Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

My alarm woke me up this morning, well not so much woke me up, I was tossing and turning all night. Toby sent me a text, after I got back from my date with DeAndre, it said he'd be back at school today, which I don't know how to feel about.

Well one thing's for sure, I know how Tony will take it, and I'm scared, sort of.

I stay in bed for a few minutes, closely listening to the raindrops fall and nature revolve around the rain, it's poetic, how nature has a balance, how it works, and then the rain comes and nature just rearranges herself, she fits the needs of rain, is that what DeAndre is doing to me? Is that why I feel the need to be around him all the time? He makes me tired and happy at the same time, a trait which would normally be a red flag, but this isn't the movies, not everyone gets a fairytale ending, we get what we can and do the most with it I guess.

Soon enough though, I get up and get dressed, deciding to go for the brown sweater in the corner of my closet I've been dreading, pairing it with a black pair of jeans and a pair of Adidas sneakers, a classic rainy day outfit.

My sister has already left by the time I step out of my room, which is good because I'd hate to explain why I got home so late last night, Devante is in the kitchen though, mainly because he doesn't have school, unlike the rest of us.

"goodmorning Dom" he says from behind me, he doesn't turn to look at me, instead he keeps his head focused on the way the rain trickles down the glass window, it looks like he's deep in thought, which I'd say is weird for someone his age. "Hey, Dev, how are you?" I say back, grabbing the oat milk from the fridge, "why do you always cuff your pants like that?" he asks, switching his attention from the window to my pants, I question I dread, honestly, "well, because I listen to sweater weather baby" I respond, giving him a half hearted answer, he doesn't respond, and like the Dev I know, he turns his attention to the window again.

"Liz from next door said you can play with her son and their babysitter, so I'll drop you off there when I'm going to school ok?" I pour my cornflakes into the warm oat milk in my bowl, laughing at the idea of people pouring cereal in first. I don't mean to get political here but milk goes in first, everyone knows that.

"Ok. Toby was here" he says in response, rather calmly too, "what do you mean Toby was here? When??" I say, with a mouth full of cereal, something I'd normally never do, but honestly, who cares anymore at this point. "Well, before you came down here, he was at the door and said I should tell you he'll wait for you"

I rush to finish the rest of my cereal then pack my bag, making sure to remember to drop Devante off before leaving, and here we go, the car ride to school I'm dreading, here goes an awkward conversation with Toby again.
