Chapter 29 - The Back Up

"You are saying that you couldn't even catch a mere man?"

Jerome was infuriated upon getting the news that his men had missed Jeremy, but after hearing how he managed to trick them; the man bubbled up with ire!

He threw the tablet and smashed it in the wall, while it dissipated and its option in his system became disabled. Since he had to get an upgrade now to enable it again, the same thing happened with Jeremy.

After he had removed the chip from his body upon the guidance of Axela, the system embedded in his wrist was the only thing which could lead Jerome to track his whereabouts.

But after staying on Planet Nrutas Jeremy had successfully worked on that particular thing, he had managed to shut down the system although he couldn't find out how it was embedded in him.

Since there was no wiring or any chip which could justify the operating system on his wrist. Maybe it was how Jeremy was born, then what about all the other citizens?

Were they clones too? Does that make Jerome the only 'real and original' human being, since seemingly he was the only powerful person? Then who is the mastermind behind all this game?

"Get out now, you idiots!"

He shouted at the chief and his sidekick, who had been standing there receiving the scolding. Jerome was unable to concentrate on anything ever since Jeremy had gone rogue.

"You call yourselves soldiers, huh? You all are useless! Useless, even trash can be recycled, but you all are the worst!"

A beep on his wrist resonated and something from his wrist released, which travelled under the skin and spread in his blood.

All the men scattered away saving their breaths and the door closed, leaving Jerome alone in the huge cabin. The fluid in his veins had calmed him down by stimulating the nerves, and made his heartbeat regular.

"First he sneaked away and then cunningly entered the games. Fuck! I should have known and looked into the contestants thoroughly,"

Jerome slammed his fists on the table and sat down on his chair by holding his head in both hands.

"It was easy to find him till he was under my radar but what now!?"

His voice softened with the possibility of the worst in his imagination.

"What if somebody else found him? I mean there are other beings out there."

Perhaps he was aware that there's a whole new world outside the earth too. Do you think he knew about earth being at the verge of war with Martians?

"I have to find him at any cost, Jeremy is worth a thousand soldiers all alone."

Jerome had already estimated his abilities and strength level and knew that Jeremy was his biggest creation!

A superhuman who was a clone with a sharp mind!

But what more can happen when your own machine starts thinking?

Jerome had no clue how Jeremy swapped the appearance after the soldiers had filled him in about the sneaky trick.

"Something sure is wrong with him. I didn't fit any kind of feature in him which could do that, or even shift his appearance."

He shot up from the chair and walked towards the window, and looked in front of him.

"How did he manage to do that, when there is no feature which could initiate such advanced operations?"

The whole world had no idea how they all had been dancing upon his commands, everyone's reins were in his hands all alone through the radical change Jerome had brought.

It was the moment when a knock at the door snagged his attention and a man clad in white lab coat walked inside.

"We are ready to test the subject 45002, sir!"

The man informed Jerome with good news.

"Perfect! Let's go!"

Jerome rushed outside with him and they both headed towards the lab. They reached in a room having every kind of weird instrument and scientific knowledge existing on the earth.

"Check the vitals and prepare for the subject to wake up."

The chief doctor instructed one of his comrades who followed accordingly, and the huge pod filled with some green fluid sparked with some electricity.

A loud shrieking echoed in the lab while Jerome stood in front of the pod merciless, seeing the  subject wincing in excruciating pain. Jerome had been experimenting with 'missing' citizens, trying to make another superhuman since the rest 45000 subjects had failed!

He tried various variations from using an infant to making an embryo artificially, from cloning to using a half human but the results were not fruitful.

Only Jeremy somehow survived and upon the same process and design, Jerome wished to create the subject 45002 which seemed to be a failure too.

"Chief! His brain vitals and blood pressure is rising abnormally. He is not going to-"

Before the worker could complete his statement the subject's head exploded and the blood tainted the glass.

Jerome shook his head trying to figure out what went wrong since the pattern of the experiment was the same as Jeremy. Unbeknownst to him that doctor Severus had inserted Axela in his brain, who saved Jeremy Grayson during the procedure.

"Look into the procedure again and make it perfect. Or else you guys are not going to see tomorrow's sun!"

Jerome gave his warning which they all knew was true and then he left the lab.

On the other hand doctor Severus was occupied with arranging a meet up with the Martian king. So, he could pay a visit to his own son who had been accidentally or maybe coincidentally replaced with the crowned prince!
