Chapter 25 - A Story

Licht panted softly, as he wiped his damp face with his bloodied hands. "Ack!" He exclaims, he soon realized that he had done more than he should have contributed. His face soon scrunched up. He saw no reason not to explain to them, it's the least he could do to his family. Although, he was uncomfortable with Viscar.

'No big deal.' he thought to himself. 'If he tries anything, I'll kill him.' He shoots a hard stare at Viscar, who was whispering to his father.

"You sure did well, huh? Raising such a monster, you beast!" Viscar said jokingly, William gave a chuckle as a reply. "Truth be told, I didn't really do anything." He confesses.

"Huh?"

"Licht's status is....um...faulty," he says with a sigh. "I only started training him sometime after the job selection ceremony. I barely taught him anything. He was just like.... that."

"Huh?! Hold on!" Viscar's eyes widen, "You're telling me the kid became like that all on his own?!"

'Yes.' Licht thought to himself as he rolled his eyes. 'At least he's not a threat,' he said seeing how Viscar and William got along. 'For now.'

"Are you finally going to tell us the truth?" William asked with a raised brow. Licht nodded his head silently and squirmed in his seat. He was in his father's study room, along with the rest of his family members. The Hershold Family.

Lyra saw his uncomfortable expression and sighed softly, "You don't have to force yourself. Though you have to know that no matter what you do or you are, you are still our son. Still our little Licht."

Licht frowned when she said all this, 'Will they really say that when they realize I am not human anymore?' Licht pinched his hand as he thought this, and shook his head. It was no big deal; he wasn't one to overthink things more than needed.

If they didn't accept him the way he was, it didn't matter. They'll probably ignore him like his parents back in Japan. If he couldn't stay here, he could run away and find another place. It.....didn't mat-

"Oh goodness! Are you alright dear? Did we do something wrong?"

"Ehh?! What happened?!"

"Did we miss something?!"

'Something wrong? Am I alright? Wha-' Licht felt a tear drop from his face. His hands shook as he traced the wet trail down his face. He was crying?

"Why?" Licht whispered. He couldn't remember the last time he cried, and it was a weird sight for his siblings and parents.

"Oh gods. Never mind all this. Licht, you know you don't have to do this if you don't want to. We can wait and do it another time." William stated.

"No!" Licht yelled; his feelings scattered all over the place. He didn't know why he was crying, but he wanted to do this now.

"I...." He started but trailed off. Everyone was quiet, and all eyes were on him, waiting for him. "I...I don't think I'm human anymore." He says as he averts his eyes. Upon hearing no criticism, he turns his attention to his family.

They all stared at him curiously, "I can't tell you everything, but I got my status since I was a year old. And with nothing better to do, I decided to get stronger. As each day passed, my level grew and I soon surpassed the max level, level 200."

"Impossible!" William interrupted, "Even the elites and S-rankers are barely level hundred!"

Licht shrugged with a weary smile, "I guess I'm special. I've had my luck maxed out since I can remember, and because of that I got really special and helpful skills. I surpassed level 200 when I was 7, but surprisingly I still continued leveling up. I didn't know how it was possible, but I didn't mind. But one day, without me noticing, my status became like this." Licht explains as he makes his status screen visible to them.

Its pixels were moving around, as Licht tried to select options that his status screen once had. Leonhard stared at it genuinely impressed and Roslyn looked at it confused. "But does that make you any less human?" She asked.

"I was getting to that." He began, "Later on sometime after the ceremony, I was in the forest searching for some minerals and magic ores to use to make my weapons. The weapons, by the way, are made by yours truly." He states as he gave a quiet giggle.

William frowns, he had never once thought about where Licht's strange weapons came from. He didn't know how much he had. He only knew about the short-sword and the gauntlets.

Lyra too frowned. She didn't like the idea of Licht going into the dangerous forest at his young age.

"I had exhausted my usual cave of materials, so I went to look for a new one. And there I found a dragon. After that, the dragon requested a contract in fear of his life and I accepted. Then-"

"Wait! Wait! Wait!" William yells interrupting Licht. "You just said 'dragon', didn't you?! How can you call it out so nonchalant like that?!"

Lyra blinked rapidly, "He said dragon?!"

"What else?!"

"I don't know, I thought I misheard him so I was just following the mood!"

"Then! ~" Licht continued loudly, "After the contract, I became a Draconic human."

It was eerily quiet for a while, though it was broken. "Either way, Licht is still Licht. My sweet and cute baby brother." Gerald says as he squeezes Licht in a bear hug.

Licht sighs relieved. There was no way he was ever going to leave his family.
