Chapter 6 - Remember - 6. The persistent one

"Can you see me, Lucas? This... This is what I'll do."

Lucas shaked his head violently, his tears blocking his vision. He stood there frozen, hating himself for not being able to do anything, only hoping that his tears and pleas will be enough to stop him.

But he only smiled at him. A smile that telling him that he's given up, A smile that lose all remaining hope for Lucas.

"P-please... D-don't do it..."

"Can you see me, Lucas? Look at me..."

"N-no... No... No!"

Lucas jolts up from bed, with beads of sweat forming on his forehead. That dream, everytime he's about to fall deep in sleep, that dream never fails to show up.

He hopelessly covered his face with his hand. Soon enough he could feel it getting wet due to tears.

"Please... Stop it... I-I don't want it anymore..."

-

His mother's already in the dining room eating when he got outside of the room. He quietly joins her. It was always like this, acting as if they're strangers from each other. It was suffocating, but they're slowly getting used to it.

"Lucas, I found-"

"I'm not going." He interrupted her, his words with finality.

"I'm only doing this for you, Lucas. It's been long enough. Please-"

"I am not going." He insisted, anger slowly building up inside.

"Lucas-"

"I AM NOT CRAZY!" He shouted and slammed the table, making her mother flinched. He was quick to put back his stern expression when he realized his actions.

"I'm done eating. I'll be going." He stood up and left the house without turning around.

Her mother just watch her leave with tears in her eyes. If only she's able to watch him closely, maybe this would never happen. This is all her fault why his son turned into like this. And she's scared, so scared that maybe everything's too late to fix it.

-

"Say, have you heard the news?"

"What news?"

"About the transferee!"

"Transferee? Ah, that quiet kid? Why? What's with him?"

"They say that the reason he transferred school is because he killed someone!"

"What? Really? W-where did you hear that?"

"I just heard the other section talking about him. Apparently, one of them knows someone who knows Lucas and told them that he indeed killed someone!"

"Isn't that scary? Then why did the school accepted him?"

"I heard he is rich and influential that's why the school turned a blind eye and accepted him."

"That's crazy. I-"

"You're all so noisy." Gray interrupted and lightly hit his classmates on the head with a notebook. He's been trying to fall asleep but all he can hear is them talking about Lucas.

"You're too much. What is wrong with you?" One of his classmate that he hit whined and frowned while touching her head. "We're just talking here!"

"Yeah. And you're noisy. I can't sleep."

"Is this your bedroom huh? Go sleep in your house!"

"What did you say?" He said and hit her again with a notebook. His classmate's frown went even longer.

"I told you to stop! I hate you, Gray."

Gray just grinned at them and continued to sleep while he gave them another warning to be quiet. All those nonsense rumors are making his head ache. It's not like he cares but making an assumption about someone based on other's story is too much. They didn't even asked about Lucas' side and just went ahead and judged him.

Why does he care anyway? Lucas keeps ignoring people and he doesn't seem to care if all of them talked behind his back. It's like he became a robot and turned off all his emotion.

'I wonder, what made him that way?' He shook his head. 'It's not my business to know. I should stop this.'

He looked up when he noticed that the class went quiet. Lucas is walking towards his seat. It seems like everything and everyone has stopped by the way their classmates are holding their breaths. Looking back at him who's the same as always, with his empty, dead looking eyes and a stern expression.

Even their teacher got surprised when he got welcomed by silence. Then one glance at Lucas and immediately found out why.

'Tsk. Even the teacher seemed to believe that story. So childish.'

Breaktime came and Gray didn't know what has gotten into him that he ran away from Castle and went straight to the old gym equipment storage. There's this strong urge in him to talk to Lucas even though he knows that he'll be ignored.

As expected, Lucas is there quietly eating. He doesn't seem to notice his presence so he stood there for a long time wondering what he wants to say.

'Why did I run away from here? What do I even want to say?'

"Lucas."

He stops eating and stares at him. He could feel a slight chill climbing up on his back by the way he is staring at him with his dead eyes.

"Are... you okay?" Was the first thing he could think of.

'I really don't know why I'm doing this. Why am I so curious about him?'

Lucas didn't said anything but for a brief moment, he could swear that he saw a hint of emotion in his eyes.

'He must've heard of the rumors about him.'

If this for another moment, he would have been mad right now but he wants to be calm this time and to talk to him normally.

"Are you really going to ignore me? I'm being nice here!"

"I never told you to do that."

Oh snap. He's getting mad again. But this is his fault again. Lucas is right. He never told him to run and look for him, or even worry about him.

Before he knew it, Lucas already finished eating and on his way back to the classroom again. Gray followed him.

"Look, I don't know the truth but I don't believe that rumors." He said while Lucas continue to ignore him. He started walking faster that irritated Gray even more. "Oh c'mon, I just want to be your friend!" He shouted, sounding so desperate. Lucas finally stops walking.

"I don't need a friend." Was all he uttered coldly before walking away again.
