Botan Date: "I am sorry to have to wake you up, but we really must get moving again. The horses are rested and watered properly. We still have a way to go. Hopefully, we can put in another ten miles or so."
Kaida Endo: "Alright we understand. We will be as quick as possible."
I rousted my brother and we then proceeded to tear down camp at a quicker pace than expected, getting things tied down and the horse hitched up. We then proceeded to move out once again. To our surprise, the next week of our journey seem to fly by as we then approached the outskirts of the area known as Oshu. Our eyes grew wide as me and my brother saw the sight before us. We had always lived in the mountains, so to see a plain area and one of the biggest fences I had ever seen was so damn shocking. We were not sure what to make of the situation. We had never been caged before. Even the fields that were being worked had fences around them. I was not sure what to make of this situation at all. I looked around hesitantly and to my brother, as I was unsure of how to respond to the sight before me. Before I could say anything aloud. Botan Date trotted beside us on his horse and slowly started to explain the way things in city areas worked. I think he saw the confusion on my face and wanted to clear things up.
Botan Date: "I know what you are about to say. But the fences are in place for a reason. We have barriers set up. It helps to ensure the vampires that can cross the barrier cannot harm anyone that is working in the fields. It is not much but it is better than nothing. We do not need any more lessors running around now do we?"
Kaida Endo: "I suppose that is more than true. I take it the ones working the fields are humans then. Sorry, but I have never been fenced before."
Botan Date: "That is correct. Humans must eat, so food must be grown and raised. Basic facts about either side cannot be changed. There is also a clinic inside for the sick and wounded. We try to make sure all stay healthy."
Kaida Endo: "Well it looks like my skills has an alchemist will come in handy here as well. That is really good to know."
Tsubasa Endo: "Do you have those who hunt to help feed the others or do you raise animals?"
Botan Date: "As you would probably have guessed, we have animals we raise here. Do not worry, we not only have cows, goats, chickens, pigs, and the like, but we have deer to that we have had rounded up just for breeding. We made sure to have a variety of wildlife that could be easily captured and bred to sustain all the humans. With the lessor threat out there and the pure bloods that have lost themselves, it is too dangerous to have any of you out and about freely. There is, after all, only us four and our garrison to help stop the others."
Kaida and Tsubasa Endo: (The words came out of us both at the same time, as though it were rehearsed.) "Well that is a very good point indeed."
Botan Date: "Well now that this particular explanation is out of the way, we will arrive at my estate soon enough, if you look on the hillside, you can see it from here. It is not that big."
All we could do was stare in absolute awe at the sight before us. So many new and exciting things, large fenced areas, building designs we had never known to exist. It was surely a sight to behold no matter how we looked at it. I was still oddly puzzled as to how he could claim his home was not huge. All I could see in the distance was a home that looked like a castle, not a large house.
We looked in the direction he was pointing and sure enough, a huge mansion could be seen sitting atop of a hill overlooking the city of Oshu. We looked in awe as we had never seen anything so huge in our entire lives. The closer we got the bigger it seemed to get. On the right side of the mansion were large enough buildings to store enough food for our whole village for years. Botan Date then proceeded to tell us how the one side was used for the soldiers as barracks and the other side held the livestock and grain silos. It was a hugely impressive sight to behold. He had everything humans could possibly need to survive all gathered and taken care of. That alone changed my perception of him even more than before. We finally came to a halt in front of the main house. We gathered up what belongings we had brought with us, there was not much after all, and we were then escorted inside as the wagon we used, and the rest of the troops headed to their posts to trade out troops and rest up.
Walking up to the door alone felt like going into a totally different world. I nervously grabbed onto my brother's arm as we braced ourselves and walked through the tall doors. They seemed to be as tall as trees. I had never seen doors so damn big in all my short life. The look on my brother's face was no better than mine. All the servants abruptly stopped what they were doing and proceeded to immediately line the walkway greeting the Vampire lords as they entered the main entry hall. Taking coats and automatically offering drinks to them. I was surprised to see that half of them were human, or at least they looked it. At this point, the lines in looks were beginning to blur, only teeth would give away who was what now outside looks alone. All we could hope for now was that there would be no animosity to the fact that we were there. I mean even the soldiers did not want to believe we were the fabled family. There was no telling how the house servants were going to react at this point.
