Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

After I've picked out a warm sweater and sweatpants, I look back at Tony and say "Yeah, we can leave now" He nods, and we head down to the sitting room where sure enough, Faye and Devante are watching the powerpuff girls, the funeral things in life.

"I'm headed to McDonald's, I'll be back in an hour, try not to miss me too much" i say, the last part was moe sarcastic, I hope she picks up on that. "Uhm...yeah sure" Faye replies, barely paying attention to what I said. That's a little concerning, but for now I won't pay it any mind. After Tony and I have said our goodbyes we head out.

It's a rather quiet walk, I mean there's no conversation between Tony and I, as for New York, she's a busy city, as always. It's sort of weird explaining the concept of 'the hood' to someone who doesn't live here, because while it's a little dangerous, it's also home.

It doesn't take long before we walk up to the McDonald's building, and DeAndre is standing right at the door in a puffy bright green jacket, a color which I didn't think would look so good on him.

"Hey" Tony says when we finally walk up to DeAndre, a leas than sincere greeting, but DeAndre nods his head to be polite, they share light small talk, which I'm not paying attention to because of that bright green jacket he has on.

"Can I please talk to her alone." DeAndre asks Tony after they've finished with the pleasantries, Tony nods and walks into the restaurant, leaving us alone in the cold.

"You should stop hanging out with that guy" He says, playing with the strings on my black sweater. "Is that what you called me here for?" I keep a straight face while saying that, I don't think he has the right to be telling me who I should and shouldn't hang out with. "I'm just saying Tony has a crush on you, that's all" he responds, rather defensively. "Oh really? Did he tell you that?"

He internally panics a little then says "listen let's just talk about what I really wanted to say" I nod, a gesture meant to ask him to go on, he takes the hint. "well, my cousin's getting married and I was wondering if you'd be my date to her wedding" my face softens up from the tight lipped frown I had on previously, he's so sweet sometimes. "Of course I'll go with you, but if anyone asks at the wedding, what are we?"

He freezes up for a second, "what do you mean?"

I knew he'd react this way, that's why I never asked him this before, but I have to stand my ground. "we've been hanging out for a few weeks now, I introduced you to some of my closest friends, I've met some of your friends, we had that valentine's day date, I mean what are we? What are we doing? Are we hanging out platonically or romantically?" There it is, I let it all out, how he takes it is none of my business, I finally got to ask the question I've wanted to ask for a while.

"We're just hanging out, why do we have to complicate things?" He answers.

Have you ever felt your heart shatter? Have you ever heard your heart rate drop? Have you ever heard a ringing in your ears? Well that's what I feel right now, and instead of standing here and arguing with him, I'll choose not to be the imbecile, I'll just call Tony and walk back home.

I look down at my phone for the time, so it doesn't look like I just wanna get away from him, which I do. "Would you look at that, it's getting late, i have to go" i say

"Well let me walk you home" he offers, but I shake my head no, text Tony that I'm leaving, and start walking back home. What a naive teenager I am for ever even thinking he saw me that way.
