"I just feel jaded, you know?" Toby says to me as we walk to the parking lot, "we all feel that way sometimes" I say, pretending I've been paying attention to what he's been saying. My mind has been fixated over that little argument we had in first period, the one I had with Jeremy, it's been on my mind the whole school day, well that and DeAndre.
"Dom, are you even paying attention to what I'm saying?" Toby says, breaking my line of thought, needless to say, I haven't been paying attention. "No, sorry my mind's all over the place right now, what were you talking about?"
He takes a deep breath, almost as if to say 'you're glad I'm not killing you', he takes a slight pause before looking at me and saying, "you're cold, let's get you home," he opens the car door for me, "Hop in" which I do, well I don't really 'hop' in, but I'm inside the car, that's what counts, right? Not long after, he gets in too, Tony follows, getting into the backseat, he looks irritated.
I don't pay attention for the rest of the ride home, but Toby and Tony do have a short conversation, which I'm too zoned out to pick up, when we do pull up to my block, Toby stops the car and gives me a half hug goodbye. Tony gets out of the backseat, opens the door for me and leads me upstairs to my apartment, when I look back down, Toby's gone. Something was off about these two all day, and no, I don't think they're fighting again, I just feel that something's off.
Normally, Tony would open the door for me and leave me there, but today, he walks me in, even walking up to my room with me. Thank goodness no one else is here because I'd hate for them to see the agitated Tony, which is basically Tony every other day. He closes the door to my room, quickly turns to me and finally asks, "why didn't you tell me that you passed out in McDonald's a few weeks ago? What even happened? And don't try lying, DeAndre told me you refused to see a doctor."
