Chapter 16 - Devil Incarnate

Licht wiggles his way out of his brother's tight grasp, lands with a soft thump and points at his left eye, "My other eye changed color for some weird reason and mother thought it would cause unwanted attention." He deadpanned.

Gerald's eyes went wide and he gave a long sound of anticipation, "Ahhh!~ Won't you show your big brother, Licht?~" His fingers made a weird and uncomfortable gesture with his fingers wriggling inwards and outwards his palm.

Licht cringed inwardly and moved out of Gerald's reach, "Hold on!" He called out, "I can take it off on my own. So please keep your distance." He shifts further from his brother, and this contrasts his usual fearless behavior. The only person or thing that could make Licht uncomfortable or fearful in any way was probably the man in front of him.

Licht slowly raised the rubber strings of the patch over his head, "There. Anything else?" He asked. He wanted to get things over and done. He needed to find the culprit and rid of him before lunch arrived. Gerald, on the other hand, was drooling at the sight. He felt that Licht looked cute, with his slit pupils which made him look like a beastman.

Licht shivered as he watched saliva and blood drip out from Gerald's mouth and nose. It reminded him of those perverts that one would occasionally see in the news back in Japan. Gerald made a wild jump at Licht, but like he always does he dodges skillfully. But yet again, his moves were predicted and intercepted.

Elgard anxiously brushed through the horse's mane, he had previously felt eyes watching and assessing him. They seem to have left though, but that didn't help to calm his nerves. He was on edge, constantly checking his surroundings. He pulled his coat tighter around him as he felt his stomach churn due to his anxiety.

'Is Master Ains here?' he thought. 'But I still have a day left.' He soon became frantic, he wanted to leave the premises as soon as possible and run far far away. Just a few more minutes left.

He soon finished afterward, and he walked to his dorm, a building that was a few meters to the side of the horse stables. As soon as he walked in, he darted straight to his chest where he kept all his clothes and belongings. He packs his belongings into a cloth bag in a frenzied state, as he muttered to himself.

"I still have some time. He won't get me, I'll survive. There's still some time left." He repeats to himself. His eyes darted around the room in unreal paranoia, and a thud echoed in the room. He was the only one who occupied the room, so it didn't bother anyone when he gave a cowardly squeal.

Licht stood just behind him, his eye a usual lethargic yet still menacing as they glowed in the dark and cool room. He wanted to kill the man in front of him and torture him. But he also needed information on the person who hired him in the first place.

Licht said nothing, as he calmly walked up to a trembling Elgard. Elgard, although he thought of the child as weird, he didn't see Licht as a threat. He ran towards the door, pushing Licht out of the way. At least he tried to. Although he used as much strength he could muster, Licht didn't move an inch.

"Impossible," Elgard muttered to himself as he backed away further into the room.

'Is he from Ains? Did he send some kid to kill me? Impossible! A kid is no match for me!' Elgard thought to himself as he brought a hidden dagger from his coat pocket. Licht looked down at Elgard's hand and scoffed.

"Seems like chivalry is truly dead." He said as he remembers the hypocritical words of society in his past life. Licht gave a mocking sneer at Elgard, "Did you really think I would die from something as weak as Ridaphis?"

Ridaphis was a very rare and expensive herb to get, it was also very strong; burning away at your insides after being ingested. He had gotten the information from his useless dragon, who was probably only useful as an encyclopedia and a watchdog.

"I didn't want to do it!" Elgard yelled as he recognized the boy. "I had no choice, they made me do it all!" He earnestly hoped that if he confessed all his wrongdoings to his Young Master, maybe he would be saved from Ains and the Alderman family wrath.

"Oh really?" Licht asked in faux concern, "Did they threaten to kill you? Or maybe kill your family members? I guess not. I doubt you even had the conscience to even think about them huh?" He said as he slowly waltzed closer. As he was right in front of Elgard, Elgard made a wild swing with the dagger.

Licht skillfully deflects the dagger's blade with his bare hand, and as Elgard sees this, he turns pale.

"Y-you're not human. M-monster! You're a monster!" He yells as he scrambles around for a plan to escape the devil incarnate in front of him.

"I'm the monster? This is why I hate humans." He says as uncomfortable memories from his past life surface. "They always assume, and they're hypocritical too."

He passes Elgard a cold look, "Didn't you just a few days ago try to kill me and my family? And now that I finally find you to give you what you deserve, you call me a monster? The word for this situation is ironic is it not?"

Although Elgard could not understand a thing that Licht said, what he knew was that the kid in front of him was not alright in the head. The crazed eye of Licht frightened him to no end, he wanted to leave the room. He didn't want to die.

"You just thought 'I don't want to die' didn't you?" Licht asked. But to be honest, it was practically written on Elgard's face. Licht gave a sardonic smile, "Well ~ If you tell me all you know about your employers, I might see a reason to keep you alive. Do we have a deal?"
