Chapter 20 - The magic academy exam (4/7)

"You guys are going to the exam in two days."

The group was having dinner at the dining hall when Sheila spoke up with a meatball entering her mouth. Hannah showed visible pleasure and Alicia didn't seem to hear. Kyle was eating quietly and seemed to savour his meatball than anybody else.

Sheila was thankful that her guests were at least manageable and not destroying everything out of boredom. She placed her hand to her throat and seemed to massage it a bit before resuming her eating. Hannah finished first and announced that she would head to the study.

"What for exactly?"

"I was reading a certain book before dinner on the subject of this world's different lands. I think that there was something in there that may help us with our mission."

"Ok...good luck."

Hannah dismissed herself and the rest stayed in silence. Sheila saw no reason to start a conversation and silently finished her meal. She then dismissed herself to her own room on the third floor. Alicia and Kyle were left and they soon finished their meals as well but they continued to sit there.

"What do you make of this Alicia..."

"Its way too simple, I don't think something is right here."

"She was massaging a scar that was on her neck, most likely from a thin sharp blade."

"Assassination attempt?"

"I highly doubt but there is that possibility or...she got that for us to get into the magic academy."

Alicia's eyed flashed goldenly, a glimpse of her emotions, she picked up the knife next to her plate and fiddled around with it.

"What is it that you want me to say."

"I think we should be warier of this magic academy if we do make it into the academy."

"So how do you expect us to do that?"

"I don't think these weapons of ours are as simple as a sword and a magic bow...we had asked for weapons capable of protecting his majesty and we received these yet all we can do is swing the sword hard and shoot a ball of energy. Several other beings can easily defeat us."

"So you're saying that there is a possibility for our weapons to be far stronger than they are currently?"

"It may be that we're probably too weak for their full power or they were forcibly locked by his majesty."

Alicia frowned and placed her knife back on the table. She was well aware of what Kyle was trying to explain and she wasn't happy about it. It meant that they had to get stronger...could that be the reason his majesty wanted them to go to the magic academy. If so they indeed had to be wary.

Kyle got up from his seat and wished Alicia a good evening as he headed for his room. Alicia however, stayed in the dining hall playing with the fork next to her plate. She was now frustrated at how they couldn't simply be told what the end goal was and who they had to kill.

When the word kill entered Alicia's mind she dropped the fork suddenly and placed her hands to her head. It was another one of those headaches she had been getting since she was born. Her eyes flashed gold then a very bright blue and she grit her teeth in pain.

{KILL! KILL! KILL!... THEY SHALL ALL EXPERIENCE MY WRATH, EVERY BLOODY ONE OF THEM!!}

"AARGGHH!!"

Alicia fell to the ground on her knees. She was holding her hair within her fists and her bright blue eyes shone brighter. This always happened whenever her headaches appeared. Her mother had come up with a solution to help keep them at bay and she hadn't experienced headaches anymore after 6 years. It helped immensely but her mother wasn't here and that irritating voice had returned at full force.

Alicia started to cry. The pain was immense that she couldn't conceal her wings anymore and they sprouted from her back.

******

(Within the dark forest near the Death's rift.)

A single skeleton wearing dark clothing and several hidden blades. He was considered a very skilled assassin and was the second in command to his senior Sherick. This skeleton was playing with a throwing knife in his palm when he heard the sound of footsteps approaching him. He didn't react immediately and simply continued playing with his throwing knife. He was now sure that the footsteps were getting faster and that was when he reacted.

His entire figure, clothes and all were swallowed with a small cyclone of dark shadows and his existence in that area was completely terminated. The owner of the footsteps slowed down when they realised that the skeleton had managed to escape again. She stepped out and the sunlight revealed her appearance.

She had very pointy ears, slightly blue eyes and a very curvaceous figure. She held a curved dagger in her right hand and she was wearing assassin uniform. Her skin was dark and her hair was tied in a bun.

Her face was partially covered by a dark cloth and she was looking around. When she was sure that no traces of where the skeleton could have possibly disappeared to were found she returned to the shadows of the trees and vanished. She was on her way to report back to her outpost with quick speed and continuous shadow teleports.

The dark elves were now pissed with the lich family that had overstepped their boundaries.

*******

Sherick stood high atop a tree branch and was playing with a dagger in his right hand. He couldn't express any emotions with his skull but he was definitely amused right now. He watched the dark elf flash past him under the shadow of the tree he was on. He could assassinate her right there but he had something else to do.

He made a hand signal and a new skeleton scout appeared by his side with a scroll within its hand. It handed the scroll to Sherick, gave a bow and vanished in a puff of smoke. No sound was emitted at all.

Sherick opened the scroll slowly and scanned through it quickly. His emotion of amusement had changed to complete happiness. This news was definitely great and he closed the scroll, threw it down to the ground and watched as the scroll was burnt by black flames that extended from the tree's shadow. No smoke or sound and Sherick was sure that the scroll was destroyed. He turned around and jumped 10 metres to another tree branch.

He was going to go back to the manor to volunteer himself for the mission to watch the angels. They needed to be watched after the fearful aura the family had felt from that bow that one of them was carrying. The aura was hard to mask and their informants within the capital city of the elf king's territory had quickly found where they were residing.

"I should probably make sure none of those dark elves follows me...they really are a nuisance."

Sherick covered a distance of 100 meters in just ten seconds and he increased his jumping distance eventually breaking through the canopy and performing a flip to land his boots on a tree branch and jumping through the canopy once more. He was a shadow.
