Chapter 19 - Surprises

Licht and Viscar both walk up to the stone platform. Licht raises his wooden sword and readies himself, but Viscar gives a quiet titter to this action.

"Look kid, we aren't using those toys," Viscar calls out with his deep voice. "We'll be using real weapons for this examination. Anything goes as long as the other party isn't killed." He completes.

Licht gives an annoyed groan, he turned to his father but paused when he saw the sparkle in his father's eyes. He trusted his luck to give him a weapon suited to the situation, but he didn't need some stranger questioning his choices or his abilities.

"Fine." As Licht replies, an unknown man walks forward and gives Viscar a small object. A silver ring. With a bow, the man leaves the platform and Viscar fits the ring on his left middle finger.

"Okay! Let's get started!" He bellows as a miniature magic circle glows from just above the ring, and the sound of stone cracking. Licht keeps in a snort as he sees the large man's weapon, it was probably twice the size of Licht.

The weapon Viscar held was a large double-edged axe, with both sides obviously polished. It had a color scheme of red and silver, redder at the blade than the handle. And the intricate designs were definitely eye-catching, but Licht had no time to pay attention to that.

Viscar gave a wide smirk as he displayed his pride, though Licht rolled his eyes unimpressed. 'Just a while ago he called me a kid,' Licht thought.

He ran the system and slowly his weapon took shape in his hand. A shortsword, like his other weapons, had the color scheme of black and a faint and dark blue. It shone in the light, a discreet blue and the handle covered and weaved with soft cloth making gripping easy and comfortable. Simple, just how he liked it.

"Ooh! ~ Looks like you got some tricks up your sleeve," Viscar commented and Licht felt relieved on the fact that Viscar didn't question anything he did.

"Aaaaand, begin!" William yelled. Viscar began a sprint towards Licht as he held his axe high. There was quite a distance, and Licht took the few seconds he had to familiarize himself with the weight of his sword.

Viscar brought his heavy weapon down and landed on the stone with a crash. Licht had narrowly avoided the attack, not because he was slow but because he had wanted to test Viscar's attack power through the air pressure created from the swing. Licht glanced at where he once previously stood and whistled.

"Impressive," Licht praises. Though he had said this genuinely, his lethargic expression did not change, therefore causing Viscar to get the wrong idea. Viscar twitched, "Kid if you don't do your best you'll be crushed. Got that?"

[Teleport]

Licht takes this moment to teleport behind Viscar, though he isn't surprised. His weapon is already in motion, as he twists his body using the momentum to increase his attack power.

[Teleport]

During this movement, Licht goes back to his previous position and swipes his sword at the back of Viscar's knees. Licht quickly backs away after this attack. His attack had been accurate, sure, but way too shallow to be considered threatening.

'The old geezer is using magic.' Licht thought to himself. Licht pondered to himself for a moment, it wasn't against the rules to use magic so he should have expected it. Licht scolded himself briefly and focused back on the 'examination'.

"Don't you think that eye patch is hindering you? Why don't you take it off?"

"I'm fine. Thank you for your concern, but please worry about yourself first." Licht said as he activated [Ice Lance] with a snap of his fingers. Six icicles appear in view, right above Licht. Flexing his fingers, Licht sends all six towards a surprised Viscar.

They slid through the air at high speeds, yet Viscar easily made a shield from the earth below them. [Earth Wall] was the skill he had used, Licht was familiar with it since it was a fairly popular skill among beginner earth magic wielders.

Licht gritted his teeth and planted his feet on the floor, ice spread from his feet to the entirety of the platform. A notification appeared distracting Licht for a moment; Viscar was still trying to find proper footing on the ice so Licht saw no harm in looking away for a second.

-------------------------------

[Please provide a name for the created Ice Magic skill]

Licht's eye twitched, he had looked away for THIS. Viscar had gotten familiar with the low friction of the ice and had used it as an advantage. Licht silently told the system to pick a name on its own and it did exactly so. Though Licht paid it no mind, the skill was called [Ice Footing].

Both weapons clashed together multiple times, and Viscar was surprised that the little boy could handle the weight of his axe. Weapons clashed again and Licht made a decision to hold them both in that position. It soon became a battle of strength.

Licht didn't want to go full out, he had to make it all seem reasonable. If Viscar were to feel like he would lose, he would immediately back off; tearing off the backbone of Licht's short layout.

"Aren't ya full of surprises?" Viscar asks rhetorically. Licht gave a mocking smile making him look slightly antagonistic, "Do you really think I'm done?"

[Lightning Magic]

Lightning spreads through the melting ice faster than the speed of light. It comes in contact with Viscar's shoes but soon sputters out.

"Tch. Must be leather." Though another idea sparks up in his brain. As Viscar is about back away, Licht grabs Viscar's weapon by the handle and channels lightning through it.

"Guaaaaah!" He yells in pain as he falls to his knees on the ground, yet he still grips the axe as he burns from the high voltage. His yells continue as everyone watched horror-struck, by the scene in front of them.

"Noisy," Licht mutters out with a sigh as he lets go of the axe. It falls to the floor with a loud bang along with its master. Smoke wafts from Viscar's body as silence is heard.

"He's still alive, so can someone get a healer?"
