Chapter 13 - The Rummage

Licht had woken up in a bad mood. He had woken to the sound of his father and brother yelling as they swung their sticks like drunken maniacs. Licht got dressed and went down for breakfast. All nuclear family members needed to be present for breakfast as long as they are within the area.

Lyra had come up with this idea. One of the ladies in the village had told her that having a meal once a day together, can slowly build family bonds. And Lyra had been desperate to try it. Now Licht won't be so distant all the time, Lyra had thought.

Licht blinked sluggishly and helped himself to a small bite whilst his family prayed. As he swallowed, he saw a familiar notification.

[Ridaphis poison has been ingested]

[Purifying harmful components]

[Purification complete]

Licht paused and scanned the message once more. He slowly put his fork down onto the plate, as a feeling of nausea came over him. He gave a small sniff to the air and caught other scents of the same poison that he had just ingested. And these scents came from each member of the family's plate.

Licht looked up, with a pissed look on his face and held the table in a tight grip to control himself. He told himself that causing a scene will cause the assassin to be suspicious. Even though these words repeated in his head, his anger did not decrease. His hand kept clenching on the table until it eventually broke on his side. Licht looked at the broken piece still in his hands and sighed relief. Breaking the table had been somewhat satisfying, even if it didn't quench his thirst for vengeance.

Licht walked down the dark and empty hallways as he made his way to the servants' quarters. Throughout the day, Licht had been in a constantly worse mood. And with this grim mood, he had acted rather aggressive with the daily training with William. Much so, that William had feared for the other individuals that were unfortunate enough to practice in the same area as Licht. Afterward, Licht was given an early dismissal.

Licht stood before the entryway into the servants' quarters and activated his [Stealth] skill. Licht pushed the door lightly and took a cautious peek inside. In front of him was a long hallway that seemed to go on forever. The carpet that lay there was colored a deep blood red and the wallpaper was in an elegant but old-fashioned floral design. It looked expensive for a servants' quarter.

As Licht walked, he came across some doors, though the rooms behind those doors were empty with no furniture or belongings. But before long, Licht had started hearing the gentle and not-so-gentle snores of the servants and maids that worked in the mansion. Licht walked to the next door and opened it with a small creak. He waltzed inside and sniffed and searched through their belongings. So as to not alarm them, Licht had tried out a new skill for the first time.

---------------------

[All-Seeing Draconic Eyes]

The eyes that can see through all things if the user wishes it. Skill is exclusive to only high tier dragonkin.

This skill was a racial skill that Licht had gotten after his evolution. After his early dismissal, Licht had been bored and had asked the system for his skills. After some paraphrasing and a lot of frustration, Licht had only gotten the general details of his racial skills.

Though he was not aware, as Licht activated his new skill his left eye glowed dangerously making him look less of a human, from beneath the eye-patch. Licht's skill made it possible for him to look through the maids' chests without causing a mess, which was very helpful. However, none of the maids in the room had anything incriminating. Licht continued with this process for three hours and with no luck.

The only section he hadn't checked was the coaching and kitchenning sections. He couldn't seem to find either section even though he had reached the end of the hall. Licht clenched his fists, he felt on edge.

Better keep a closer eye on the servants around here, Licht thought to himself.

With this thought in mind, Licht went back to his room to sleep.

"My Master has no use for you anymore. Seeing as you failed your task that has been assigned three times."

From the crystal ball, he was communicating from, anyone could see the annoyance that was displayed in his glare. His master had hired one of the servants in the Hershold household in hopes of getting rid of them once and for all.

You see, the rivalry between the two family runs deep. The Hershold family and the Alderman family. Though, it was only the Alderman family who saw their relationship as a rivalry. William was completely oblivious.

"Please don't kill me, sir! I promise I'll do better!" Another voice called out in fear of his life. He just wanted to live a completely normal life; get a wife and have some children. But the wrong guys just happened to get some dirt on him and he had to follow whatever he was told to do. He didn't know why they wanted Master Licht dead, but he didn't care either. All he knew is that he was lucky enough, in that type of situation he would have been made a slave at worst.

Ains clicked his tongue, "You...I can't deal with you right now because I am busy. I will arrive in two days. If you have not executed your mission by then, I will have to eliminate you." He harshly called out. For his master to send such an amateur greatly annoyed him. He felt that he by himself would have been enough to do away with the whole family line, but his master disagreed with the idea.

Ains disconnected the call and slouched on his seat. His brows furrowed in anger as he bared his teeth at the empty room.

"If that useless good for nothing doesn't complete his task, then I will. I am deeply sorry, master, truly I am. But your wishes shouldn't be left undone."
