"Who's blasting that?" I muttered, placing my hands over my ears as I attempted to block out the noise.
The music was heavy rock metal that was shaking the walls and I'd be fine with it if it wasn't so early in the day.
At first I screamed, an attempt to get whoever was in control of the music to turn it down while not getting out of the comfort of my bed.
I tried that for a couple of minutes, but after realizing my attempts were futile, I got out of my bed while mumbling strings of curses.
"Ariel! WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING?" I asked, yelling over the music as she danced away in the bathroom.
"Rise and shine, Dove!" She exclaimed, her words muffled because she was brushing her teeth.
"I might just murder you." I said, rubbing my eyes as I tried to chase the sleep away.
"Where's Zora?" Ariel questioned, seeing me as the only person in the bathroom.
After switching off the music, I went towards my room, ready to sleep for a couple more minutes.
"Oh no you don't! It's time to get up." Ariel said, pointing at the clock as I covered my head with the blanket.
"It's 6pm and we have school at 7pm. I have time." I said, holding my blanket close to me as I shut my eyes tight.
"Exactly. Class starts at 7 meaning we have to get there by 6:55. Which means we have to leave by 6:40. That means we have 40 minutes to get ready and get out." Ariel said, frantically speaking as she explained to me the urgency behind getting up.
"5 minutes. Get Zora up and then I'll follow right after." I said, my mind drifting to sleep right after I said that.
"Okay shes up. Your turn." She said, trying to take off my blanket.
"No way it's been 5 minutes." I said, denying what she was saying.
"Your lying. I just closed my eyes!" I exclaimed as she pointed towards the clock on my nightstand.
Letting out a cry, I got up reluctantly.
"Is anyone showering?" I asked, walking towards the bathroom with Ariel close behind me.
"Stephanie refuses to get out the bathroom she and Zora are supposed to share and books it for 2 hours in exchange of not singing. So Zora might be." Ariel said.
"Morning Dove." Zora exclaimed as I yawned out a "morning" while putting toothpaste on my red toothbrush.
"We have 40 minutes and I gotta shower so if none of you guys are taking a shower, I would like to go." I said, brushing my teeth in the process.
"It's not my hair wash day and I usually shower after school so your good." Zora said, shaving her legs in the tub.
"What about you Ariel?" I asked, getting my shower cap since I didn't want to wet my hair.
"Ive already showered. I just need to do my hair, makeup, and get my clothes." She said.
"Wait my clothes. I forgot to get them." I said groaning in realization as I left the bathroom and entered my closet.
I decided to get a white crop top with black at its borders meaning at the ends of the shirt, the neckline, and the ends of the short sleeves. I decided to go with black skinny jeans underneath.
"Okay I'm done shaving. You can go in." Zora said, getting out of the tub.
"Thanks." I said, closing the door and undressing to take a quick shower while
putting on a shower cap.
As the hot water hit my skin and relaxed my muscles, the reality that I had to go to school and interact with people was becoming more and more real to me.
—
"Should I just leave my hair straight?" I asked Ariel as she curled her straight locks.
"Yeah it looks good that way." She said as Zora rummaged through her clothes for something.
"Good because I didn't feel like doing anything." I said, taking out my makeup.
I didn't really need makeup, my skin flawless just like every other demon/vampire. It was the one thing we had going for us. Well, I mean we have strength and power too. But considering how we are bloodthirsty and savage monsters at the end of the day, it's a small gift in exchange for a big fee.
"I honestly don't know why I decided to go here and not be homeschooled. " Zora said yawning as she waved her individual lashes because they had glue on them.
"Same but this wasn't even my choice." I replied, yawning obnoxiously as I laid my head down on the dresser I had my makeup on, not caring about putting on makeup anymore and looking "presentable".
"You guys are such party poopers." Ariel said, putting away the curling wand since it had cooled down.
"Actually there's no party so there's nothing to poop on." I said, getting my head up as Ariel nudged me obnoxiously.
"Good one" Zora said, high fiving me.
"I don't know how Ariel is so enthusiastic about school." Zora said, putting away her stuff while I put on lip gloss and highlighter.
"I'm not enthusiastic and I pretty much hate school like everyone else. I'm just anxious so I being optimistic or else I'd be rolling in my tears." Ariel said, her voice a little pitchy as the panic really started to show on her face.
"Oh god. What if I make a fool out of myself and do something really embarrassing. W-" Ariel said, vomiting out her words.
"Okay Ariel calm down." I said, holding her by her shoulders.
"Breathe in." I said as she started to open her mouth.
"Can I breathe out now!?" Ariel asked after a minute had passed.
"Yes." I said, watching as she exhaled and inhaled dramatically.
"You almost killed me there. What were you trying to do?" Ariel asked as I looked for my second sock.
"Kill you of course." I replied jokingly, finally finding my other sock at the most randomest spot.
"What are you so worried about anyway Ariel. You and I became friends the first day." I said, remembering how due wasn't shy at all when we met.
"I could sense you were a good soul the minute I met you so I wasn't that worried about how to become friends with you. But your right I'm usually not the shy and in my shell one. Thats Zora." Ariel said pointing towards Zora to which she questioned if that was an insult.
"But I'm just scared of Stephanie and her minions. I'm good with public speaking but there's something about confrontation that gets me all nervous." Ariel said, explaining her state while my mind wondered to Elena.
Today's the day I get her to stop taking pictures of me and uploading it with her load of crap captions. I managed to contact my father and get the post taken down anonymously, but I knew that wouldn't stop her from making any more posts in the future.
"You got this Ariel. You only have one class without us and if you need me or Dove just text us. Right Dove?" Zora said, snapping me out of my bubble of thoughts.
"Of course." I said, tying my shoelaces.
"I'll be your knight in shining armor whenever you need it." I said, winking at Ariel.
"My hero!" She said, going back to the Ariel I knew and loved.
——
"I'm not ready." I said, watching as Zora and Ariel opened the door and I sat there in the back seat, not ready to go back to taking notes, studying for tests, having to make friends, and all that crap since I didn't really know how.
"I thought I was supposed to be the scared and anxious one." Ariel said, turning back to look at me.
"I'm not scared. I just have to mentally prepare myself for the load of work that schools about to put on me." I said, my mind working overload as I went over all the rules I had been taught, the things I had to hide, and the behavior I had to present to everyone.
Rule 1: Don't kill anyone.
Rule 2: Be kind but not a pushover.
Rule 3: Don't skip class.
Rule 4: Be respectful to the-
"Are you done?" Ariel asked, as the bell rang throughout the school to go to class.
"Sheesh your so mean to me Ariel." I said, mumbling in complaint as I got out of the car.
"I'm sorry but we are gonna be late." Ariel said, as she and Zora got out of the car as well.
"See you in second period." Zora said while Ariel waved bye to me as they made their way to class.
Wait— where am I suppose to go?
Before I could ask Ariel and Zora where History of Magic was for Mrs. Celine they were gone.
Great.
