Speaking of the client, they had never met him or her before or even spoken to them over the phone. The person wanted to remain anonymous and they were fine with that but most of them still had a lingering curiosity.
"Baxter," Gerald repeated and Perry snorted on the couch while Rodney and Whitney talked about the different places on the blueprint of the Mortenson Manor, choosing to behave like Baxter wasn't there.
"Consider yourselves lucky... not many people get this opportunity," Baxter announced and Lillian scrunched up her face.
No one responded. The only motion in the room was the dust that danced in the narrow beam of falling light.
Baxter looked surprised that they didn't reply him and he stared at Gerald for a little while longer. He cleared his throat when everyone remained silent while just staring at him.
"Do you have anything else to say?" Perry finally broke the silence and Olivia's mouth set in a hard line in an effort to keep her from laughing. "I mean it would be highly ridiculous if you just came here to say that…" he trailed off as he glanced at his team members. "I mean, isn't that right guys?" he asked and everyone except Baxter nodded.
"Yes, yes, completely right," Zander replied as he drank from his can of soda just as Gerald said, "So right."
"I don't think you've ever been wrong," Olivia added.
The corner of Baxter's mouth twitched and he gestured at the door. "Your suits and dresses for the party have arrived and are waiting in the hallway outside your rooms. It's nine am right now and the party starts by eight pm so the cars will be here by seven forty-five pm. You guys should be back by eleven pm. Payment will be made when the object has been received."
Gerald nodded as he stared at the man."Anything else?" he asked and Baxter removed his hands from his pocket before adjusting the lapels of his jacket.
"I'll be back to see you guys before you leave for the party. In the meantime… dodo whatever you want to do. Brunch will be brought over by twelve pm and lunch will be here by one thirty pm. Good day."
He turned around and headed out of the room, slamming the door shut behind himself.
Everyone in the room went back to what they had been doing like the man hadn't been here while Olivia snorted.
She turned to face Lillian."Let's go check our dresses and try them on. I need to see if it's the same thing and the same size that I ordered," she said as she got to her feet and stretched her hand out to Lillian.
Lillian grabbed Gerald's back pack because she wanted to see the ring, as she took Olivia's outstretched hand before Olivia pulled her too her feet." We ordered the dresses a week ago. I doubt there's anything we can do about it if it's not the same thing and same size we ordered."
"Well then I'll take a scissors to it or I show up at the Mortenson Manor in a sundress," Olivia replied as she began to head towards the door and Lillian cackled as she pictured Olivia cutting up the dress and wearing whatever disaster it would end up as to the party.
"They would so not let you into the building," she told her just as they walked past the table Whitney, Rodney and Gerald were at and Olivia called out, "Whitney, let's go try out the dresses."
Whitney perked up and nodded as she got up from her seat, patting Rodney's shoulder as she walked away from the table.
Gerald's eyes went to his back pack which was in Lillian's hand and his eyes darted to hers just as she blew him a kiss. She kept the excitement of finding the ring off her face and he smiled at her before stretching his hand out, gesturing for her to hand his bag over.
Lillian's shoulders almost sagged and she tried not to pout as she stretched his bag out to him and he collected it with a wink.
"You guys don't want me to check dresses with you," Perry and Zander called out and Olivia flipped them the bird over her shoulders.
The three of them made their way out of the room and to the place they'd been shown earlier that their bedrooms were. There were two clothes racks in the hallway just like Baxter had said and dress bags were hanging from them while boxes of shoes and jewelry were on the floor.
"This rack is ours," Whitney said as she held up the tag on a dress bag to show them that her name was written on it. "I'll take it to Olivia's room," she added as she began to wheel the rack towards the room that was closest to them while Lillian picked up their shoe boxes and Olivia picked up the jewelry boxes.
Olivia's room was huge and it looked exactly like the other bedrooms. Huge bed with covers and pillows that looked extremely comfortable, walk in closet, golden chandelier, vanity, an expensive woolen rug, and a couple of other rich people stuff.
"It's almost like they copy-pasted the rooms," Whitney said as she took her dress bag off the rack and opened the zipper as Lillian and Olivia dropped the boxes they were holding to the ground.
"What? They aren't the shoes you ordered?" Lillian asked after Olivia opened the shoe box that had her name in it and just stared at the heels inside it.
"No, they are actually. They just look even better in person," she replied as she took the heels out of the box and held them up while Whitney removed her dress from the bag. "The client was so generous to have us place all these on his card," Olivia said with a grin because the shoes, dresses and jewelry were so freaking expensive and she started to put them on.
