Chapter 24
Red Adamson ~
"Buzz!!! Buzzz!!! Buzzz!!!" It was the dawn of another beautiful day for me.
Somehow, I feel that something about this day is going to be special for me besides the fact that I am leaving to do some series of songs with Ryan McFlames. I got up from the bed and put the alarm tune to a stop. After a long time of helping my mom out at the café yesterday, my energy felt drained so bad that I needed a lot of sleep to replenish myself. Right now, I had all that was needed to enjoy this day.
All except the perfect song to sing and the perfect witchey costume to put on for the festivities of course.
I got into the shower and cleaned myself up after which I prepared myself for the day.
"Ring!!!" went my phone from the other side of the bed.
It was Gar.
"If you're already up, meet me right now. Right by the newly designed supermarket down the road." read the text.
"Why??" I texted back seated on a bean bag.
"Must you be a total nerd right now? Just come!" he texted back.
Having a hunch that maybe, Gar's request might be of vital importance or urgency, I replied him with a thumbs up emoji. I got down to my mom's room and found her still sound asleep. I stealthily passed by to avoid disturbing her sleep and made for the front door. It was Saturday and so, my mom's café wouldn't go open until the later hours of the day.
Following the series of lifting and motion carried out yesterday in the café and considering her past week, I resolved to let her have as much rest as possible.
"Out with Gar. Be back before 4PM." Read the note that I placed on the marble table in the living room.
By the clock, it was barely half past eight O'clock. Halting a taxi by the corner side of the roadway, I made way for the newly designed supermarket down the street where Gar requested that I meet him at. In no time, I got there.
"There you are?" called Gar a few paces from where I stood. "Hurry! There aren't so many left for sale!" he added pulling me into the supermarket.
"Can you at least tell me where you're taking me to?" I asked Gar in the midst of his quickened steps.
"It's a surprise. Not for you anyways." I heard Gar say still in accelerating steps.
"These guys must be huge fans of Halloween." I said noticing the lots and lots of Halloween designs and labels.
"I know right? Just wait until you see their costume section." "So far, I don't think any other store out there can compete with what these guys got for the holiday."
Gar pulled me a long way until he finally made a stop right at a section that was tagged 'COSTUMES'. Taking a look at what the section holds, I can't help but appreciate the fact that Gar brought me here because the costumes on display were breathtaking to look out.
They seemed out of this world.
"Looks just like the real deal right?" the section keeper asked us with a convincing smile.
"Hell yeah!" I said. "I think I have found the perfect costume for a witchey Halloween. How about you?"
"Wait, you are going for the witch costume? That sounds so lame. I'm going all lycan for the Halloween costume contest tonight." Gar said with preying eyes fixed on the lycan costume.
"So what is it going to be? A lycan costume for you and a wonderful witch costume for the lady?" asked the section keeper.
"Absolutely!" I said.
"That will be $599.99, for the both of them." the section keeper said equating both our prices as one with an adding machine.
Gar paid for both of the 'stumes and after wandering around the supermarket for any other deal for the holiday, for a while, we both left with bright faces.
"Witch costume, check!" I said proudly erasing the amazing witch costume off my day's to do list.
"This is going to be one thrilling Halloween." Gar said before stuffing a Popsicle inside his mouth as he glared at the sides of the street from the corner bench where we both sat. "Everyone seems really into it this year." he added.
"I guess so!"
"Speaking of which, have you figured out what songs you are going to do with Ryan? He's going to be in town any time from the sunny hours so you'll have to…."
"I know!" I said cutting Gar shot of his words.
"I'm still thinking about it alright?!? Besides, I deserve as much time as I need to figure it out because you and Charlie totally pushed me into doing this in the first place."
"Excuse me but weren't you the person that gave 'her' consent in the decision to do it?" "All I'm saying is that you should try whipping up something or better still, you could just leave the song selection to him and his band you know'." Gar said with a teasing poke on my arm. "After all, he is the professional singer here." he added.
"Songs just don't come out of the lips you know?" I said returning the poke in a less friendly manner.
"Of course they do. All you have to do is open your mouth and let large words and musical notes fly out. Sounds easy if you ask me but too bad I'm not the 'music' or the 'singing' type unlike someone." I heard Gar say taking another lick on his Popsicle.
"Let's see." I said taking a look at the time through my phone. "By the looks of the clock, I still have a minimum of six to seven hours till the Halloween festivities begin at school. Six whole hours to whip up the best Halloween songs known to man." I said with a sense of sarcasm.
"Well, good luck with that. I promised Miles and the rest of the gang that I would show up for some fun at the basketball court at school right about now so…. See ya." Gar said getting up from the corner bench walking slowly and backwardly away.
"Really??" "What about Halloween?"
