Chapter 25
Red Adamson ~
"I'll pick you up at your house by 6PM sharp for the festivities." Those were the last I heard of Gar before he hopped into his dirt bike he had rested by the side of a rail and drove off.
I took another thirty minutes trying to whip up something nice for Halloween. At least now I know how song writers feel. The job is nowhere close to being easy. On a good day, writing songs is kind of what I do even if I do the singing in my head but now, it just feels like I'm dry out of words to sing.
'Charlie!!!' Charlie is going to be taking the role of one of the backup guitarists. Maybe he can give me a clue or some notes on something to kick start my inner writer. I picked up my shoulder bag and stood up ready to leave where I was and head to Charlie's right down the block when I noticed through the windscreen of a parked car that both of my eyes had suddenly turned green glowing brightly.
Quickly, I dipped my hand into my shoulder bag and erupted my pocket-sized mirror to confirm what I had just seen. There was no way that what I saw was the truth but it seemed too real to be just my imagination. I looked into the mirror and low and behold, it was normal.
My eyes were normal in shade.
They were the same color they have always been for the past sixteen years – BLACK. I waved off the feeling finally with the thought that it must probably be the fact that I've stayed under the blazing sun for too long or the fact that I have had one too many Popsicles with Gar that makes me think that I saw them different.
I halted a taxi and directed the driver to my destination. In an instant, we were there – THE KRESS' RESIDENCE. I got down from the taxi, paid off the driver and made way for the front porch.
"Dinnggg!!! Dongg!!!" went the doorbell when I pushed the labeled push button.
"Coming!!!" came a feeble voice from the inside of the house. "Oh, hey Red!!" said Allison, Charlie's nine year old sister waving as she stood beside the door that just had a bit open.
"Hi there Ally!" I replied returning the wave. "Is Charlie home?" I asked reducing my height by bending down so I could be of somewhat equal level with her.
"Yup!" she answered sharply nodding her head in confirmation.
The young girl's name is Alisson but everyone around just calls her 'Ally' for short.
"C-ch…" Ally was about yelling Charlie's name when Addison used his palm to seal her mouth. "Don't shout! You'll scare all the nice looking birds at the window frame away."
"Hey." I said to Addison with a friendly smile.
"Hey Red. Here to see Charlie? He's upstairs. Wait, I'll go get him." Addison said before taking off.
"Aren't you going to???"
"Oh yeah! Silly me." Ally said giving a rather heavy conk on her forehead. "Come right him." She said opening the door wide for me to walk in. "You can sit over there."
"I'm guessing your mom and dad aren't at home, right?" I said taking a seat in one of the humungous living room couches.
"Yup!" Ally said running her small sized fingers all over my hair.
"Red?!? You should have told me that you wanted to come over." Charlie said as he came down the stairs.
"Believe me, next time I would." I said turning to meet his eyes.
"Hope the twins didn't cause you any trouble? My mom and dad are out and they have me babysitting them both." "Not until Addison came upstairs to bring me out of my guitar practice did I know that someone was at the door." Charlie added holding Addison by the shoulders as he stood.
"It's alright but in case of a next time, don't let the twins get the door when the bell goes. It is pretty unsafe for a ten year old to be the one opening doors for visitors especially when they have an elder brother to do that." I said trying to release my hair from the grip of Ally.
"I don't! Someone obviously couldn't bear to heed a simple instruction." I heard Charlie say giving strict eyes at Ally.
"Speaking of guitar practice, I kind of need your help." I said getting up from the couch.
"Wait! Don't tell me that you haven't gotten a single song in mind for the celebration tonight." Charlie said with a puckered brow and folded arms.
"I haven't. I need to bring up the perfect Halloween songs for tonight's dance and I have no idea whatsoever on how I am going to write those under six hours if I allow myself to remain dry on ideas." I replied.
"Have you at least tried? You are the female lead of the song so it's either you find a song that you could do as a solo or duet or better off, make it a duet that Ryan would be in charge of the songs." "Luckily for you, you have come to the right guitarist." Charlie said with a smirk on his face. "But first," Charlie went to put the lock pin on the door to prevent what happened with Red and Allison from repeating itself. "Just to make sure I keep both of you where I can see you."
"But mom said that you would take us to get cool costumes for Halloween!!!" squealed Ally pulling off a tantrum.
"What if I say I'll give you some very cool toys to play with now and we can go get the costumes later?" Charlie said in a very tempting voice.
"Deal!!!" cheered Ally and Addison in unison.
I followed Charlie upstairs to his room and after giving Ally and Addison the toys that he had promised them, we began the search or rather, the writing of the song for the dance. Minutes flew by and still, we hadn't even come up with a single song. The whole thing was beginning to get me bored and tired.
"I've got it!"
"What have you got??"
"Picture this setting: It's Halloween so picture a love story between a vampyre and a witch." I said placing my pen on a halt.
"Go on,"
"They are of different creatures so their love was forbidden. They loved each other but they had to fight their own kind in order to attain the joy of being in each other's arms because both creatures were at war with each other."
"I like where this is going." Charlie said with a pair of keen eyes on me.
"At the end of the day, their love prevails and they finally live their happily ever after." "What do you think? Can we make that idea into a song?" I said with my hands fixed beneath my chin.
"Let's find out! You have the voice and I have the strings so all we need now are the lyrics and the tune is sure to follow." Charlie said before setting his amplifier and begun striking the strings of his electric guitar.
"She finds it hard to trust someone…."
