3 AM
A faint rustling could be heard.

4 AM
A loud crash woke me from my well-deserved slumber. I looked at the clock on my desk, it read 4 AM. Heavy footsteps followed the crash. Panicking sunk in and awoke me from my drowsiness. I quickly grabbed my phone and slipped out of bed towards my door.
I cracked my door open a bit. I narrowed my eyes to my environment. I didn't see anything but I tuned my ears in.
Heavy footsteps, specifically from the bathroom. But then new noises started. Whoever it is, was looking for something.
If they're looking for something this would be my best chance to escape. I slipped through my door slyly and shuffled towards my apartment door. My socks slid across the wood flooring. I slipped on my shoes and quietly unlocked the door. I took a deep breath.
I opened the door and ran like there was no tomorrow. My shoes collided with the hollow metal stairs. It created a loud noise. Loud enough to attract the person's attention to me, I started hearing the footsteps follow me.
Then I realized, those footsteps sounded like the same ones from earlier! I was so stupid! I should've gone to the police instead of going home. This psycho followed me when I thought they left! I mentally slapped my face. The most logical thing to do in this situation was to call the police. I quickly dialed the number, picking up my pace to create a wider distance.

I police were on their way. My pace slowed and my breathing became heavy. I wanted to run to somewhere public but it was barely morning. The residents wouldn't give a shit either. I kept running, hopeful that the person was going to get tired and give up. But through a bit of observation, hope was going to get me nowhere. Whoever this person was must run a lot. No sounds came from them. No struggling. No heavy breaths. It seems like they were going the same paces as they've been for the pass few minutes.
I felt myself get more exhausted by the second. But by some miracle, I hear the annoying and terrifying loud sirens in the distance. I felt myself become relieved. I kept running, I knew my goal was in sight, I couldn't let my body give out now! I felt the adrenaline fill my veins. This mother fucker will not catch me! And I was right, by the time my determination came to a climax, the footsteps behind me stopped.
What were they doing? Should I slow down and check? Wait but what if it's a trick, the moment I slow down will be the opportunity to speed up and get me. My mind filled with the what if's of my situation. I ran some more, creating a large enough distance. I heard the sirens grow a bit louder. But that's when I heard the footsteps again. But they were moving away from me.
My curiosity got the better of me. I took a deep breath and slowed down. I turned my head. They were running away. They knew the police would catch them if they stayed. I became frustrated. Why murder someone, why come all this way?
"You bastard!" I screamed.
"The police will surround you no matter what!" I shouted once more. I don't know if it's true. But that raised their interest, and they came to a halt. I walked a bit towards them. Stopping at a reasonable distance. I observed the figure. I noticed they had a more masculine build. Jet black hairs sticking out from the hood, falling to cover a portion of their face. A black mask covering the rest.
The sirens grew louder. The loud and obnoxious sound snapped us both into a reality. They sprinted as quickly as a rabbit and disappeared. I was left to catch my breath. Cold sweat poured from my face. My body temperature is as hot as an oven. And my mind scattered like pieces of shattered glass.
And before I knew it, the police arrived.

The police escorted me back to my apartment in their car. From there they blocked off my bathroom with yellow tape. They locked the door to the bathroom. They checked around for any other breaches, fortunately for me, there were no others. I was notified my apartment would be checked thoroughly later while I was questioned.
They left me in my apartment alone. It was cold and eerie. I felt unsafe. Unsecured. I disliked the feeling but I knew they wouldn't come back today at the very least. But it was reassuring that there were police around the area.
I went back to my room. I locked the door. And put my chair under its handle. It seemed paranoia was settling in now. I took a deep breath and shimmied my way into my bed. My sheets were now cold since they were unattended for so long. I felt gross and sticky from running, and I couldn't take a shower since my bathroom became an off-limits crime scene. I let out a tch before turning over facing my covered windows. Soft light is shown through a small part of the curtain. The sun was starting to rise. I looked at my clock. It was about 6:30 am. I have to wake up at 7:30 and reach school by 8. I let out a loud yawn rolling over once again. I was tired and hungry, and I hated it. I couldn't do anything more than try to get sleep. I have a current total of 4-5 hours of sleep so far.
The real question settled in. How am I going to take a shower? I internally panicked, even though there was no one around me. I hope. I tired myself out from just thinking silly things. The silly things made this horrible experience made it not seem so serious. And I think I enjoyed it. Before I knew it I was fast asleep. Hopefully not getting another uninvited guest this morning.
