark majikku pills testing. Although with this, all element thing, I'm not sure if that changes."
Kyle turned to a computer he had and pulled several documents up. Then entered some data and started running a program.
"Um can we focus on saving Cody instead of paper?" asked Connor.
"If this anti-dark pill will still work on him with the extra elements it might be the only thing that can save him." Kyle replied. "Originally they weren't supposed to be used until last possible second because they do have a 10% chance of death and if you live you lose all magic."
The computer beeped and Kyle looked at it.
"Well?" asked Blaze. "Is it usable?"
"50/50." Replied Kyle. "But right now it's all we got." He pulled a small container from a shelf. In it were a few black and white pills. Kyle selected one and crushed it into a cup. Then he mixed it with a little water until it dissolved.
"Wait don't the crystals solve the issue?" asked Connor.
"They are only a temporary fix." Replied Blaze.
Having Connor hold Cody's head, Kyle poured the medicine into his mouth. He waited about five minutes then removed the Waycoa crystals.
"Wait shouldn't we leave those?" asked Connor.
"The dark element has to form in order to be removed." Replied Kyle.
"Okay so what do we do now then?" asked Connor.
"We wait." Replied Kyle watching Cody.
Connor hated waiting. Ever since he was little patience had always eluded him. Now was no exception. Kyle had already grumbled about him pacing a few times, and also given up enforcing it.
How could he possibly sit still when the guy he loved who had risked his life to protect him had gotten hurt. It also stung that he couldn't help thinking it was his fault. If he hadn't been there Cody wouldn't of had to push him out of the way.
Even unconscious Cody was adorable. Connor felt like crying as he looked away again. He still wanted to do a million things with Cody from celebrating birthdays to things better left off paper. If the world stole Cody from him…..well he couldn't even process that thought.
Kyle finally relaxed but also seemed hesitant.
"What?" asked Connor immediately able to tell the difference.
"Something unexpected." Kyle replied.
"Oh sounds interesting given you don't look upset." Said Blaze. "Care to elaborate?"
"The meds finished working, but he still has his bright element." Kyle said.
"Wait how's that possible? All his elements should have combined into one massive dark element then been eradicated?" Blaze looked shocked. Connor didn't understand all of what they had been talking about, but he thought this meant he'd still be a mage?
Kyle nodded, "They should of. He is the first mage I've met capable of separating out one element even while unconscious. He must of separated it for so long that he somehow still managed to."
"So he's going to be fine now right?" asked Connor holding his breath.
Kyle nodded, "Yep. He'll probably run a fever for a few days, and be unstable for a week, but he'll live." Kyle looked at Connor, "I take it you'd be more than happy to look after him for a week?"
Kyle didn't even need a response. He already knew Connor loved Cody. It wasn't like Connor constantly told his brother all his troubles…..okay he totally was guilty of that.
"Well I need to head out," said Blaze, "Do me a favor when idiot here wakes up tell him I already told the boss he's taking a week off whether he wants to or not. Also tell him I'm glad he's okay and he needs to fill me in more before making random requests out of the blue. Oh and I'll take that Yammado guy back with me." Blaze looked at Kyle, "oh and Skystorm Lavalilly said she finished some project you needed her for so to talk to her when you get the chance." With that long memo he left the building.
Other questions flooded Connor's mind. Now seemed like as good of time as any for them. He looked at his brother, "So bro, when were you going to tell me all this CIA stuff."
Kyle signed, "Honestly never, you were a lot safer not knowing." Seeing the look on his brother's face Kyle continued, "Fine, here's the whole story. Only since I got nothing better to do at the moment, but if you go dragging yourself into danger I will personally lock you up and leave you in a safe padded room. Also before you ask no I didn't know Cody was Brightspeed before today."
Connor glared at him with that line. "Overprotective much?" he muttered. Connor gently stroked Cody's hair while listening to his brother's story. He honestly wanted to pick him up and hug him all night long, but he probably shouldn't move him yet. So Connor settled for stroking his head instead.
