Lillian was used to looking at a room and seeing all the angles, but she had never seen a room like this before. The hallway outside was long and straight but this room was round and wide. The walls were painted a light blue colour and dim lights hung from the ceiling.
It felt almost like a cave, except for a tall, slim window through which a narrow beam of sunlight poured into the room. In the middle of the room was a white table which had laptops on it and there were couches arranged around a glass centre table off to the left. There was a huge flat screen TV on the wall in front of the couches and a rectangular dining table which was made with glass and had a couple of comfortable looking stylish chairs in another part of the room.
Everything in the room was elegant, sleek and modern. This wasn't the first time they had set up for an operation in a place that looked like this but Lillian couldn't stop herself from looking around the room in awe because this was their last operation. By 'their', she meant she and the rest of the team that have been her family for two years now.
They were a heist team and the name of their team was Trojan. Gerald was the one who picked the name and he had picked Trojan because he loved the story behind the Trojan horse. In a way, their team was a Trojan horse. One of them gets close to an influential person attending a party at a place they want to pull a heist in and the person gets them an invitation to the party. They gain access to the object (diamonds, gold or any other really valuable thing) and steal it successfully. They have never failed a heist and they were the third best heist team in the world. Gerald wanted them to be number one but that wasn't going to happen now because they were retiring.
The team had seven members; Gerald Holloway who was the mastermind - responsible for coordinating the team's efforts and keeping track of time. Rodney Rodgers who was the hacker - specializes in breaching all things electronical. Perry Powers who was the brute - specializes in smacking people over the head, tying people up, knocking down doors… In other words, most things which require the violent use of strength. Whitney Baker who was the smooth operator - specializes in talking her way through human obstacles and is quick to think on her feet. Olivia Henderson who was the safe cracker - responsible for drilling through vault doors and cracking open a safe. Zander Dunhall who was the getaway driver. And finally, Lillian Sterling who was the cat burglar - specializes in breaking and entering, sneaking past motion detectors undetected.
Those weren't actually their real names, it was the names of famous celebrities. They had taken it as their aliases on the team and none of them knew each other's real name. It was safer that way.
After today, they would all go their separate ways. They could still pull heists if they wanted to but it just wouldn't be each other. Lillian wouldn't see them again… well all except one.
"Wow," Gerald announced as he came to a stop next to her and grabbed her hand, intertwining their fingers. She turned her head to face him with a grin on her face and he winked at her, dropping the backpack in his hand to the ground.
Gerald was Lillian's boyfriend and even though they were practically in love with each other, they didn't know each other's real name. Lillian didn't mind that though. She had been Lillian for two years and after the heist team splits, she was going to keep the name. She was used to it. She liked it. Her real name was Rose but that was too boring, too plain.
The celebrity she named herself after was a strong woman that always fought for the rights of other people. She donated to charities and always helped people in need. She was a no-nonsense person and didn't take shit from anybody. Her music and the movies she starred in were also great so what's not to be loved about her.
"Can't believe this is our last heist?" Gerald stated and took in a deep breath while Lillian glanced at her team members who were also in the room. She also couldn't believe that this was their last heist, she had known that this day would come eventually and she had tried to prepare herself for it but she was so not prepared. She wished she could go back in time or postpone this last heist but she couldn't do that. The reason she wanted to do that was because she didn't want today to be the last day she would be spending with the rest of team except Gerald. She was going to miss them dearly and she was fairly certain that she would cry while they were saying their goodbyes.
The members of their team could still see each other or keep in contact with each other after they pull their last heist tonight but they chose not to for the same reason they didn't know their team members names. It was safer that way. If one of them got caught by any of the dangerous people they had stolen from in the past, they wouldn't be able to give information about the rest of the team because they didn't know anything about them… well they knew each other's favorite food, drink and song but none of them could be found through that kind of information.
Lillian and Gerald were the only ones that would stay together after today.
"Sweet set up," Rodney stated as he sat at the white table which had laptops on it and opened one of the devices while Whitney took the seat next to him, nodding in agreement to his statement.
