Chereads / The Next Archangel / Chapter 15 - Tracetta

Chapter 15 - Tracetta

The angels had been flying nonstop through the night sky with no fatigue arising at all.. Which to them felt extremely weird but refreshing at the same time. They had flown for a continuous two hours and to their surprise the faint orange colour of sunrise could be seen beyond the mountains.

It was a beautiful scene to look at and they stopped moving forward for a minute to admire the view. They had flown for a stunning 160 kilometers yet they hadn't seen the capital city of the elf kingdom. The flight wasn't uneventful though. They had come across several small towns and villages.

They lowered their altitude just to get a closer look at them and we're pretty impressed with the sights. The villages and towns seemed to have multiple races other than the elves who took majority..

At some point Alicia wanted to drop down to see the sights up close but Hannah stopped her saying it was best to not do it with their wings on.

Alicia found a small abandoned mine next to a small town and they all landed there as subtly as they could. They hid their wings away and found the general path towards the town that wasn't too far. There were people walking in and out of the town's borders and the angels followed a carriage that was given entry on sight.

However, they were stopped and when asked for identification they found themselves lost on what to do. So they turned around and while in the midst of there living beings, revealed their wings and flew away leaving several stunned people. A merchant even started to pray to the elf god.

They were on their way once more and only stopped once more to play a quick game of tag.

After another half hour the terrain under them seemed to change. there were more villages and towns with even more trees and lakes. Then gray paths appeared which they assumed to be roads. They then flew above a large gray castle with red banners al around it. They still hadn't reached the capital but civilisation seemed to grow the longer they flew.

"Hey guys..."

"yes?"

"Don't you think we should try to explore this kingdom when we get a chance?"

"I see no problem with that."

"Sure."

They continued in silence and peace until finally...

"Woah!! that's a huge city."

Below them they could see a large city surrounded by a thick wall. Buildings were separated by large cobbled roads into sections while there was constant smoke being emitted from chimneys across the city.

It looked beautiful with statues clearly shown in large wide open spaces for all to appreciate.

The angels stopped flying and stared down at the city below them.

"Do you think that's the capital?"

"Let me check."

Alicia pulled out the notebook from her pocket and checked the objectives list. The third objective hadn't changed in any way which could only mean that this wasn't the capital.

"But it's so large!!"

Kyle flew around in circles, his curiosity was getting the better of him and before he knew it he was gliding closer to the city. Hannah and Alicia followed him and soon they were just 60 meters above the tallest building that was a strange tower with a glass staircase spiralling around it to the top.

Kyle hovered where he was and admired the view for a while before flying back to the original altitude.

The other two stayed where they were dismissively telling Kyle they would follow after him. So he continued flying while the sisters hovered.

"Don't you think we should explore?"

"We can do that later..."

"Why should we wait when we have a chance to do it right now?"

"Because it would be better to find the capital first before anything else. We had been to a small town yet we weren't allowed access because we don't have identification documents...maybe we can find them at the capital. So let's go."

Alicia reluctantly followed after her sister and Kyle.

They flied for another hour before another city came into view. This one was mush larger than the last with archer towers along the walls and bright yellow banners. The city gates were tall and looked strong from where they flew. The city itself stretched for a while with it's design the exact same as the last city. roads separated the buildings into different sections. There were several weird looking buildings as far as the group coul see with those towers being most abundant.

They lowered their altitude and approached the tallest of these towers. This tower was more exquisitely designed with gold being the most used resource. The glass staircase looked larger than the last with a size difference of at least two times. The gold shined nicely in the sunlight.

When they were hovering just above the top of the tower...

"I think this is a magic tower."

"What makes you think that?"

"I'm sensing large discharges of magical energy into the surrounding atmosphere from somewhere around its top."

"Why would they be discharging magic energy into the atmosphere? don't they need it to do magic itself?"

Kyle was confused at the actions of the city residents while Hannah seemed to be in thought.

Alicia hovered over the top of the tower before she suddenly decided to sit down on the ledge of its pointy top.

She leisurely kicked her legs and relaxed. Kyle saw no problems with her actions and joined her. Hannah still remained hovering but was now close to the ledge as well.

"I think they are using the towers to balance the magic energy of the entire city."

Kyle was looking down towards the city and hadn't heard what Hannah said but Alicia did.

"Why would they do that...this world doesn't seem to be struggling in resources or life energy. I don't see any need to control magic energy with these things."

"Well maybe they are just for recycling magic energy that may be dispelled into the surrounding air from the city's use. You know to prevent wastage."

"Maybe."

Alicia was fine with whatever her sister considered to be right and wrong. Plus the theory made sense if thought carefully upon.

"This is definitely the capital, guess the size difference wasn't really that much. But then what was the other city we had passed..."

"Maybe just another large city."

"Your Majesty, what is the name of the capital?"

[it's called Tracetta, the city of magic and adventurers- Jesus]

*******

(Within the central magic tower of Tracetta.)

A man was holding a quill in his hand with a blank sheet of paper before him. He needed to write a letter to the dean of the Trascot magic academy about the report he received for illegal usage of S-ranked military weapons on school grounds.

He wanted to be as polite as possible but military equipment wasn't something he could brush off easily. So he placed down his quill and scratched his short black beard. He was tired but his job required his utmost attention.

He got up from his seat and walked to the door of his office. He pushed it open and as subtly as possible he shut it closed. He then proceeded down the brightly lit corridor and stood by the staircase heading to the top of the tower. He removed his cap and tucked it under his armpit while heading up the stone stairs.

He needed to lose some steam. His leather boots made little sound as he finally reached the widow to the roof top. All he needed was a good push and it should open right away.

He placed a single hand on the glass window and with a grunt he pushed it open.

The space was just big enough for him to fit through and so climbed out onto the slanted roof tiles.

He stretched his back a bit before turning to look at his surroundings and met the gaze of a young girl with wings who was hovering right next to him.

"Hello!"
