Chereads / The Next Archangel / Chapter 16 - Hello!

Chapter 16 - Hello!

Theovolt considered himself to be an old orc but with the emergence of this pretty angel, he felt that he was stupidly old. Alicia was the closest to the window that had opened and checked to see who it was. She was smiling at a very tall, lean green-skinned orc who was wearing a black suit and a black cap under his armpit. He was also wearing glasses with brown frames but she was more interested in his beard.

Theovolt, the orc, was not in a good mood to entertain this and his first reaction to Alicia's greeting was.

"What are you doing here..."

"Sitting and talking about stuff."

"What?"

"Do you think you can help us?"

"I'll resort to force if you don't get off my tower in the next minute."

"Come on sir...we only just arrived and the view from here is great."

"Be gone..."

"Are you really sure that we can't just sit here...we promise not to do any damage!"

"Hmm...where are these other people you're referring to?"

Alicia smiled even brighter and held the orc's right hand and dragged him towards the other two who were blocked by the pointy roof on the other side. Once they were in view the old orc's frown deepened and he couldn't resist Alicia's strength.

'What exactly are you guys..."

"We are angels!"

"Alicia, who is this?"

"It's the owner of this tower apparently...that is if we go by what he had told me earlier."

"I am the head of this tower and I would like it if you could leave my tower."

"Why?"

"Because this is property belonging to his highness, Abrak the king of elves, and is considered a royal treasure."

"Can you please answer one question of ours..."

"What may that be..."

"What does this tower do exactly...I can see it's discharging magical energy everywhere but why is that?"

"Because we are trying to keep all the magic energy of this city in a steady flow. Is that answer good enough?"

"Umm...well honestly no, but thank you all the same."

Kyle got up from where he was sitting and hovered right next to Hannah. They looked like extremely powerful yet graceful people. The orc still had to follow protocol but then...

"Would you mind joining me for a cup of tea down at a cafe on the ground? you know that way you won't be doing anything illegal and I would like to know more about you."

"But you said you wanted us gone."

"I've changed my mind."

Hannah and Kyle exchanged sceptical looks but Alicia was different and immediately agreed to the orc's request. Kyle and Hannah showed visible suspicion but they agreed as well. Theovolt gestured for them to follow him and they climbed down the stairs to the top floor of the tower. They hid their wings and arrived on the corridor to Theovolt's office but he turned to his right and placed a hand on the stone wall. He smiled and a doorway appeared in the wall with marble stairs heading downwards. So they all walked down the stair spiral and arrived on the floor below Theovolt's.

There was a bunch of bustling people wearing the same suits as Theovolt and when they saw him approach they all saluted. He relieved them with a salute of his own and they all returned to their work with all sorts of filing cabinets and magic devices.

Theovolt seemed to be pleased with the work and with a swipe of his fingers to the left all the busy people and the entire floor blurred and disappeared.

Hannah was disoriented and couldn't help but trip on her feet and fell into Alicia's open hands. Theovolt grinned and with a spread of his arms he gestured to the large cobbled street they had appeared in. The people minding their own business before they arrived were all shocked and scared.

Theovolt loved teleporting all over the city and doing this so he was infamous because of it.

"I welcome you to the great city of Tracetta!"

***********

The streets of Tracetta were clean and the people looked well and simply dressed. The strong smell of baking goods hit the noses of the angels and their eyes gleamed. Theovolt grinned and with his guiding hand, an open path was opened for him and the angels. They passed a few street vendors who only gave them a glance and continued on their own businesses. There were a few patrolling elf guards who gave them a smile and greeting before moving on. Theovolt kept turning corners and leading them past cafes and restaurants with tasty scents of food to purposely increase their appetite.

He approached a small building that had a large wooden board above its doorway. Inscribed onto the wooden board was a few words in italic.

"The Kylote hut"

{an odd name for a cafe.}

Hannah quietly thought to herself as Theovolt placed his hand on the door and gave it a slight push. It opened smoothly and the sound of a bell ringing could be heard within the cafe. The first thing that greeted the angels was a strong iron scent that had their bodies quiver slightly. There was also the scent of crushed coffee beans and other food.

The door opened completely and they finally got a full glimpse of the cafe and couldn't help but admire it.

"The counter was made of birch wood with simple wooden stools behind it. The tables across the cafe were all adorned with glassware, napkins and crockery. There was also that peaceful atmosphere that made them even more hungry. A single human was attending to the counter with a glass cup in her hand. She was cleaning it with a towel and seemed to be really dedicated to it.

"Fuck off Theovolt."

"Come on Sheila...I brought customers to you."

"I said you fuck off...not them."

Theovolt nervously placed his large palm onto his bald head and rubbed a bit. The woman called Sheila seemed to be in a bad mood after speaking with Theovolt and her face came into full view when she looked up.

She had blonde braided hair, her eyes were a casual black and her height a bit shorter than Kyle's. She was having an expressionless face but her bad mood was obvious to see. Sheila placed the glass cup onto the counter and gestured to the stools by the counter.

Everybody took a seat and Theovolt tried to get Sheila in a good mood only to be hit by a magically enforced skillet. It smacked his face but didn't hurt him too badly, he wasn't offended and gave up on trying. He ordered a cup of tea, an apple pie and a few bread rolls that Sheila had just baked. He received everything and with the angels found a table by a corner of the cafe and sat down to eat.

The angels shared a quick prayer and the food seemed to smell even tastier and with Theovolt's permission, they ate. It was odd watching them eat, they took big portions of food yet it looked as if they were correctly measuring amounts.

{magic? I'm probably just overthinking it.}

Theovolt also joined them and they all ate. After finishing the bread rolls and a 1/4 of the apple pie they slowed down and Theovolt decided to start a conversation.

"So...I can assume you're not local people"

"Yes...we actually aren't from this world."

"What exactly is that supposed to mean..."

"We are angels, servants of his Majesty Elohim. We are here to complete a mission and this city is a part of it."

Theovolt frowned slightly but decided to not be rude and tried to ask how the city was a part of their plan.

"Actually...we aren't too sure, Kyle we should have checked the notebook earlier!"

"Hold on...let me check."
