Point of View (Jenna)
They looked really surprised, "What?"
"Fine... just show me your dark heart necklace," I replied, holding out my hand.
Zadkiel pulled on their chain around their neck, taking it off and giving it to us, "Here, can I see yours?"
"No," I replied.
"Why not?" he asked, frowning.
"I'm pretty sure you know what a black heart looks like." I looked down at his, an orange heart connected to a chain necklace.
"Well, mine's pretty boring, too. It's just orange. I thought that was something dark heart guardians did. Like, sharing things..." he responded slowly.
I rolled my eyes, "Fine." I took off my choker and handed it to him, "How is yours so bright?"
"Because I tried my hardest. It was definitely not easy."
"Well I did, too, but apparently that's not enough."
"Then you probably need to stop trying as hard. It's really pretty," Zadkiel said, smiling.
I rolled my eyes, "So... you're a boy?"
"Nope," they replied, shaking their head.
"So then you're a... girl?" I asked, squinting my eyes.
They shook their head again, 'Nope."
"What... are you?" I asked.
"An angel... I just don't have a gender. The big man didn't know that us having genders would actually help. He'd probably just say it was fate, though. And, I have something to say. You should relax... it's fine that he's still in the Dark Heart Realm. He probably doesn't care."
I growled, "Shut up." 𝐇𝐞'𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰. 𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐨 𝐛𝐚𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.
"Jenna... calm down." I clenched my fists, but something covered my face and someone pulled me away.
"Woah, ok, then. Bye, Jenna!" Domiel exclaimed as they dragged me away.
"Ugh, who is this?! Ithuriel? Abel? I swear, if it's you, Ithuriel...!" I growled angrily.
Then, someone said, in a deep voice, "It's us... you're being kidnapped!" I could feel them dragging me across the floor and into a different room.
"Who is this?" I asked, kicking my legs.
"It's us! Leah and Azariah!" they replied, taking off the blindfold.
"Really?! No way you two absolute idiots kidnapped me!"
They looked at each other, confused, "But... we did, though. Umm... did we?"
"We're gonna have so much fun!" Azariah yelled, jumping up and down.
Leah nodded really fast, "Absolutely!"
"What's your favorite color?!"
I sneered, "Black. As black as my soul."
Their eyes widened and then Azariah said, "Ummm... mine's green, I think. I can't think right now."
Leah got excited, "Mine's green, too! I also like the color yellow!"
I glared at them for a while, but they wouldn't budge, "Fine, let me go and I might decide to not kill you."
They quickly let me go and Azariah asked, "Can I try on your choker? It looks so cute!"
I quickly realized how dumb she really was, "You would die... immediately. Your brain would implode and you'd die." I looked at the necklace, seeing that it's a really dark blue.
Leah smiled, "What's their name?"
"Your necklace has a name?" Azariah asked, tilting her head sideways.
"Has anyone told her anything?" I exclaimed. She shook her head solemnly and I continued, "This is my dark heart necklace. Inside of it is the dark heart that I guard. Everyone is a guardian of something. I'm the guardian of darkness. You don't have a dark heart, you have a... regular heart? I don't know, but you guys don't get a necklace."
"Woah, so what's their name?"
"Don't know it, yet."
"Can we try to name it? Can we?!" Leah asked, jumping up and down.
"Fine," I replied, shrugging my shoulders, "Do it."
"What about Mordecai? He's from my favorite book of the Bible. He adopts his cousin and helps her free her people," Leah suggested, smiling.
"That sounds good."
"OH! I have a game we can play! It's SO violent and I love it! The bed is the ship and one of us has to be the evil pirate who tries to stop us from getting on the ship. The pirate to get on the ship first is the winner and if we can't get on in ten minutes, the evil pirate wins," Azariah explained, jumping on her bed. I took my choker off, deciding it wouldn't be that bad if it was only for a little bit.
After a while of pushing them off the bed, I heard, "Supper's ready!" from the kitchen. We immediately rushed to the table.
Azariah sat down, smiling, "Ithuriel, I've made a friend today!" But then I realized I left my choker in the bedroom. So, I left to go get it.
As I started to leave, Leah asked, "Where are you going?"
"I left my choker in Azariah's room," I responded, leaving the room. I got into the room and walked over to the bedside table. Now, it was just a blue instead of a dark blue. I smiled, putting it on as I left the room to go to the dining room.
When I got there, Leah gasped, really loudly I might add, "Jenna, it's so much lighter! That's so awesome!"
I shrugged, smiling as I took my seat, "It's whatever." I paused for a moment, eating my food. Then I realized I could get some more information on the local news and such. "So, I heard The big man had a dark heart that he guarded. Who was that?"
"Oh, Coretha? I've heard of her before, but she just works at headquarters."
Ithuriel's eyes lit up, "I know all about her! She's technically the guardian of The Nothingness. She used to be on heck's side, but The big man got her on our side and she slowly earned her place here by being the dark heart of The big man. She was born 1070 years before everything. The weird thing is, she doesn't age. She's been here for 2000 years, at least, but she's 12 years old both physically and mentally."
"So, she's... pretty famous, right? Why is she in this sector and not any of the other sectors?" I asked.
"This section is the main section and so we have the only headquarters in sector B."
"What room am I gonna sleep in?" I asked, tucking my right foot under my left leg on the chair.
Azariah started bouncing up and down in her chair, "We should have a sleepover! Can Leah join us?!"
Abel and Ithuriel exchanged glances and then Abel replied, "Ok, Leah can stay the night there."
Leah and Azariah jumped up and down, yelling, "YES!" After a while of the grownups talking, Domiel and Zadkiel left. We all decided to go run around outside. I didn't start running in the first place, Leah got tired second and then Azariah fell down last, completely wiped out. I walked inside, the other two crawling on the floor. We played more games and we set up our beds for the night.
"You know, you don't have to lay down on the floor. We can all just share the bed," Azariah said, sitting down on her bed.
Leah's eyes got bright and wide, "Really?! Ha, I'm gonna kick you off the bed!"
"Not if I kick you off first!" she exclaimed, doing karate moves.
I started to lay down for the night and I looked at my necklace one last time, "Oh, huh, someone's pretty eager. That's white."
"What?!" Azariah asked, turning to me.
"It's white. I wonder what that means. WAIT, does that mean he's nice now?!" Leah asked, her eyes wide.
I rolled my eyes, "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard you say, Leah." But then my conscience kicked in, so I added, "Sorry, that's just... that's wrong. It means that he's not in there."
"Should I... tell my parents?" Azariah asked slowly.
I nodded, "Probably. I don't know."
(Cool monologue by The big man)
"You may be wondering they're saying that! The reason why it's so so important is that, well, I'll just tell you in the form of a story!" The big man explained, "Let's start the video!" I pushed play.
(Video)
"Coretha, we're going to make a video for all the angels wondering what's so important about the dark heart necklaces turning white. Coretha, we need to lengthen this video, so start at how The Nothingness made these dark hearts, please," The big man said, smiling.
Then Coretha explained, "When The Nothingness made the dark hearts, The big man made these meters to track the dark hearts. Lately, they've changed to be worn in a more fashionable way."
The big man nodded, "Can I just say, carrying around a red thermometer wasn't the best fashion choice I've made. Do a quick overview of who The Nothingness is."
"The Nothingness is kind of like the great equalizer. It was the first thing here and it keeps the universe in check. That's why there are dark hearts. They were made when the angels were given different amounts of power."
"Ok, now, talk about the significance of the necklace turning white. What it means."
"The color the necklace is has to do with several things. The first one is how much the dark heart wants to be reborn. A dark heart could be in the dark heart necklace for centuries just because they're too stubborn to be reborn as an angel. The second one is how stressed out the dark heart guardian is. So, they definitely aren't going to be reborn if they're stressing out about when they're gonna be reborn. Color doesn't matter, but their relation to black or white definitely does. That's pretty much it. When it turns white, the dark heart is reborn as an angel. That's pretty much how it is. I was pretty old in The Dark Heart Realm, but now I'm like... ten or something and I showed up behind the reception desk in headquarters. So, who knows where they're gonna show up?"
"I do!" The big man exclaimed, jumping up, "That's why I'm best friends with Coretha!"
Just before the camera cut off, Coretha yelled, "Not best friends! And, you're welcome!"
(End of Video)
"She was kidding. We're best friends. So, in Jenna's case, it's probably a bit of both."
