"hey Dom, why don't you join us outside" Toby shouts over the loud music, red cup in hand. "Yeah, yeah sure." I shout back, not even sure he'll hear me. He pulls me by my hand behind him through a crowd of people, wet condoms on the floor, which is sticky from all the alchohol spilt on it. I don't know all these people. I don't know the girl with bright pink hair and skimpy white shorts that's sitting on the couch, I don't know the boy she's kissing, who's sitting next to her, her left leg placed aggressively on him, I feel like I'm invading their privacy. I don't know the girl Jeremy's kissing, the one who's sitting on the kitchen counter, legs open just enough for his body to fit, I guess the reason I don't know her is there's a different girl in her place every other weekend. 'Get it I guess' I think to myself as I walk past Jeremy and the blonde haired girl on the counter.
I don't know any of the people here, so how could this possibly be my birthday party? To Toby it's probably just another lame excuse to throw a party.
"What time did Andre say he'd be here?" Toby says in a normal tone once we're outside. I nervously check my phone, even though I know DeAndre is two hours late. "uhm I don't know, he'll show" I nervously say, hoping I'm right and he'll actually show up.
"Happy birthday baby" Delilah says, and it's just now that I realize there are a few familiar faces at this party after all. After receiving some birthday wishes and greeting Heather, Delilah, Tokyo and Adelaide, we go inside and party for a while, but the thought of whether or not Andre will show up doesn't leave my mind.
"Hey uhm, we have to clean up, Toby's grandma won't appreciate us leaving this place like this" Tony says, gently, so not as to disturb my peace. The party has died down, almost everyone has left, and it's then that it sinks in, he's not coming.
