"Get in there, young one." Grimm said, shoving Melvin forwards towards the unaware blood bat.
Tripping over a rock Melvin fell on his face, the thud echoed through the cave where a blood bat had made its nest, The blood bat looked like a giant blood red bat that was somewhat humanoid but more bat-like with spikes along its back and little intelligence.
The blood bat turned in the direction of the disturbance, it looked down at Melvin and let out a terrifying screech, it swung its giant clawed wing at Melvin who rolled out of the way and jumped to his feet as quick as he could.
"Oh that is an unexpected development indeed." Grimm said, looking at the stature of the blood bat.
Confused, Melvin looked at Grimm and said, "What's an unexpected development?"
"Well, that is not an ordinary blood bat, it's an alpha blood bat." Grimm replied.
"An alpha, what the heck is an alpha?" Melvin asked, never having heard of such a thing before.
Ducking under another swipe from the blood bat without taking his eyes off of the creature. The creature let out a blood curdling shriek and Melvin's body had frozen in place.
"What's happening Grimm!" Melvin shouted.
"The blood bat didn't get its name for the crimson color of its skin and fur, it's called the blood bat for its ability to paralyze you with its terrifying shriek," Grimm replied.
Watching everything that was happening Grimm was sure Melvin would need his help soon, or he might not make it out of this alive.
Not that it wouldn't be warranted; this creature would put up a decent fight against any of the vampires on the council, although it alone wouldn't be able to beat any of them just make them sweat a little.
Melvin could only watch as the monster's claws came closer, a loud bang was heard when the creature's strike collided with his chest and slammed him into the cave wall.
"Ugh" Melvin grunted, falling from the wall to his knees spitting up blood from the powerful strike.
'I'm supposed to kill this monster on my own, this is crazy,' Melvin thought, focusing his thoughts while wiping the blood from his mouth. With wobbling knees Melvin stood up getting into a fighting stance.
"Alright I still have some things you haven't seen yet!" Melvin shouted.
His eyes glowing a bright red, he used his blood powers to pick up the blood he had just spit up and compress it into four small spheres.
Running at the creature Melvin had the blood spheres circling him, the blood bat went to shriek again but at that moment Melvin sent one of the blood spheres into its mouth to keep it from doing so.
"Oh no you don't I'm not gonna let you do that again!" Melvin shouted.
Seeing that its shriek was being stopped, the blood bat stood there in confusion that this person had stopped it from shrieking.
This time it was Melvin's turn to take advantage of the immobilization of the opponent. He struck the blood bat in the stomach knocking it back a few feet.
The blood bat tried to retaliate with a few swings of its own, but Melvin sidestepped the first leaving himself wide open for the second attack.
A large gash was made as the second attack had connected, slashing his chest, not slowing down his own assault Melvin jumped and slammed his fist into the creature's face leaving its jaw hanging there dislocated.
The blood bat was furious with this so it had swung at Melvin, being in the air and not using his wings Melvin didn't have enough time to dodge the strike so he took it head on and his legs had been hit.
A small *crack* was heard as one of his legs was broken by the impact of the strike. Leaving Melvin one option, he formed another set of blood spheres from the blood on the ground and threw all four of the new spheres through the creature, one through each of its wings and one through each of its legs.
The creature limped back and tried to shriek again, but alas without the bottom half of its mouth the sound it made was more like a gurgled cry of desperation.
Taking advantage of the wounded state of the blood bat Melvin moved forwards through sheer will and struck at the creatures stomach, unbeknownst to Melvin he had used another one of his blood spheres to enhance his strike punching a hole straight through the blood bat launching it out of the cave down to the ground in the woods outside of the cave.
Watching all of this Grimm was at a loss for words, 'I knew he had improved a lot, but this is ridiculous when did he learn to use his blood powers so thoroughly, I'm sure he hasn't had the time to practice on his own, or is it just pure instinct,' Grimm thought.
Following quickly after Melvin who had jumped out of the cave down to the ground chasing after the blood bat. Melvin looked around expecting to see an injured blood bat, but what he saw confused him even more the blood bat was dead.
'I knew my punch had caused quite a bit of damage to it, but I didn't think I hit it hard enough to kill it,' he thought, seeing the hole in the creature's stomach pouring blood.
"Good job, young one, I didn't know you had been practicing with your blood powers." Grimm said, walking down to where the two were.
"I haven't been, I don't even know how I killed the thing." He said, dropping the remaining blood spheres, his eyes turning back to their normal color.
"Well that is interesting but for now find the creatures core and bring it to me that is what we were here for to begin with." Grimm said.
Melvin did as Grimm had told him to do, limping over to the now dead blood bat he used his hand, changing his nails to claws on instinct, and split the creature open to search for its core.
After a bit of digging around he had finally found the core, the blood bat's core was a small red sphere that was only a bit bigger than an adult's fist.
It was producing a faint light that had aided in the finding of it. Melvin, limping back, had brought it over to Grimm who placed it into his robes after wiping the blood off of it.
"Good work on fighting the blood bat on your own, I thought you would need help especially since it was an alpha but again you have exceeded my expectations and killed the monster on your own." Grimm said, complementing Melvin on his victory over a challenging opponent.
At that moment Melvin began to sway and collapsed from over exertion and blood loss.
"Well that was bound to happen at some point I just didn't think it would take so long." Grimm said, picking up Melvin's unconscious body and carrying him back to their makeshift camp.
Waking up Melvin checked himself over and sure enough he had been wrapped in bandages, but seeing he was in his tent he felt reassured that after he fell unconscious Grimm had brought him back to their makeshift camp.
'Thanks Grimm,' Melvin thought to himself. Laying on his back letting his body rest after the intense fight he had just went through. His wounds were healing but with the sun now out his healing was slowed, he would have to wait until it was night again to fully recover from his battle against the blood bat.
So to pass the time Melvin drifted off to sleep, he dreamt of a time before he had known he was a vampire back to when his parents were still around. He dreamt of the time before the great war between monsters and humans.
