Chereads / How I Became A Gods Successor / Chapter 19 - Genesis

Chapter 19 - Genesis

Lux stood upon the door, looking upon all the guards. They stared at him, frozen in place.

"Well done, well done!" A person said, clapping.

"Are you that presence I felt from before, have you been here all this time?" Lux asked.

"Mmmm, don't think that you're anything special. I do this with all my disciples when they survive 3 weeks in this hell hole" A small child grinned as he elegantly flew down like an angel.

"So you the Monarch Of Play aren't you?" Lux said, sensing the terrifying power behind the small child's face.

"Ah, you're quick to notice my power. It seems you've become quite powerful since you were spawned here. Level 39? And already has a boss class weapon!? What a surprise!" The kid giggled.

"Yeah I got it from an old enemy of yours" Lux smiled.

Suddenly, a bright white flash blinded Lux. A long golden spear with glowing green engravings singed his neck, barely touching his throat.

"She was never even a pebble in my eyes. Do you think I destroyed her life thinking she was a threat to me? Don't make me laugh" The kid laughed.

"Then why did you?" Lux pushed the spear back while asking.

The kid retracted his spear and got closer to Lux. With slight hesitation, Lux stood there in calm.

"For the fun of it" The kid smiled.

Lux's eyes dilated, his body shook as his hair stood up in fear. Lux could feel the power those words meant, if this guy wasn't a god then he's just a monster… no he was a demon.

"So now that you understand where I'm coming from, then I should start with my introduction" The monarch cracked his knuckles and continued. "As you probably know, this world is called God's Mercy. You gain experience in multiple ways from eating monsters to slaying them. Some monsters are classified as bosses which means they are abnormally strong or have gained their first godly perk" He sighed.

Lux thought for a moment before realizing what that implicated. He was saying that monsters are also blessed with the player system?

"Yes, but only some. Mainly the intelligent ones, but their system is different from players like you. Anyways if you slay these superior beings, you gain a boss class weapon which is created by the system itself. But you cheated, you never killed a boss to gain that flintlock and created a contract with that bitch!" The monarch clenched his fist.

"Boss class weapons are immensely strong and make you almost invincible at first. The main things I need to explain to powerful players like you are the laws of this world and Skills + god perks. Monsters are all empty shells created by none other than me so you can't create allies with them, they are programmed to kill any newbie players. This world I call God's Mercy has been around for almost a billion years. Players here are granted a system that's a bit different from others but practically the same. The only thing that's always the same is eternal longevity" He paused for a second and continued.

Every year I bring fifteen players into this world but almost all of them are dead. Currently, only .01 percent of the total players I have brought into this world are dead".

"Around 1,500,000 are alive," The monarch said.

Lux furrowed his brow, that could be him that dies. Statistically, Lux has a bare to none chance of surviving in this world, to be honest, he was treating this world as a joke for entertainment without a true goal but now things have been flipped over his head. If he wants to continually live here and become god's successor then he must get even more powerful than ever before.

"There have been wars, there have been many battles, many deaths… you will experience all these grievances no matter what you do, I don't care if you hate me or adore me, we are all strangers here. Now, Skills and god perks!" He clapped his hands and began explaining.

"Skills are going to be practically the most important to your arsenal of weapons, even the most powerful boss class weapons don't compare with. Runes, fighting styles, normal skills, etcetera will all have a very strong impact on the way you survive in the hell of a world. I'm giving you this wake-up call for nothing, you'll need every single bit of luck and power if you want to even have a chance to live here. There's a reason only .01 percent of you survive".

Lux now realized this, most of the reason why he was alive was due to his crazy luck. At some point he won't have enough luck to survive a fight, he needs to be more careful.

"So now that you're in the right mindset, let's talk skills. Currently, you own one skill which is Swipe, and four runes with only one rune that hasn't been used which is oh…" The monarch was surprised.

"What?" Lux asked.

"Nothing, you will understand later once you learn the skill [Read]. That's the main quest part of your storyline, think of it as your predestined journey. It's complicated so I won't go too deep into it. But once you learn that skill you'll finally learn how to read runes and understand what power they possess".

"You already have a fighting style that you created, everything about you is very abnormal. Your luck is very high for you to have such good items and skills to your name. Bee lightning flight huh? Although it's not too great right now, it has the potential of becoming ranked 10,000. Keep training and you should meet those criteria. I don't have much to say, so do you have any questions??" He smirked.

Lux thought for a second and responded. "Why are you doing this?".

"Why else? For the amusement of course!" He laughed.

Lux stayed silent, he had now already learned everything he needed from this god.

"Well now that you've reached this stage of progression, I'll hand you this compass for your first main quest" The monarch passed a silver compass to Lux. It weirdly didn't have a pin to point towards something.

"How the hell is this useful, Where would it even point to?" Lux asked.

"It'll turn on soon enough. In all honesty, I don't know where it could point to, it's an independent functioning item so I wouldn't know" He shrugged.

"Mm, I see" Lux clenched on the compass.

"Welp, I'm expecting good results from you so you better not disappoint me" Before Lux could even react, the small child had disappeared out of sight in a cloud of blue and green flames.

Lux fell to his feet and tried to catch his breath. The sudden relief of pressure from the monarch's disappeared presence felt as if he had been holding ten-thousand boulders and they had all been removed in an instant. It was an indescribable feeling causing Lux's mental and physical attitude to change.

"This isn't no game, I've been so used to modern life that one day I'll die to my own carelessness" Lux clenched his chest.

"No more playing around anymore, I need to become even stronger and resilient".

Lux smiled, from that conversation he had with the monarch he had learned quite a few things about the definition of a god. A god isn't perfect, a god is an immensely strong being that has the power so immeasurable that there is no other title they can deserve better than being a god.

It seemed time had just started moving once again as the guards became animate, they all still stood in fear.

"Well, let me finish this place once and for all" Lux walked up to one of the guards, he was scared shitless.

Lux summoned his flintlock and blew the guard's head off.

"You devil!" One of the guards ran at Lux.

"Such a fitting name for a bastard like me" Lux dodged the guard's attack.

He had to be careful, most of the guards in the room wielded spears which meant they could strike him from a long distance not to mention them all ganging upon him. He needed to stun some for a while so that he could pick each one of them off more easily.

Although the ice touch was perfect for this job the only problem with it was that it had a very limited range.

"Mmmm...." Lux clenched his fist. "Wait, I got it!".

Lux ran at a guard, they raised their shield in defense. Lux froze the shield and easily broke through it with one of the guard's swords. The guard jumped back, letting go of his shield before breaking and whipping his spear at Lux's head. With extreme speed, Lux caught the spear with his hand and froze it, snapping its tip like a toothpick.

By now, all of the other guards were now rushing Lux. Lux grabbed the guards and threw the guard at the others. He quickly started reloading his flintlock. He didn't have enough time to reload it completely but he could slowly start reloading while the other guards recovered from the shock which only gave him a few seconds to.

A spear was flung at him, he barely dodged it and was wounded in the arm.

"Damn" Lux gritted his teeth.

He swung his hand against the side of the spear and froze it. He didn't have time to snap it so he decided to jump back and finish reloading his gun. The soldier charged at him with no hesitation making it harder for Lux to finish reloading his gun. He ran at the guard and slipped past the blade of the spear and threw his body at the guard, pushing him back.

He pulled back dodging another attack from the left. He ducked the second attack and tripped the guard. He jerked his elbow and slammed it into the guard's face, stunning him. After that, he finally finished reloading the flintlock. He didn't use it just yet and summoned his squid blade.

"Water slice!" Lux dug into the gut of the guard using the small gap between the shoulder piece and the chest piece. He used a water slice inside of his chest.

His chest exploded as blood flew in all directions. Lux's body felt heavy, he was getting tired. He jumped back and shot the mid pillar of the tower. He wanted to take over the whole tower but he was forced to take it all down, killing everyone in the process.

Bang!

The mid part of the pillar exploded within impact as the pillar folded in on itself like paper as the walls were crushed by the lack of support. Lux ran out of the building as the tower crumbled to the ground.

He climbed up onto the crumbled tower and sat down at the top. It was now sunset. He sat there pondering about what the god said. He pulled out the compass that he was given. It now had a pinpointing to something. The pin was a small blue flame. Lux sighed.

"Whew, I need a beer".
