Chapter 17 - Chapter 16: Somewhere to Go

Arakna felt light beginning to shine through. She blinked slowly, seeing that she'd fallen asleep out in the grass. Halfbreeds needed sleep compared to angels. They didn't need much, but it was different and a weakness to Arakna. She also didn't like that she'd relied on food. Once again, not much, but still. It was as if her body was slowly deteriorating.

It probably is, she thought to herself, picking up a little rock and throwing it.

She could smell food cooking inside the new cottage, it smelled sweet and smoky. She got up and walked toward the cottage when she stopped and looked up.

Lucias landed on the ground next to Arakna. Arakna looked around.

"He won't be here-" Lucias said, "-and you looked disappointed." He said smirking.

"What do you want Lucias?"

"I wanted to see you. Wanted to see what pulls Uriel so much toward you." He walked next to her, grabbing her hair, and staring at it. Then looking up behind her.

"Ah, Razo. Was it?"

Razo stood behind Arakna, glaring at Lucias.

"Don't touch her...." he growled.

"Oh my, possessive are we? She's taken. Am I right Arakna?" Lucias said with hazel eyes looking back.

Arakna jumped toward Razo, "Your eyes. They are a different color."

"Yes, yes, about that-"

"You're tainted."

"-yes, I do suppose I am."

Arakna looked suspiciously at Lucias, "Why are you here?"

Lucias frowned, waved at the air, as his once white wavy hair, turned black, "Clearly I can't hide it from you, but I am here on other terms."

"I thought you could only change or shift into animals?" Arakna said in confusion.

"Yes, well when I had a pure soul it never occurred to me to deceit people of who I am. When I changed then, it was simply to keep an eye on humans or to be a guardian."

"And now?" Arakna asked.

"A much bigger picture."

Arakna looked at Razo who nodded his head, gesturing her to walk with him. Arakna walked along Razo who glanced at Lucias then looked at her, "He was my previous master. He sent me to you and I don't trust him. I knew he looked familiar."

Arakna looked at Razo, then turned back toward Lucias, "What are you asking of me?"

Lucias smiled, "A trip to the Kingdom. Someone wishes to speak to you and 'I' need to sneak you in."

Arakna studied Lucias silently, then turned to Razo, "Please watch them for me. I will return."

Razo clenched his hands into fists, grinding his teeth, nodded at Arakna and turned away.

He couldn't believe she'd go back to that stupid Kingdom. Who needed a Kingdom when you have a home already, he thought looking at the cottage.

Ian poked his head out of the doorway, still partially waiting for Arakna and the other man to fly away. He looked familiar, but angels don't have black hair. It was best to be careful, he thought nodding. Razo walked up, "What are you nodding about little lamb?"

He jumped and yelped. He didn't realize he'd been so deep in thought Razo was already next to him.

Razo didn't react, "Have you waken your mother?"

"No!" Ian said as he ran toward his mom's room.

Razo nodded, turning away. He gathered their plates of food and starting prepping the table, leaving Arakna's plate empty. He frowned thinking about everything. Since when did this stupid place become 'home', let alone these pathetic huma-his thought changed as Ian held his mom's hand guiding her to her seat.

"Come on mom, Razo made us breakfast." Ian said softly.

Razo turned away, continuing setting up their table, "Well Ian's mom-"

Ian interrupted, "I've told you Razo, my mom likes Elle."

Razo sighed and rubbed his gold hair, closing his eyes, "Look, 'Elle', I'm not good with this fake family shit, but I made some damn food." He opened his eyes and saw Elle staring at him. That's the first time she looked at him, looking as if she was aware.

Ian continued to coax his mom, having her sit in her chair, "Now let's pray." Ian said nodding.

"Arakna isn't even here. Why the hell should I care?" Razo asked leaning back on the chair. Elle turned her head toward Ian, waiting for food.

"Look Razo!" Ian said delightfully. He smiled and kiss his mother's cheek, "You'll come back for me? Right mom?"

Razo stood up. Even though he felt this was a good moment for the kid, it really made him feel uncomfortable.

"I'm going to get some fresh air." He said walking out.

Ian didn't seemed phased as he continued to talk to his mom and feed her. Razo figured he could go out and look for more cooking ingredients. Cooking seemed to help make him feel calm. Then again, he hadn't target practice for awhile. He walked further away from the cottage towards the beginning of the woods. He hardened his wings, flicking a golden feather that would slam into a tree.

Odd, he thought as he'd noticed his once angel gift was stronger. Instead of slicing the tree and falling out, this time it stuck and went in a quarter of the way in.

Hmph, he muffled out, rubbing his chin then neck.

"What's changing?" He asked himself out loud.
