Chapter 14 - Exploring A Not-So-Looking Beehive

The sun flashed brightly against Luxs face, the wind blew his hair back.

Bash!

The giant earthworm didn't take kindly to its prey running away, yet it wasn't fast enough to catch up to the speeding buffalo.

Lux got too comfortable and found himself being hunted by a monster while half asleep. He had to grab Aria and run at full speed, the earthworm was too powerful for him to fight. Lux fastened his paste.

After a couple of hours of giving chase, the earthworm lost interest and gave up. Lux was now tons of miles away from home in another part of the hot desert. He thought that he might as well explore the area and maybe kill some low level monsters for his last rune.

Once he got his fifth rune, Lux didn't really know how to finish the next two steps. He hadn't found a monster that was classified as a boss level monster and he had no idea how to get his second skill.

Last time he got the skill Swipe but that was when he finished step 3, he never really found out how he got the skill. So far his mastery level for Swipe was 16 and he was stuck on it ever since he figured out how to see other creatures from a 5 mile radius.

Lux scratched his head in confusion and continued running around until he reached a peculiar biome. The ground turned golden brown, a nexus of lines forming a hexagon pattern spread through the whole terrain for miles. The farther Lux traveled through the weird terrain, the thicker the lines became as hexagon indentures were made like honeycomb.

Aria had already woken up by then and just stared blankly around the biome like it wasn't anything special. Lux on the other hand was in awe of everything around him.

Shiny golden pools of honey were almost everywhere, using Swipe, Lux could see farther into the biome without getting closer. The system of comb stretched out underground as hundreds of bees buzzed around their hive.

Lux traveled on foot traversing the thick lines of comb. He couldn't travel with the buffalo since it was too big to travel on. Then suddenly the bee flew towards Lux madly. Lux moved to the side swiftly and dodged the attack. He slashed at the bee with the dragon bone dagger, golden brown blood spilled everywhere.

He saw that he got a small amount of experience from killing the bee, meaning that it was no stronger than a level 15. Another group of bees swarmed Lux, they struck madly at Lux with their stingers. Lux moved around them hastily, the bees weren't too fast so it was easy to dodge them all.

Using Swipe to the max, Lux pinpointed every bee and killed all of them in one slice. Lux wondered if he could get his last rune by killing multiple of them. He massacred the whole group but didn't get a single rune. Lux frowned.

He found a little entrance that led into a system of tunnels just like the ones from the ants colony.

The difference from then and now was that Lux now had Swipe which let him map out the whole system of bee tunnels. He saw that there were some bigger bees and one huge one downer below.

"That must be the queen and her guards" Lux also saw other bees that looked more feeble and smaller which were probably the workers.

The ones he killed before were more different than the guards he saw next to the queen, they were the drones but Lux never heard of there being more than 3 types of bees in a hive.

He shrugged it off.

After some more traveling and killing off some more drones, Lux found a huge chasm. It was filled to the brim with honey cells all covered up in a transparent subtle white coating. Lux thought of how crazy the sight was, it was almost beautiful if not for the fact that the drones kept interrupting his time of awe.

After some more death, Lux climbed the side of the honey chasm with Aria on his back and broke through the thin white coating of one of the honey cells. He stuck his finger in the cell of honey and licked it, the sweetness touched Lux's taste buds. He almost cried, he hadn't tasted something so sweet and tasty in a while.

He had been tired of eating meat everyday for the past 4 weeks but now he could have some sweets!

"Mmmm" Lux moaned in happiness.

Then another smaller finger reached in the golden goo, Lux looked back to see Aria sucking her finger full of honey.

Lux frowned but didn't stop her.

Lux wanted to store some in a container of some sort but found that he didn't have one. He frowned but was still happy that he had found this place.

Lux climbed even deeper down into the chasm, after a couple minutes of climbing down Lux made it to the bottom. It was made completely of dark stone, almost resembling coal or black concrete. It was a weird shade of darkness compared to the golden yellow honey cells above it.

He walked along the black floor looking directly through the walls, there was a hidden passage leading to a big room which intrigued Lux.

For a regular person the wall looked just like a regular stone wall but the moment Lux touched it his hand phased through like water. He walked through and went into the hidden tunnel.

It looped around like a stairwell all the way up to the secret room. Lux passed through another hidden door and found himself in the brood nest. Tons of white little beans were held in a wall of comb just like the honey was being wrapped in a thin white covering.

"Woah" Lux stared in awe.

It was split into two sections, an egg keep and the nursery. Lux could see in the distance the nurse bees feeding the young bees.

Even though the place was cool, it wasn't what Lux was looking for. He was looking for the queen's keep, he saw two more rooms where the queen could possibly be kept in. One was not so big compared to the other but both were very small in contrast to the egg keep and the honey chasm which were humongous.

Lux didn't want to rush his little adventure and figured that he might as well kill some baby bees for a chance to get a rune, he didn't think that because the eggs were babies it would affect the power of the rune.

Thud!

Before Lux could even step forward a huge bee landed in front of him. It was much bigger and more aggressive than the other bees.

Swoosh!

It slashed its stinger ferociously at Lux, its speed was way faster than the regular drones. Fortunately Lux was aware of it and ducked quickly, if it had sneak attacked him it would have beheaded him. The thought reinforced the idea in his mind of always being careful.

Lux jumped back and summoned his two daggers while two more of the same bees landed next to the original bee.
