Chereads / The Quest Giver / Chapter 16 - A Mediocre Quest

Chapter 16 - A Mediocre Quest

With all the knowledge settling down, Quast slowly removed his hands from his face and stood up steadily.

"Hey, are you okay?" Jerry shouted and ran to his friend.

"Yeah, yeah it's just that I'm not used to acquiring so much knowledge in such a short span of time, I mean it doesn't hurt, it's just surprising and shocking." Quast answered.

Jerry let a breath of relief out. "So what knowledge did you gain?"

"I understand what skills are now." Quast said with a nervous smile on his face. "You gain them every 10 levels and they have a lot of rarities." then he started listing them out "Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, Ultra-Rare, Ultra-Ultra-Rare and lastly Ultra-Super Rare"

After a few second of silence Jerry said "Wait, those rarities are ripped straight out of a gacha game."

"No, no listen to me, what if gacha games ripped them off of the system, hmm?" Quast was asking the 'real' questions now.

"Hmm, indeed."

"Anyways, we were asking ourselves how to get magic, well a random element of magic is guaranteed at level 20, you know the elements like fire, water, wind and all the others, also magic is considered a skill that is always common but the rarity goes up as the user that has the magic levels up."

"Yeah, yeah." Jerry nodded as the words of Quast were still sinking in. "Bro, do you mean it is possible to be able to use real magic."

"Hell yeah!" both of them pumped their fists in the air.

Then Jerry remembered that there was still an Easy Quest waiting for completion and he notified his friend.

With his flawless and fail-proof plan of slicing them midair he defeated the last slime, but unlike the previous slimes this one dropped something before it dissapeared.

[You have obtained : Slime Mass(Uncommon)]

[This weird goo has a chance of dropping from slimes, it can be sold in the shop or combined with items for an effect and a small stat boost.]

"Woahh." Jerry had it in his hands and was playing with it. "Wait! You can sell things in the shop?" he asked as the shop appeared infront of both of them.

[Coins : 5][Sort Items by : Random][Sell]

[Universal Magic Orb : Price : 35000 Coins.]

[Fire Magic Staff : Price : 12500 Coins.]

[Spellbook of Dragon's Breath : Price : 15000 Coins.]

[Page 28/100...]

It remembered at what page they left off on and a new tab was added in the shop, a Sell option.

"Wait why did it unlock now?" Jerry asked.

"Must be because of what the slime dropped, it was the first ever drop from an enemy." Quast said as smaller waves of knowledge rushed through his brain.

"Hmm, the description says if I apply it to a weapon it will give a special effect and a stat boost. Haha fuck it." Jerry said as he smothered the Slime Mass on the sword, but the sword wasn't getting gooey at all and the Slime Mass just dissapeared and kept on dissapearing from Jerry's grasp, after it was all gone the description of the sword opened again, this time however it was changed.

[Slimy Metal Sword]

[+7 Strength(+2 Slimy)]

[This sword is made from an unknown weak metal, even though the metal is weak this sword is still good for beginners.]

[Effect (Slimy) : When hitting a target have a small chance to deal 3% more damage and when the effect is active you recieve 3% less damage.]

When it was read thoroughly the person who had applied the Slime Mass said "This is weaker than expected."

"Well, it scales with the rarity of the weapon." replied Quast.

"Oh."

"Yeah.." a silence filled the forest. "Well look on the bright side, now you know what it does!" Quast tried to lift his friend's spirits.

"Wait, here it says that it deals 3% more damage but how is that determined?" Jerry asked.

"Oh you just know when it activates and the enemy will just take more damage." was responded.

"Yes, but 3% of what? I don't know how much health they have." Jerry repeated.

"You don't need to know the amount of health they have, you will know when it happens." Quast tried to explain it better.

"Okay." and with that the conversation about percentages was dropped.

"I wonder if I can try a Mediocre quest." Jerry pointed at himself.

"Sure you can, but not a maxed one." Quast agreed "But you might need to allocate those 12 points you have."

"Oh wait." Quast paused what he was doing "This time the creature isn't a slime it seems, what do you think it is?"

"Uhhh I don't know." Jerry was stumped.

"What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear 'Fantasy creatures'?"

"Ahhhh, an orc?" was a guess, but right after that he corrected himself and said "A goblin, it's a goblin! Am I right?"

"Correct." Jerry was given a thumbs up.

A heads up was given when the goblin was about to be spawned and everyone got themselves ready.

The slight wind rustled the leaves of the trees and the grass on the ground flailed slightly.

[Defeat a goblin]

[Difficulty : Mediocre][Rewards : 650 Experience, 1 random uncommon accessory]

With the reward there he was reminded of the Easy quest.

But that didn't matter right now, having the goblin infront of him with a club in it's hand reminded Jerry of a human, how was he going to defeat a creature with human characteristics?

"Ah shit." Jerry mumbled "It looks like a human almost."

"Don't worry, I know how it looks, but I can assure you that it doesn't bleed and just dissapears afterwards and I can spawn it again, it's just an extension of the system, it is also aggro so it will attack you right away, be careful!" Quast reassured his friend.

When Jerry heard that it was just an extension of the system he immediately felt a bit better.

The goblin was smarter and a lot stronger than the slime that Jerry used to call easy and it had a weapon on top of that.

Jerry knew that he wouldn't have a guaranteed win if he didn't use his Attribute Points, so he added 7 into strength and 4 into agility, instantly feeling much stronger, his strength stat was now 26 and his agility was 20, he could probably take on an average adult and beat him easily, if he was lucky he could probably beat a body builder too.

With his newly strengthened Metal Sword in hand he turned his gaze towards the goblin, but the goblin wasn't waiting for Jerry to come out of his thoughts and started running at him.

This startled Jerry and took him by surprise, the goblin was fast and looked strong, with its wooden club in hand it prepared an overhead swing, Jerry had no time to evade and he by instinct put up his sword to guard the hit that was coming from above, with both hands on the sword, one on the handle and the other one at the tip of the blade he prepared himself for the moment of impact afraid of his blade breaking.

But the blade didn't break as the wooden weapon made contact with the metal, some of the force went into Jerry's fingers and then dissapated into his arms, he felt it, the goblin was so strong and this wasn't even a max Mediocre quest.

With ultimate concentration he swerved to the side and tried to slash the torso of the goblin, but it guarded with the wooden club, when the sword cut the club a visible mark was seen and some chunks of wood flew away, but Jerry didn't care as he redirected his swords movements faster than the goblin could and slashed it, a visible streak could be seen on the goblins skin but no blood came out, just as Quast had said.

The goblin shrieked and swung its club, hitting Jerry on the arm by a little bit.

Jerry bit his underlip as the pain came, even if it wasn't a full hit the pain was still a lot for that small of an area.

Aggravated by the pain he gripped the sword even harder than he had before and slashed at the goblin, hitting the club in the process, a huge piece was cut off of the goblin's wooden weapon as Jerry ran to the other side of the goblin so he could get a clean hit, the enemy was still recovering from the strong hit that was performed by Jerry on the club.

He decided to use his new Slash skill so he thought of activating it and his Metal Sword started glowing, a swift cut later and some aim to the head, the goblin was defeated and dissapeared, it didn't leave without dropping something though. It dropped 15 Coins and they went straight into the Shop balance.

The first Mediocre quest was completed and Jerry tried his best to suppress the pain as the quest window dissapeared, he had forgotten about the uncommon accessory reward.

[You have unlocked : Endurance Medallion(Uncommon)]

[+8 Endurance]

[This medallion is a nice work of art and dedication, it's made out of a shiny and yellowish, warm looking metal that's really tough.]

The medallion that looked like it was made out of gold and a mix of bronze, went straight into the Gear tab and was automatically equipped, giving Jerry an Endurance boost that made him feel like he could take any damage and still be left unharmed.

Quast had gained understanding about accessories when the quest was completed and it still shocked him, but he was getting better at recieving knowledge.

With Jerry's cool new medallion on his neck the Gear tab was opened.

[Gear]

[Endurance Medallion - Uncommon]

A new slot was added.

Jerry was tired so he put his sword back into the Gear tab and sat down on the grass.

"Let's have a little break shall we?" he asked, to which Quast agreed.
