Chapter 29 - Pay Me

Muffled breathing and growls flow with the wind, bringing about frightened noises from both horses and pained whimpers from Mark. Licht whistled, impressed at how the mere presence of a monster puts an area in complete chaos.

"I better get paid for this, Mark, escorts aren't easy to get." He said as he stretched out his body with exaggerated motions.

"Say, Licht," Lyra called out as she drank from her dainty teacup. She and Licht were in their garden, as they watched William laugh while carrying around Roslyn and Leonhard on his biceps.

"How is it that you use magic without incantations?" She questioned giving him a quick glance. Licht put his own cup onto the saucer, "I didn't know magic needed incantations. I also never saw you use any when you healed the old...I mean, father."

"Yes, that is correct. Though, that is because of a unique skill." She explained. "I learned of the dangers of such skill the hard way. Incantations aside, there is another way of ensuring your safety..."

"Weapon System Commence," Licht called out as he internally grimaced at its corniness. Though he had made a promise, so he was going to keep it.

"Today's selection, the great axe." Licht commentated to himself as the axe fell to the ground with a loud bang.

Licht lifted it with ease, as he rushed toward the monster. A fire boar.

Though the monster wasn't very smart, it was a very common variant amongst other monsters. It had control over fire, and again, because it wasn't very smart it could only use its fire to envelope itself.

Upon seeing a figure rushing towards it, the boar gave a loud roar and charged straight towards Licht. The boar leaped forward, trying to use its large mass to crush Licht.

Licht saw this, "Movement Magic: [Teleport]." He mumbled to himself, reappearing above the boar. The weight of the axe, being weighed down by gravity, fell with great speed and cut the boar's head clean off.

Licht got up from the cloud of dust made, as he made his way towards Mark, still coughing. "Are you alright?" He asks ignoring the dumbfounded look on his face.

Licht held Mark's broken left arm and tore off the cloth that covered it. Upon inspection, Licht could see that Mark had dislocated it and there was a possibility of internal bleeding. "Take a deep breath," Licht instructed.

Mark, although confused, did as he was told. And then.... *Crack*

Licht snapped Mark's shoulder back into place, "Ahhhh!Guhh!" He howled as unbearable pain washed over him. "Healing Magic: [Mother's Lullaby]," Licht chants as he watches a small smile appear on Mark's face. A magic spell, taught to him by his mother. It helps distract the patient from pain during the healing process.

Mark gives a chuckle as he mumbled to himself, "So good to see yer 'gain mama..." Then he passed out.

Licht sighed, "I better get paid double." He walked towards the cart and inspected it before taking hold of the reins.

Licht was about to leave when he glanced at the dismembered boar. "Maybe I can sell this. I don't really know how long till the entrance exam."

After thinking for a few minutes, Licht put the boar into his item box.

The horses kept moving, Licht wanted to get to the capital as soon as possible. The faster he gets there, the more rest he could get. He wasn't keen on the idea of getting introduced to other monsters.

But unfortunately, both horses dragging the cart had other ideas. After about 3 hours, the horses refused to move. Licht groaned loudly, the sun was already setting and they've barely made a dent at the distance to the capital.

"Support Magic: Overall Enhancement Commence." Licht begins as its corresponding circle forms beneath the horses. "Physical Enhancement: [Hard Skin]; Strength Enhancement: [Strength]; Agility Enhancement: [Agility]." Licht takes a moment to catch his breath.

"What else..." he mumbles to himself. "Ah. Stamina Enhancement: [Vital Pump]." A bright light flashes and the circle slowly fades away, "Overall Enhancement Complete."

Licht nods, 'I sound like the AIs we had back on Earth. If I compare what I'm doing to that, it seems less embarrassing.'

The speed of both horses increases, as soon as Licht whips the reins. Terrains pass by in a blur, the cart creaks continuously because of the speed and strain but Licht holds it together with his magic. He was determined to get to the capital in record time.

Licht rode through two nights and one day. On the second day, Mark finally woke up. He was familiar with the routes to the capital since he was a merchant, moreover, he recognized where he was instantly and was confused as to how he got to where he was so fast.

"Just who is this kid," he mutters to himself as his previous memory from before passing out, flashes in his mind.
