Gray stared at the new comer who is quietly sitting on the very edge of the classroom. He's been looking uninterested and aloof the whole time that his classmates are having a hard time approaching him.
But there's something about the way he looks at others that intrigues Gray. He can't pinpoint it out yet but he is sure that his eyes looks dead, that it somehow creeps him out.
Then their eyes meet, making him flinch in surprise. And Gray could swear that he saw nothing but emptiness on his eyes. But the newcomer quickly took back his glance before he could even acknowledge him and proceeded to stare at the window again.
The transfer student sure is catching his attention.
"Gray!" His friend, Castle called.
He quickly looked away, he must've been staring at him for too long. "What?"
"It's break time. Let's eat!"
"Okay." He stand up and stretched, secretly stealing a glance at him before walking out of the classroom.
-
The class has ended. Gray and Castle are among the students walking on the building. The two will talk about random things until someone catches Gray's attention. It is Lucas who is calmly standing outside the school looking as if he's waiting for someone. His expression still void of emotions.
"Why?" Castle asked when he noticed Gray's silence. He followed his gaze and saw him staring at Lucas. "He's kind of weird, right?"
"Huh?"
"I mean, he never talked to anyone. It seems like he has his own world and we're not welcome in it."
"Maybe he has a reason." Gray reasoned out and averted his gaze at something else. "Besides, it's his 1st day here, of course he won't open up that easily." He doesn't even know why he's defending the transferee when Castle is right, he does seem to have a world on his own. They continued walking afterwards.
Castle shrugged his shoulders. "He's still weird to me."
Then they walked past Lucas. Gray felt the cold and aloof aura surrounding him. He glanced at him secretly to see him checking his phone. They soon reached the intersection where he and Castle will part ways. He has to ride a bus home while Castle just needs to cross the intersection.
Gray is calmly waiting for the bus when he heard his phone ringing. He fished it out of his pocket and answered it without finding out who the caller is.
"Gray..." Called a low, trembling voice. "How-"
He didn't let the caller finish when he hanged up and put it back on his pocket. He took a deep breath to relieve the sudden stress and irritation that he's feeling right now.
The bus came and he boards in it. He reached for the one with no other passenger sitting and sat beside the window. It will have to pass the school again. He will see Lucas walking down, his head low and seems to be still busy reading something on his phone. And for the first time, he finally saw an expression on his face. He looked like he's in pain.
He didn't got to see what happened next as the bus already went pass him.
The transferee student sure is really catching his attention.
