Time: 05:30, Location: Under the covers! It's a beautiful Saturday morning in Thoyandou, the big fiery sun had already risen and is already shining its bright warm rays on all the homes in the small town. As i hesitantly get out of bed and swing my curtains wide open i become blinded by the bright sun. The warm crisp air is filled with joy and excitement for today was the beginning of a new era in our little town. Today was the day Khosi khulu Rambau lll ( King Rambau lll) was to be inaugurated and would ascend the throne as our new leader. Since his father passed away ten months ago the village has been without a leader and trouble always seemed to ensue. Pardon my rudeness, my name is Ronewa meaning ' we have been given'. My mother gave me this name but it's a pity I've been robbed the privilege of knowing her, she passed away shortly after i was born in September 2004. I grew up just like any other peasant girl in Limpopo. I was raised by my father Vho Mashudu Luvhengo and his wife Sarah. I have a step sister Shonisani and although we aren't we aren't blood sisters i enjoy her company and I'm very fond of her. Every morning i would go to my mother's grave and hold my morning devotion there because that's where i felt closer to her and God, this morning was no different. I returned from the graveyard and began to boil water so we could get ready to celebrate our new leader at the royal palace. My step mother, sister and I dressed in our best minwenda( traditional Venda women attire) and my Father looked dapper in a traditional printed shirt and matching long khaki trousers. We then made our way to the royal palace.
