Melvin walked into his home and went to his room hoping that he would finally get some real answers to his predicament, 'Me being a vampire is just insane, it can't be true can it', he thought to himself continuing to walk up the stairs towards his door while remembering the feeling of being burned by the sun, even though he hadn't been burnt earlier.
His feeling of unease about how the conversation was going to go steadily grew as he approached his room, 'What am I even gonna say? Will Brian even be able to answer my questions, he is a robot after all', he thought. He reached for his door handle when the door opened up.
Looking at the figure in front of him, his mind went into shock, "Who-", Melvin managed to squeak out before being yanked into his room. Falling to the floor with a loud thud as the stranger had let him go as soon as he had passed the door frame.
Melvin looked around the room in a panic after having been yanked into his room so suddenly. He could make out the figure of a woman in front of him. Blinking rapidly to clear his hazy vision Melvin could finally see who it was looming above him.
"Maria! What are you doing here? I thought you weren't allowed to leave the settlement without attendants being the Mayor's daughter and all." He said, practically shouting. He was just astonished by the fact that she had made it into his house without alerting anyone in the city.
"Well I have my ways. However, I need you to stay quiet and follow me." She replied, practically sprinting out the door and down the hallway. Melvin had a few options, one report her to the MCG and possibly have to dispatch his new 'friend', or two follow her and see what it was that was important enough for her to infiltrate the city.
Melvin had decided on the latter and chased after Maria. 'She is really fast, but not faster than me', he thought, speeding up and catching up to her in an instant. Running through the streets and down back alleys Melvin learned a whole slew of things about the city he had never known before. The alleys had been mostly empty except for those that had been closer to restaurants and clothing stores.
"Where are we going?" Melvin asked, still following closely behind. "We are going to talk to the council," she replied. "What council? The monster council? Or do I even want to know about this council?" He asked. "You'll see when we get there, Mister thousand questions. Now stop talking and keep following" She said, slowing down to walking speed and peeking around corners until they had finally made it to the wall that was all the way around the city.
"Now all we need to do is get over this wall and then it's time for you to meet 'them'." Maria said, smiling away like she usually would. However the change in her heartbeat wasn't missed by the heightened hearing Melvin had received after having awakened his vampiric blood.
'There are a few reasons somebody's heart beat raises, but something tells me she's not actually excited,' Melvin thought. They had scaled the wall with relative ease, seeing as though neither one of them were human, it made the climb even more insignificant. "If you don't mind me asking, what are you?" Melvin asked.
"If you must know, I guess there's no point in hiding it from you. I'm an Elf, and part of the first noble bloodline." She said, proudly stating her noble heritage. "I know you're a vampire but do you know anything else about your bloodline?" She asked.
"I don't. I know very little of my family's history apart from the fact that we had a hand in building the city that you and I just left." He replied. And that was the truth, Melvin knew nothing of his family's past and why he had vampiric blood.
"Well that's okay, you'll learn more once we get to where we're going. Now come on, we still have a ways to go." She said, smiling at him as if to cheer him up. As they walked Melvin's mind wandered back to what she had said. 'You'll learn more, what did she mean by that?' He thought.
After walking for what seemed like an eternity she finally stopped at the foot of one of the two mountains that the city was built in between. "Where here, just go inside and all your questions will be answered." She said, gesturing towards an opening that looked like it connected to a mineshaft.
"You want me to go into a dark creepy cave alone, after I just got beaten down by Rando in the forest not but a few days ago? Are you out of your mind?" He questioned her.
"Look I don't know why they even wanted to contact you alright they just told us that it was imperative that they talk with you about your new 'condition'." She said. Hesitantly Melvin finally entered into the cave his eyes adjusted to the darkness rather quickly. 'Should I really be trusting of one of the people responsible for kidnapping me in the first place?' He thought to himself.
As if to answer his question though a loud rumbling was heard behind him and the entrance had collapsed leaving him trapped. "Great just great, I thought it would have been a good idea to follow her and possibly get a few answers to the many questions I have but no. I just had to get trapped in a freaking mountain with no way out!" Melvin shouted, punching a hole into part of the cave the size of a basketball.
'Great, I'm becoming less and less human as time goes on. I never would have been able to do that a few days ago, I also wouldn't have been able to hear a person's heart beat from 100 yards away or see in the dark' He thought, becoming more and more aggravated at his situation.
"Now, now, she was just doing as instructed. We, unlike you, cannot be in direct sunlight, which is most peculiar for one of our kind. However, we have much to talk about with you young one." A hooded figure said, standing beside Melvin with his hands in his sleeves.
"Who are you? And what does it have to do with me?" Melvin asked, missing part of the man's words through his irritation. "As I said we would like to talk with you about your new found status as a Vampire, and as for who I am let's just say I am one of the council for now, please follow me." The hooded man said as he turned around and started walking slowly making the robe produce a shifting noise as it dragged on the floor of the cave.
