Chapter 22 - The magic academy exam (6/7), CH 22.

Kyle watched in surprise as his father stood before him wearing golden armour. The guardian angel had a great sword strapped to his back. To kyle, this was the guardian angel his father always described himself as.

The eyes of the guardian angel glowed brightly. He moved his hands towards his waist and a large smile was on his face.

"You look as if you've seen a ghost son."

Angel Ryder laughed to himself and sat on the ground with his armour loudly. He looked at Kyle and ran his hands through his hair and imitated Kyle's current expression.

Kyle immediately snapped out of his stupor and tried to move his hands towards his sword. He was sure that he was still doing the exam but Ryder just watched.

"You don't need to be wary of me. I just came to have a quick chat with my son."

Kyle was still defensive and was now holding his sword tightly. Ryder wanted to convince his son but knew there wasn't enough time. He got comfortable and pointed towards his son.

"You are undergoing trials to calculate your worth. So far you seem to have done well and my higher-ups are observing you closely."

Kyle was still defensive against the words of Ryder, so he had the urge to slap the boy. That was when he had an Idea and smiled.

"If you don't listen to me I'll make sure to scrub these floors with your face."

That was when Kyle visibly calmed down and sheathed his sword. He scratched his hand spoke in an agitated tone.

"Why are you here father"

"I have something important to say."

Kyle seemed to be even more agitated but he sat down on the floor as his father and placed his sword to the side. Kyle was currently doing a test and here his father was to supposedly share some important news.

Ryder noticed his son's expression but wasn't disturbed by it. Instead, he pointed towards a pillar that was next to him and chanted some words. The pillar reacted violently with cracks spreading across its surface and foam leaking onto the floor. Kyle wasn't sure how to act seeing this. His father didn't stop there and was now pointing at a stone slab. The same thing happened to the stone slab and Kyle couldn't help but be curious.

"What exactly are you doing?"

"I'm just exerting my strength onto your mind and it looks it easily breaks."

"Huh?"

'"This is your mind. I am just passing by and I forcefully pulled you here so we could talk. You haven't managed to reinforce your mental fortitude to what it used to be...it looks great but it is weak.

I shouldn't have been able to enter here so easily and yet I did."

"Wait, you said that my mental fortitude isn't what it used to be?"

"That...isn't something you need to know. Just remember that you were given the sword Dyrnwyn for a specific reason and even if you fail to activate it right now it will prove useful at the right time."

Kyle was still not satisfied but the look in his father's eyes was disturbing. Ryder then looked around the pantheon and pointed his finger at random places. All of them reacted with cracks and foam.

'Why are you destroying my mind..."

"I'm simply testing it out. You'll repair yourself in a minute anyway."

Ryder stared at the floor before he got up. He stretched his arms and turned around with his sword swinging wildly in his movements. He had nothing more to do here.

He walked farther from Kyle to the deeper parts of the pantheon. Kyle wanted to chase after him but the corner of his vision was darkening. He couldn't stop it and it soon covered his entire vision.

Kyle was now back in the endless darkness with his sword. He stared into the darkness hoping for some form of movement but nothing. He was all alone in this endless void and didn't know how to get back to his friends. He got up from his sitting position and strapped on his sword. He then walked forward, the only direction he thought would prove beneficial.

He had to leave wherever this void, he had to get back to his friends. So he would create a path to them.

He unstrapped his sword and unsheathed it. He looked to the blade and placed his hand on it. He was going to use his abilities to forcibly activate it.

The first skill he wanted to use was [Authority]. His eyes flashed goldenly and he stared at his reflection on the blade. He then activated its full strength and a golden hue spread across the surface of the blade. He couldn't see any reaction but the force of [Authority] was evident around him. He was surrounded in a golden hue and his clothes seemed to flutter in an invisible breeze.

The power of [Authority] pressured the blade but no reactions. Kyle wasn't one to give up though and this was only one of the abilities his father had taught him. But then he suddenly felt a vibration from the surface of the blade and couldn't help but smile. This was the reaction he had desired.

He continued to pressure the blade and the vibrations gradually increased. It reached a point where Kyle struggled to place his hand on the surface of the blade. But he commanded it to obey him. He felt the vibrations calm down and the golden hue thicken.

[Yawn! who in fuck's name wants me so badly!]

There was a voice that had entered Kyle's mind and he quickly pulled away from the surface of the blade. It didn't react positively, however.

[You wake me up forcefully and when you hear my voice you move away?]

"Oh, I'm sorry!"

Kyle was now ecstatic, the sword had answered. The sword, on the other hand, was annoyed. Kyle calmed himself down and held the sword grip with both of his hands. He then spoke to the sword.

"May I ask for your assistance in helping me leave this place?"

[why should I?]

"Since we are both stuck here I think it would be beneficial to leave"

[pay me a fragment of your soul and I'll help.]

"How exactly do I do that?"

[Just say yes]

"I accept."

There was a change in the weight of the sword and Kyle couldn't help but swing it a few times. It was now the perfect weight and balanced perfectly. Kyle had everything he needed to escape this void now.

He calmed his breathing and focused on the sword. He wanted to reinforce it with some of his own holy aurae. He could feel his holy aura leave his body and spread across the blade of the sword.

He was attempting to ignite holy flames and destroy this darkness. He crouched low and kept his sword close to him. He moved forward with his right leg, his left and his right again until he was sprinting. He covered 12 meters before jumping high into the void. He did a little spin and with his sword cut an arch towards the darkness. To his surprise what left the blade wasn't holy flames but a very powerful silver blade ray that flashed in the darkness. It seemed to hit some invisible surface and sunk into it.

A large crack appeared in the darkness. Smaller cracks then spread out from the large crack and spread across the entire darkness. Silver light spread from the web cracks and surrounded Kyle. He smiled and gripped the sword tighter. The silver light spread everywhere and eventually, Kyle had to close his eyes but not before he heard a whisper in his ears.

[Why...why did you want to leave me...]

Kyle couldn't answer as the void completely collapsed and his terrain changed before his eyes. He was now standing within a giant hall with large stone pillars surrounding him and the Demi-human standing before him.
