While walking through the cave to the exit a thought had gone through Melvin's head, 'I need to find a way to explain all this to Lydia but now probably isn't the best time.' he thought while looking towards Grimm.
"I wonder if it's still daytime out there." Melvin said.
"I doubt that very seriously, we have been down here for quite a while now." Grimm replied.
"How long is quite a while?" Melvin asked, to which Grimm had stopped moving and closed his eyes. A few moments later Grimm opened his eyes again and said, "About half a day we have plenty of time until the sun comes back up."
Melvin stood there speechless to which Grimm took as a sign of shock and disbelief.
"I know what you're thinking, young one, and the answer is that unlike the sun walkers we cannot walk around freely in the sunlight so we came up with a way to sense the sun. That will be your first lesson as a vampire in training how to feel the sun." Grimm said.
"You're telling me that we've been down here for half a day!?" Melvin shouted, ignoring what Grimm had said about him learning how to feel the sun.
"Yes, we have been down here for half a day. Now where are we headed, young one?" Grimm said.
"Wait, do you mean that you're going to stay with me while you train me? I thought you had a place to live?" Melvin asked, concerned for his mental well-being.
"Why didn't anyone tell me that you would be staying with me?" Melvin asked.
"To be honest I thought you would have been thrilled to have your mentor living with you." Grimm said, confused by the sudden change in the situation.
"Well, we have the extra space in the house so I don't think that's going to be a problem, the problem would be if the MCG discovers what you are." Melvin said.
"Don't worry about those dogs, boy. I've faced much worse and lived through it." Grimm said. Continuing on their way Melvin and Grimm continued to discuss how they were going to go about his training.
"We need to be able to explain who you are to others without giving it away that you are a vampire." Melvin said.
"Well, we can always say I'm just your uncle who's visiting from out of town" Grimm replied. Having decided on that the two had arrived at Melvin's house. Arriving outside of the home Grimm looked at the family crest above the door and nearly fell over.
"Uncle what's wrong?" Melvin asked, using the new cover they came up with for Grimm.
"Nothing to worry yourself with nephew I was just surprised that's all." Grimm said, still looking at the crest. 'This boy is even more special than we thought,' Grimm thought to himself. Once they had gotten Grimm settled in it was time for Melvin's training to begin.
"First as I said we need to get your 'Sun Sense' up to a usable degree that way you can use your vampire powers to their fullest." Grimm said, sitting in the floor waiting for Melvin to join him. At that moment his phone started to ring.
-----
Pacing back and forth was Lydia, she had no idea what to do. It was the first day of her 'special assignment' and she had already failed spectacularly. 'I lost Melvin right after he went into his house.
Now what am I supposed to do, I am not going to tell them I lost sight of him on the first day,' she thought. 'I'll just give him a call to see if he really disappeared or if he just fell asleep,' she decided. After a few rings someone answered the phone, "Hello? Lydia is that you? Why'd you call it's starting to get pretty late shouldn't you be heading to bed?" Melvin asked, his voice rattling of multiple questions.
"Well, hello to you too. The answer to most of your questions is yes, but you weren't home earlier so I was just checking up on you." She lied.
"Well, my uncle came in and he needed my help unpacking his stuff so I wasn't really able to do much today." He said, lying to her also.
"Okay then, well bye." She said, hanging up the phone. 'Melvin's uncle came in? I thought his uncle was in an entirely different city?' she thought. 'Oh well time for bed,' she thought, walking over to her bed letting out a yawn.
-----
Melvin was getting tired of his training, more specifically sitting on the floor with his eyes closed trying to focus on the location of the sun.
"I can't do this anymore, please let's focus on something else for now." Melvin pleaded, trying to get Grimm to teach him something else.
"Patience, young one, the first steps are the most important. If one is unbalanced, they will fall, it takes time to learn 'Sun Sense' but it will be worth it in the end. Now enough talking, back to training" Grimm said. Melvin just huffed and closed his eyes again, this time though he felt a tingling sensation directly underneath him.
"What does 'Sun Sense' feel like uncle?" Melvin asked.
"Well 'Sun Sense' feels like a tingle in your skin like a weak sun shining on you, why do you ask?" Grimm asked.
"Well, I wasn't sure, but I have felt this feeling before. The last time the sun was up, it felt stronger but now I know for sure I can tell exactly where the sun is." Melvin said, smiling at Grimm.
"What?!" Grimm shouted, taken aback by how quickly this young vampire had picked up the ability.
"Now, can we begin the real training or are you going to make me do more pointless drills for abilities I already have?" Melvin asked, being sarcastic as he stood from the floor to stretch his legs.
"Well, young one, it seems you are a very quick learner so I will just have to teach you something that will take you longer to learn." Grimm replied, walking over to the mat in the training room.
"Get yourself ready, you're about to learn to fight the vampire way." Grimm said, taking off the top part of his robes. His physique was comparable to a marble statue and he looked like he was in his mid to late thirties. 'This is insane I can't compete with him,' Melvin thought, looking Grimm up and down looking for a weakness.
Noticing his stares Grimm decided to speak, "You won't find a weakness, young one, and if you can't beat me you'll have a hard time beating the others so come take your first step in the vampire world." He said.
