Chapter 18 - Special Examination

Ains' dagger blade clashes against Licht's blade resulting in a burst of sparks. A drop of sweat falls from his head, it would have been a bit easier if he didn't have to use magic to block every deadly blow from Licht.

'If I don't do something soon, I'll die in the most humiliating way. And where did this kid get his weapon from?' Ains had many questions when he saw the boy in front of him. He had tried to ask the kid himself but...

"Who sent you?" Ains had once asked.

"I sent myself."

"What business do you have with me and my Master?"

"Personal business."

"Where did you get your weapon?"

"Found it lying around somewhere."

'It's all useless,' Ains growled with an agitated expression. This conversion had happened at some time during the fight.

Ains leaped backward multiple times, trying to get some distance. 'If the kid is so great at close combat, magic is the way to go.'

"[Wind Blade]!" Ains yells with his arm and palm out. Licht flinches at his yell, and the attack whooshes by making a cut on Licht's dark skin. Licht raises his hand as his fingers trace the already closing wound on his arm. Ains goes into a state of shock as he sees the wound, he had inflicted on Licht, vanish in less than 5 seconds.

Licht gave a sigh, as he decided to get serious. He dug his foot to the ground and a crater formed from the pressure. Pushing off the ground, he sped toward Ains in less than a second. Ains' eyes widened.

"[Gale She-" Licht interrupts him with a firm hit to the gut. Without any warning, fatal wounds were made. With broken ribs and ruptured organs, Ains struggles as he tried to get on his feet.

"Kuh. You aren't getting any information from me. No point in trying." Ains stated boldly as he chuckled proudly. He gave a smirk but soon frowned at Licht's lack of expression.

'Why aren't you responding?' Ains wanted to ask, but Licht spoke up first.

"Time to end you," Licht called out nonchalantly. Ains' eyes widened in fear, "Ehh? W-wa-" He stuttered out.

"Too late." Licht swiftly ended Ains' life. Torturing was too much of a pain to Licht.

The next day, breakfast time. Lyra had noticed the rare upbeat mood of Licht. She smiled as she watched his usual indifferent expression stuff food in his face. But as a mother, she couldn't miss the satisfied glint in his eye. Lyra gave a quiet chuckle, 'Licht is finally opening up to us, isn't he?'

After breakfast, Licht had been pulled for practice unwillingly and he wasn't allowed to make any excuses since he had taken a day off yesterday. And so, he stood a distance away from the stone platform and leaned on his wooden weapon as he watched Leonhard and Roslyn duel against one another.

"If I'm just going to watch them, I might as well just go to my room," Licht says as he starts his way to his room.

"Don't leave! ~" Gerald calls out Licht, pulling him to his chest. "Yes," William agrees. "You're not yet done for the day."

"What do you m-"

"Is this the little man?" A deep baritone voice calls out as a large hand lands and ruffles Licht's hair. Looking up, Licht saw an overly large and rugged man. His hair dark as night, eyes thin and imposing. With a scar, from his left eye down to his lip, his intimidating factor was raised by a few hundred.

Licht raised his brow at his father, silently demanding an explanation. William gave a hearty chuckle, "Licht, I present to you the Director and Principal of the Arias Magic Academy, Viscar Royule."

"Sure, but why is he gracing us with his presence?" Licht said with sarcasm dripping with every word he uttered.

"He's a feisty one, isn't he?" Viscar butts in. William gasps in amazement, "That's exactly what I said when I first met him!"

"Great minds truly do think alike, don't they?" Viscus remarks.

They both chuckled as they chatted away. Licht silently watched them as he backed away. He wanted nothing to do with what was about to happen. "Licht, my boy! You're about to take a very special examination. So do your best!"

Licht freezes in his steps and silently weighed whether or not to [Teleport] out of the area. Licht waved his hand in a shooing motion, "What are you talking about? I don't need to take my entrance exam until I'm 13. Soo, no way."

"Licht! ~ Come on!" His father whined. "Viscar came all this way. I promise not to ask anything else of you!" He begs. Licht turns and when William sees the lack of interest from Licht's expression, he immediately slumps as all light leaves his eyes.

"I might as well just kill myself," William says in a depressed tone, which causes Licht to flinch. His expression that was once lethargic soon becomes uncomfortable. William sees this change and continuously eggs him on.

"There's no reason to live. My son hates me..." He steals a glance at Licht and is delighted to see that his plan was working perfectly. Meanwhile, Licht was annoyed by the fact that he might actually fall for it. He gave an annoyed sigh, "Fine. I get to let loose right?"

"Hmm? Sure."

"And you promise not to ask questions?"

"Don't know what you mean, but okay."

"Tsk, then I have no choice." Licht clicks his tongue. In all honesty, Licht had expected his father to refuse his second request. That would have been a perfect excuse, he had once thought.

"Please let's get this over with. After this, I get the remaining day off." Licht stated as a matter of fact. William hadn't approved of this, but Licht felt that he deserved it at the very least.

"I'll gladly take you on that offer."
