Chereads / The Quest Giver / Chapter 21 - Entering a Dungeon

Chapter 21 - Entering a Dungeon

"Remember that thing with those delinquents outside of school, I bet if I posted it online I'd get called a liar." Jerry remembered the entire ordeal that happened an entire one day ago.

Jerry continued talking.. "Anyways, seems like today is the fated day where I get to kill- or was it actually defeat? Nevertheless I get to fight more goblins and slimes." the quests were going to be refilled today.

"Are you sure that you'll defeat goblins today? What if it was an enemy you've never seen before?" laughed Quast. "Nah I'm just joking, you will keep fighting goblins for the rest of your life."

"Aw man." Jerry pretended to be sad and after some silence he continued. "Actually, shouldn't we find another spot?"

"Nah the place we have is fine ." Quast shook his head as to disagree.

It was the second-to-last lesson now as they sat bored in their chairs waiting for the salvating conclusion to this and the next lesson, but in the next moment school was over and they were walking out of there to go home.

The chat interface was used to communicate when they were meeting today at the forest.

It was exactly at 3:00PM that they were meeting it was now 1:58PM. After doing nothing at home, except checking his phone from time to time Quast decided that it was the time for him to set off.

Jerry thought to arrive a little bit earlier and it was now 2:33PM when he was there, he thankfully had his phone and was scrolling stuff on it while waiting for his friend to arrive.

Just 10 minutes later with his green and black mountain bike Quast was at the scene. Both of them greeted eachother and went to their cherished spot that they had so much history with, even though it was only a few weeks since they got these powers and found it.

After moping around until the quests refilled they were ready to begin.

As they would normally do, they began with the Very Easy quests first.

[Defeat a fast slime]

[Difficulty : Very Easy][Rewards : 45 Experience]

He couldn't believe that he struggled against these things when he and Quast just began to use the system. They were too easy for him now, and with those 10 out that was a sweet 450 Experience in the pocket.

"Such growth of power in that little of time." amazed by his powers Jerry demanded the next quests, which were the Easy ones.

[Defeat a strong slime]

[Difficulty : Easy][Rewards : 180 Experience]

He could notice that with the raising of Experience everytime the quests refilled, the enemies were also getting stronger, well it was to be expected since he didn't think that free Experience would come to him just because of waiting.

The "strong slimes" were also very easy for Jerry and on the 6th Easy quest he got a level up.

[Name : Jerry Dankworth]

[Blood Type : O-][Negative Effects : None]

[Gear : Slimy Metal Sword, Endurance Medallion{embedded}]

[Statistics : 26 Strength 11 Intelligence 20 Agility]

[15 Dexterity 12 Endurance 5 Luck]

[Level 14 : 10/2000 Experience to Level 15]

[Attribute Points : 12]

[Skills : Slash(Common)]

On the 7th he got another Slime Mass and just kept it in his Gear tab.

The Easy quests were completed now and the next ones were the Mediocres.

"Raising the difficulty for more Experience." Quast alerted his friend.

"Sure." Jerry accepted.

[Defeat a strengthy goblin]

[Difficulty : Mediocre][Rewards : 1100 Experience]

"Such a huge jump in Experience." even though he had seen Mediocre quests before he was still astounded.

The newest goblin had little black horns that were growing out of its green head, and its weapon looked more refined, the unkown wood that it was made out of seemed a little darker.

The first thought that ran through Jerry's mind was that he should add his Attribute Points into something and the second one was "Why do I always use my points when they are 12?" almost everytime until now he had always allocated his points when they had reached the amount of 12, but in reality it was all a coincidence.

+6 into Strength and +6 into Agility, as expected of Jerry, he could now beat a bodybuilder in a one on one fight with not that much effort.

The Slimy Metal Sword was reflecting the light of the sun into Quast's eyes as Jerry decided on what he should do.

The goblin wasn't only stronger but it was a small bit smarter now, deciding to attack first but also trying to observe the movements of its enemy.

The Metal Sword started glowing as a lot of concentration was poured into tracking the movements of the goblin with the horns.

Jerry thought how if he messed something up he would get hurt, even though it wouldn't wound him as much because of all the Endurance he had, it would be favourable to avoid pain if possible.

It was as if the world froze as the enemy started running, Jerry decided to run straight forwards to the goblin. As the green fiend noticed this it swung wide in the air, but just in time the one with the sword dodged backwards almost getting hit in the process, the air pressure was still impressive even though it was witnessed a lot of times before.

"All or nothing!" Jerry thought as he went in as fast as he could forwards and swung the sword with the Slash skill activated on it, just in time the goblin put up a defense and the metal struck wood, chopping away at the club of the enemy "Fuck." a sincere swear coming from the heart was uttered by the one with the quest as he tried redirecting his attack.

Like always, the opportunity to defeat the still recovering goblin was taken and Jerry aimed for the throat with hope.

His hoping worked and he stabbed it right in the neck making it dissapear instantly, the newly added 6 points into Strength and Agility made a lot of the difference. No core was dropped, but at least 20 coins came into Jerry's possession.

The next Mediocre quest played out similarly and with the enemy defeated Jerry levelled up, the goblin also dropped 20 coins.

He was now level 15 on his way to level 16.

The next one however was different because Jerry made a mistake, a normal human mistake and ended up getting hit in the leg, the Endurance Medallion however did wonders and while it was still painful he could endure it. That goblin was then killed and the quest was completed plus some 25 coins were added to the balance making it so that he now had 120 Coins, only 4 more Mediocre quests remained.

With 2030 Experience out of the 2200 for level 16, Jerry waited for more enemies to come.

And the next one was killed with a Slash powered cut and it dropped a Monster Core together with 25 Coins, they went directly into the Gear tab.

The quest window dissapeared and the personal one appeared.

[Name : Jerry Dankworth]

[Blood Type : O-][Negative Effects : None]

[Gear : Slimy Metal Sword, Endurance Medallion{embedded}]

[Statistics : 32 Strength 11 Intelligence 26 Agility]

[15 Dexterity 12 Endurance 5 Luck]

[Level 16 : 930/2450 Experience to Level 17]

[Attribute Points : 6]

[Skills : Slash(Common)]

Levels were gained at a rapid rate.

With 3 more Mediocre quests remaining he could get another level up!

Then Jerry thought about something when reading through the personal window. "Wait, I've been ignoring my Luck stat for a while now, I think I'll add my 6 points into it." and so he did, and his Luck was now 11.

In the next fight with the horned goblin the Slimy effect on his sword activated twice and after the enemy died it dropped 35 Coins, of course it didn't go down without it afflicting damage upon Jerry and it wasn't a little graze, it was a full blown hit to the arm, if he didn't have so much Endurance it would've probably been broken, the strength also helped in him getting less hurt by the hit. Jerry cursed his unluckiness.

The penultimate Mediocre quest was also completed relatively fast, Jerry couldn't see himself completing these Mediocres a few weeks ago, still a little stupefied by his growth of power when he saw himself in action, the enemy dissapeared back to where it came from, Jerry levelled up and got 3 Attribute Points.

The last goblin for the upcoming days came out of thin air ready to attack at any moment and Jerry was prepared, both mentally and physically.

With a swift Slash charged cut he damaged the goblin's torso, it shrieked in response and Jerry decided to barrage it with more strikes so it wouldn't have time to recover, he hit it 5 times and the Slimy effect activated once, while the goblin was regaining its steadiness Jerry decided to end the fight, nothing else except 30 Coins were collected as a reward.

"So that's that." the sword returned to the Gear tab and Jerry sighed, his arms feeling weak from swinging the Metal Sword around so much some throbbing pain from the straight hit on the arm could be felt, the veins on his hands were now a bit more visible.

"You fought so well!" Quast congratulated his friend.

"Do you think I'm strong enough to do the dungeon now?" Jerry asked with his attention turned towards the dungeon entrance behind the trees.

"I'd say you could be?" Quast guessed. "What? Do you want to go in?"

"I mean, we could if you want to." Jerry suggested.

After debating it for a little bit and having a little break they decided to go in, it was an Easy dungeon after all.

With a little bit of stress and anxiety both of them walked to the deep blue entrance and a window appeared infront of Jerry.

[Enter Athrad's Dungeon]

[Difficulty : Easy]

[Time until close : 21 Days]

[YES][NO]

The option [YES] was selected and this time a window appeared infront of Quast.

[Enter Athrad's Dungeon with {Jerry}]

[Difficulty : Easy]

[Time until close : 21 Days]

[YES][NO]

Quast chose [YES].

Neither of the two had ever felt a feeling like that before, it felt like their entire existances just deflated and reinflated.

In the next known moment they were surrounded by old stone brick walls with moss and vines on them, occasionally there would be lamps with candles in them illuminating the place.

The air had a lot of moisture in it and drops of water could be heard falling down from the roof of the dungeon to the stoney ground.

Behind them was a dead end with the outline of what seemed to be an entrance, but it wasn't there anymore, and some distance infront of them to the right and left was a way they could turn. The dungeon was moderately big and Jerry could swing his sword in there if he wanted to.

They suddenly heard the low tone grumbling of unknown creatures coming from the right turn.

A thought flashed through Jerry's mind "Why is Quast here when he doesn't have any power to defeat the enemies?" and a shadow could be seen on the ground just behind the wall where the turn was, the faint and warm lights were trying their best to illuminate the place, a boney leg could be seen coming from behind the turn.

A skeleton was there, roaming around!
