Waking up in a dimly lit cavern, Melvin went to rub his aching head.
*CLANG*
"Darn it." Melvin seethed, looking down after hearing the noise to see what had caused it. His wrists were bound in chains that led to the floor.
'What happened, where am I' Melvin thought, trying to recall the events that had led to his imprisonment of sorts. All he could remember was the hatred and fear he had in the moments leading up to his unconsciousness.
"Wait, what happened to the monster?" Melvin questioned. Not to anyone in particular, as he was alone. Then he remembered something strange. 'That's right I finally got my power.' Melvin thought, grinning wildly at the thought of not being powerless any longer.
"Oh, your finally awake,". A strange voice was suddenly heard from one side of the cave a man with a torch was walking towards Melvin. "Please, do not try to use your power it won't help you as you are now." The stranger told him.
"What do you mean my power won't help me?" Melvin asked, trying to get answers from the mysterious person. "Lets just say I know more than my fair share about that power of yours." The stranger replied, very cryptically. Melvin could have almost said with a hundred percent certainty that he seen a tear in the strangers eye.
"Nevertheless, I have been sent to retrieve you." The stranger said, smiling happily as if their previous conversation had never happened. "By who, and who are you any way?", Melvin questioned aggressively. "By the elder of the this village obviously, and my name is Rando." the man said.
"Rando, what kind of name is that?" Melvin asked. "Its the name that was given to me by my master." Rando replied, swiftly as if he was ready to answer his question be for it was asked. "Now anymore questions before I release you from your bindings?" Rando asked, lacing his words with sarcasm not actually thinking Melvin had anymore questions for him.
"Yes I do have another question, what are you?" Melvin asked. Melvin had noticed that the man was skinny and pale and wanted to get an answer to the strange feeling he was getting. "I'm a ghoul of course, you fought me for yourself you should know that much." replied Rando, raising his hand and extending his razor sharp claws.
Melvin couldn't believe it, 'It really was him I fought in the forest.', he thought. "Why did you bring me here instead of killing me then?" Melvin asked. Walking over to undo the bindings connected to the floor, Rando answered, "I brought you back because of what you are it would be a shame to lose more of you,".
"Now come along, it's time for you to meet the elder." He said, removing the chains from the floor. Melvin couldn't wrap his head around it, 'What did he mean by that', he thought. After being lead out of the cave Melvin looked around and couldn't believe what he could see. "Where are we Rando?" He asked, stunned by the view.
"We are in the Lost Woods settlement. Now stop asking pointless questions I have to take you to meet the elder." Rando said. With his questions on hold for now Melvin let Rando guide him through the settlement. All the while Melvin could see children playing, however some of these children had animal like features.
'Is everyone here a moster?' Melvin thought, not wanting to ask any questions till he could get answers from the elder. Finally though they arrived at a grand building in the center of the settlement. "Now, be respectful to the elder or I will deal with you myself." Rando said, hinting that if Melvin didn't he would definitely regret it.
Pushing the door open Rando entered the building, leading Melvin through the door behind him. Once inside Melvin began to look around the voyer. 'Wow' He though, his jaw almost hit the floor. The walls had big life like portraits of each elder leading to the current one, and on the ceiling hung a beautiful blue crystal chandelier.
"Impressive isn't it? Each one led us through rough times, just like I intend to do." A voice resounded throughout the room. The voice had come from a large man, his large belly and big beard had given him away as the current elder. "Elder Tim?! Why are you here?" Rando asked, flabbergasted by the sudden appearance of the elder.
"I was bored waiting for you to get to the meeting room. So I decided to come to you instead." he replied. "You should have waited this matter should be dealt with privately." Rando said, in a hushed tone nervously looking from side to side. "Oh really? Tim said, drag his words on for dramatic effect. "Yes really, he's one of them!" Rando said, saying so very sternly to the bigger man. Tim's eyes widened at this revelation, "You can't be serious, your joking right?"
"Unfortunately not he used 'that' when his life was endangered, he must not have been aware of his lineage." Replied Rando. 'What are they talking about what is 'that' and are they talking about me' Melvin thought, trying to rationalize everything he was hearing.
"Quickly then we must hide this revelation from the others." Tim said, quickly walking and beckoning the other two to follow. Not that Melvin had a choice, being lead by chains and all. They passed by many rooms until finally they arrived at the last door on the floor.
"You should be safe in here for the time being, just don't let the sun in the room." Tim said, removing the chains from Melvin. "What are you talking about don't let the sun In?" Melvin asked, voicing his concerns to the large man for the first time. "I mean the sun will cause you immense pain, didn't Rando explain anything to you?" He replied.
"Explain what to me?" Melvin asked, stepping back slightly like something bad was going to happen. The thought of escaping had long since left Melvin's mind he didn't know where he was and apparently he still had more to learn here.
"Your a vampire duh!", another voice had interjected there opinion into the "secret conversation" the three were having. "I'm a what?! But vampires are a myth meant to scare children into being afraid of the dark." Melvin said, stating this very matter of factly.
"Maria!?" Tim shouted, a bit surprised he hadn't noticed her sooner. "Relax dad, it's not like everyone hasn't already figured it out anyway. You had him put in the cave until nightfall." Maria said, placing her hand on her hip and tilting her head as to emphasize her point.
"Wait are you telling me vampires are real?" Melvin asked, the shock setting in as he finally remembered what happened after he used his ability.
--
"Argh!" Melvin screamed, writhing on the ground in agony as the sun burned his skin before he passed out.
