I walk quietly down the steps, well, more slowly than quietly. I hope that somehow I can avoid Toby, but I'm wrong, I'm proven wrong when I see his face at the end of the staircase, standing right there.
"Lime looks good on you" I say, a sad attempt at breaking the ice, Toby being Toby, doesn't budge, instead he leads me to the door and says "you can go right in, just, my heater is broken and it's quite cold so make sure you're warm" it's almost cute that he cares, almost. Let's not forget that he did start a full blown fight with Tony over heaven knows what. "Yeah, I'm warm, don't sweat it" I point at my brown thickly knit sweater, which makes it pretty obvious that I'm just about as snug as a bug in a rug, hey, look at me using kid's books references.
"Dom, I'm sorry, and I apologized to Tony too but he wanted you to forgive me first, I lost it, and that day in McDonald's, you passed out and I was so worried that I never got to tell you what I wanted to say, and now you're with DeAndre so I might never-" I cut him off because he finishes, afraid of what he might say, "it's ok, Toby, we're cool, and don't worry about that little accident, I was just a little out of it, that's all."
He taps his hands on the steering wheel a few times before starting the car and heading to school, "that seemed like a lot more than 'out of it' Dom are you doing molly?" he asks, that question offends me, mostly because why would he ever think I'd do molly, but also because I'd be cook with it being molly, but it's a little worse than that if you ask me. "No, Toby im not doing molly, I've just been putting too much pressure on myself and I just gave into the exhaustion that one time. It's not that deep" he nods his head after hearing this. Does he believe my half truth? I don't know, frankly I wouldn't care enough to ask, so we're silent for the rest of the ride, but it's a nice, calm silence, I'm so glad to be back in a good place with Toby.
