Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The last hours before the summoning

Coral Forest-

The one who is currently swimming right now, is Rohan with a tired expression on his face, while holding a lantern in his hand. He felt like this was a pretty bad time for this crab to appear, since now this area will be full of adventurers by tomorrow. So he had to end this urgent mission quickly. As he was swimming, his shell phone rang suddenly and when he answered, the one who answered back was Matt.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Rohan."

"Why are you calling me all of a sudden?"

"Actually, where are you?"

"Check the transmitter at 340 Hz."

"Wait a sec... Alright. Seems like you are vey close to the area I am. Wait there for a bit."

Rohan stopped swimming and decided to wait for Matt to appear. After 10 minutes, Matt appeared with a lantern in his hand.

"So, what did you call me for?" Rohan asked seriously.

"Just... Come with me. I have found something you need to see." Matt said with a worried expression on his face.

After the duo swam for a little while, they finally reached an abandoned camp with just a tent and a burning campfire with a fire stone inside it.

"Here we are." Matt said.

"And why are we at someone else's campsite?" Rohan asked curiously.

"That's because right before i called you, the party that was in this campsite, just suddenly disappeared."

*sigh* "Can you explain it a bit better?" Rohan asked seriously.

"Where should I start...? Hmmm... I guess the only things I am sure of, are the fact that the party that was using it was the " Double Trouble" party and i spoke with one of their members before he suddenly disappeared." Matt explained as well as he could.

"Can you talk about the topics of your conversation?" Rohan asked back.

"Well, we talking about adventurer business as usual. He said that him and his party were trying to scout a monster crab in the area and mark it for a subjugation, while I said that I was on an investigation." Matt explained.

"After that?"

"Well after that, there were some tremors on the ground and in the next moment, the adventurer got taken away by an extremely fast shadow, but by the time I tried to follow them, the two of them had disappeared."

"Are there any other clues?"

"No dice. The only clues that I have are from the conversation and the events, nothing else on the campsite or nearby."

"Hmmm... Let's see if we can find anything else to locate them otherwise, it's better to check in the daytime since I don't think we have any ways of tracking them in the middle of the night." Rohan decided in the end.

"I see..."

"By the way, did you get what I told you?" Rohan asked.

"About right now or from before?" Matt asked with a hint of confusion on his face.

"From before."

"Here." Matt then threw at Rohan a small bag full of eggshells.

"Not very suprised to find them in the castle, since it would be natural. After all, the kid was trying to hatch his friend in the safest place he could think of." Matt then added.

"Hmmm... Interesting." Rohan said while being in thought.

After spending the next couple of minutes, examing the egg shells, he puts them away and says:

"Anyways, let's see what we can find right now for the missing party and then we talk about anything else."

-Crystalia City-

A lone woman was swimming through the streets with a calm expression on her face, when suddenly a her shell phone rang.

"Hello, you are talking with the Arch-Priestess's answering machine, if you would like to leave a message, please do so after the noise. Myeeeeeeh". The woman then stuck her tongue out like she was making a mocking expression.

"Hello answering machine, can you please tell the Arch-Priestess to stop her stupid bullcrap and make her answer seriously?" The one to answer was Toby with an annoyed expression on his face.

"Fine, fine. I'll stop joking around, Bishop Toby. Hehe." Laventhign said jokingly.

"Then why are you calling me on my day-off? I thought I said that no matter the business, you shall not interupt my day-off." Laventhign added.

"Well your day-off is about to be done and we need to do some quick preparations for the summoning as well." Toby answered back.

"Urghhh... I just don't feel the motivation anymore." Laventhign said with an annoyed expression on her face.

*sigh* 'She probably spent her day with one of her children today and once she does that, she will refuse to do any work until she either gets satisfied or brings them to her work.' Toby thought while massaging his temples from the headaches he was getting.

"Who did you spend the day with?" Toby asked clearly annoyed.

"Just someone, that's all. Don't pry on a maiden's business if you want to get yourself your significant other." Laventhign answered back witha smug expression on her face.

'What's this all of a sudden? She never hides which kid she spends the day with. Even during the time when she went and did that one-night stand, she still brought 3 of her children with her at the time. Uhhh... just remembering it, is giving me migraines.'

"So... May I ask who that someone may be?" Toby asked nervously.

"And like I said before, don't pry on a maiden's business if you want to get yourself your significant other." Laventhign said seriously.

"Anyways, motivation or not, if you don't do that, it will reflect badly at our church. If it does that, it reflects badly on you and if it does on you, so it does on your children. Now, do you really want that?" Toby then decided to try this kind of approach.

"Fine, fine, you win this time Toby. I'm coming immidiately. Jeez, you suck, you know that?" Laventhign said angrily.

"I'll take that as a compliment. Anyways, we will talk about that once you come. Farewell for now, Arch-Priestess Laventhign.

"Hate you too Bishop Toby. Talk to you later." Laventhign closed the call and left with an annoyed expression on her face.

When Toby closed the call, he said to himself:

"Uhhh... Why does she show this vulgar side of hers whenever I'm the only one around, but whenever someone else is in the vicinity, she is like the most benevolent and purest person alive. How can she pull that mask out of her?"

While Toby was having his headaches, a priest happened to pass by and saw that Toby was having the usual migraines. Toby himself did notice the priest and said to him:

"I have a task for you to complete and it's better for this to be completed as fast as possible." Toby said with a serious expression.

"May I ask what this task consists of, Bishop?" The priest himself asked.

"Track the Arch-Priestess' whereabouts of today. She probably used her dancer clothes again, so just ask for a dancer in blue. Also don't let anyone find you out, so don't use the church's clothes."

"As you wish sir." The priest answered back before he left.

Toby also left to do his business.

-The space between worlds-

A man with blue hair and blue eyes while wearing a toga, was sitting on a seat of a round table. With him, there were also 6 other people sitting on the table. A short man with green hair and eyes while wearing leaf clothes, a tall man with short red hair and eyes while wearing thin metal armor, a short man with brown hair, beard and eyes while wearing thick clothing, a tall woman with purple hair and eyes while having scaled skin and wearing thin battle armor, another tall woman with black hair and eyes while having bat wings on her back and wearing some rather revealing clothes and a short woman with short blond hair and golden eyes while having bird wings on her back and wearing a while one piece dress.

"Now, we shalt commense the 7998th meeting of the gods." *bang* The one who spoke was the man with the blue hair while banging a gavel on the table.

"Today's only topic is the god's champion talk. So... Without further ado, let's-"

"Come on Posy. Don't put that stone face. You know you want talk about the "Champions of the Gods" tournament, aren't you? You just want to scout us out." The one who spoke was the man with red hair.

"Vulcanus! What the hell are you talking about this time?" The man named Posy answered back, clearly being suprised.

"Yeah, I doubt Poseidon would go this far just to ask us for the tournament, besides you should know better that only time we get to see the other champions is through the interactions between them. So why bother asking?" The one who spoke was the scaled woman.

"Come on Mireu, don't fall for it so easily. You know that this guy is as slimy as an eel." Vulcanus was the one to answer back at the scaled woman.

"Guys, don't get sidetracked now, we won't know what he wants to say until we give him some space to speak." The man with the green hair spoke.

"Stay down Yggdrasil, young boys don't need to butt into the adult's business." The woman with black hair spoke next.

"How dare you bully Yggrda, Lucifer! I'll make sure to smite you into the next realm if you ever do that again." The woman with the blond hair spoke.

"Calm you washboards Metatron. No need to be so riled up." Lucifer said said. Metatron herself felt like she dying from embarassment and she was almsot ready to pounce at her when suddenly:

"Alright guys, I know you all want to talk and bicker and all that stuff, but let's ask what Poseidon wants to say quickly and then we start tearing each others throats." The man with brown hair said.

"Luchtaine is right, we won't get anywhere if we start ripping each other, so for now quiet down and let Poseidon speak. Then we go back at tearing each other." Mireu was the one to speak before everyone calmed down.

"Thank you Mireu. Anyways, the reason why mentioned the god's champions is that this time, He is playing as well. And this time, He is sure that he brought a great champion this time, easily rivaling some of our best champions in the past."

"Wait, by He, you don't mean..." Vulcanus was the one to speak first before Poseidon said:

"Yes, and I'm afraid that the race He picked this time, was of the Merman race. Unlike last time when he chose the angel, this time not only did he pick a strong person, but their affinity as well was of the highest degree." Poseidon explained with a serious expression on his face.

"Thus, we need to pick the strongest option we have available this time. We can't afford to lose this time. That is all."

Everyone was shocked. There was no sound for a little while until Mireu was the one to speak first:

"Well, I guess it's time for me to pick my champion. Catch you later guys, after picking my champion of course." Mireu then disappeared into a purple light.

"Well, I'm off as well. I don't intend to lose this time." Vulcanus said before he disappeared into a red light.

"Same." Yggdrasil was the next one to speak before he disappeared into a green light.

"Glad to have a talk for once but I can't stick around knowing that as well." Then Lucifer disappeared into a black light.

"Sorry for not staying anymore guys. Still I was happy to speak." Then Metatron disappeared into a yellow light.

The last two who stayed where Poseidon and Luchtaine.

"So will you leave immidiately Luch?" Poseidon asked.

"I have one final thing I would like to know." Luchtaine answered.

"What is it?"

"How much of a headstart does His champion have?" Luchraine asked.

"3 Days. I don't know how much power he has gathered but what I can tell, is that when the time comes, he will definitely posed a huge challenge." Poseidon said seriously.

"I see." Then Luchtaine disappeared into a brown light.

Then the table and chairs disappeared into blue lights before Poseidon said:

"I guess I have to get started as well on picking my champion as well. Hehe."
