Just how many times could he end up almost dying. Cody did not want to find out. He looked down at his clenched fist that had turned white. This is why having friends got you killed. Once he got Connor back he was never going to let him out of his sight again! Cody didn't allow himself to think of any other ways this could end. Positive thought. Come on brain stop thinking worst case scenarios.
Skystorm aka Kyle was driving his car to the address sent. A few minutes later Cody saw Blaze's red truck come into view. The address though was puzzling. It was an abandon lot with a previously burnt down shed. Most of the rest of the lot was covered in overgrown weeds and a few bushes. Did the sender send the wrong number? The buildings surrounding the lot looked a lot more menacing than this one. Blaze waved them over upon seeing their arrival.
"Oye Lavalilly, what's the chances of this being the wrong number I don't see anything here?" Blaze asked his mic.
"Looking into it still." Cody heard her voice chime back. He raised the volume on his ear piece a little. He wasn't use to wearing these much. Not to mention they itched.
Cody began making his own survey of the area. It was pretty deserted. The shed was hardly even distinguishable as a shed; it could have easily been something else. A few other random things lay hidden in the overgrown grass. Some broken pipes, an old sewer lid, something that resembled red mulch but the smell coming from it clearly said it wasn't.
Lavalilly's voice chimed back on the mic, "This is interesting, not sure but it seems very likely. Apparently under this area is an abandon subway area that never reached the surface. If I was an evil boss, I'd totally set up shop there."
"Is there a way in?" asked Cody.
"Not sure, it might connect to a sewer?" She said.
"What about the one over on the road?" Asked Skystorm.
"No, it looks like part of an older system that was also abandoned with the station. Oh found an old article, yep so there was supposed to be an added sewer and subway here when they were planning to build a supermarket, but the location was changed and thus abandon." Lavalilly sounded way too excited, clearly showing her nerdy side.
Cody returned to the sewer grate he had thought was just a lid and lifted it up. Below it stretched a dark tunnel that actually smelled quite nice. "Over here." He called.
"Yep this place screams evil lair." Said Blaze.
"No duh." Replied Skystorm taking the lead onto the ladder going down. On his face was nothing but concern for his brother.
Cody immediately jumped in after him and cast his bright element's first level skill, known as flashlight. The elements aura pushed through his hand creating a beam of light. Then he used his own modification to make the aura come from all of him. He was now a walking light bulb.
"You're so useful sometimes you know that?" said Blaze smirking as he landed beside Cody. Cody ignored him and kept walking. Since they were both solo agents they teamed up when necessary. But Cody still hated working with him, he frequently made light of dangerous situations and constantly blew stuff up.
Lavalilly gave them directions from an old blueprint she found. They walked for a ways then came to a wall. They obviously couldn't go through it.
"Uh detour?" Cody asked.
"I'm not seeing one. Hang on if it wasn't finished then we should be looking for a tunnel or entrance not on the map. Hang on I'll send it to you guys."
A moment later Cody's phone beeped and he pulled up an image. It was so old school looking and several of the lines were hard to make out.
"Got it," said Skystorm, he looked at Blaze and Cody "We'll spread out for now, I'll go here," he motioned to part of the blueprint, "Cody goes here, and Blaze can you look there?"
With that the three broke away and began looking for any kind of passage not on the blue print. Cody paused thinking, if I was looking for a hideout and had to create an entrance where would I put it? Where would be the easiest if I was a lazy evil guy? The place above it!
A small outcropping marked as storage, it was or would have been above the main control booth for the subway. Cody jogged over to check out his idea. The storage room was unlocked and actually looked mostly completed. It even had some dusty boxes. Cody paused to briefly look through them for clues. Most had bottled water and food packets. One had a halter and lead rope? Like for horses? But it was smaller, a llama halter? Weird.
In the back of the room he found it. A mirror on the wall was dusty except for a corner with a handprint. He pulled at it and the mirror swung open revealing a tunnel.
"Storage room behind a mirror second level." Cody called into his mic. He wasn't about to wait up though and he slipped into the tunnel.
"Wait up flashlight!" called Blaze.
Cody kept walking "Use your phone genius."
The tunnel turned into a steep downward climb but it was easy enough to scale. A light at the end appeared and Cody paused. The King was likely at the end of it. Cody didn't care though, he only wanted Connor back. He'd destroy the entire underworld if necessary.
He dropped the rest of the way already preparing a blind spell. He landed cat like on the ground looking around and his blood froze. In the corner tied up was Connor.
On the other side of the room was a tall man with glasses. He smiled at Cody and waved his arms in a welcoming gesture.
"Greetings Brightspeed. You found me sooner than I thought. I was hoping you and your friends would do me the favor of breaking down that annoying unfinished wall for me. Oh well I suppose I cannot win them all, however I already finished setting up my little welcoming party for you." His cold voice echoed around the small control room.
He pressed a button on the side of the control room and a sliding door on the old subway opened up. Into the large open space walked... a llama? Cody was confused.
