Chapter 1 - 1.1

My Name is Seo Jin, 32 years old before I had an accident. A stupid accident to be honest.

I was an actor, not the most famous one but well; one of the famous actors in the country or even worldwide.

I had a great day, two weeks after I finished shooting my drama and the second episode got a high rating.

Went home while eating bread after a shot for a local magazine, I even gave a free sign for fans who recognized me in the city while I strolled around.

Maybe it was a mistake, visiting a random book store because the front looked so odd and pretty.

"You had a good eye, son," the old man who sat behind the counter gave a thin smile, I bow slightly after flashing a thin smile.

I didn't use my mask, taking off my baseball cap, "the colour is so pretty," I said while caressing a medium figure of a crimson bird.

They crafted the statue so professionally, the bird made of stone engraved by crafty hand, "the red colour is so bold, various shades of red."

The old man let out a light chuckle, "do you know what kind of bird is that?"

I stared at the feather, I wondered how soft the real one could be and how majestic this bird if it was real.

"Nope," I answered easily, "though I believe it would extinct because the human would hunt them down for its beauty."

The old man approached me, patting my back, "believe me, son," he replied, "no one would have the gut to hunt it down."

I didn't talk about it any longer, feeling boredom attacked fast.

I was about to leave the store when the old man approached me again, "wait, son," the old man waved his hand.

As a good young man, I walked back to him who stood behind the counter.

"Here," he said, handing me a piece of paper, similar to an amulet I once saw in a shaman's where my mother went to ask for a piece of advice.

"Sorry?" I raised my eyebrow, "I don't–"

The old man shook his head politely, "it's free, consider this as a good luck charm."

I nodded, feeling a little happy for the extra merchandise from a random old man like a child getting free candy.

"Thank you!" I said with a big grin before leaving the store.

The very next day, with the same denim jacket I wore yesterday.

The amulet still inside my inner pocket.

I died.

A maniac fan hit me with her car because she failed to get a ticket to my fan-meeting.

I recalled how sunny that day after I wave the last goodbye from the stage and getting off.

My manager was away to buy me an ice Americano while my bodyguard was standing surrounding me.

I heard a loud honking, a scream, and people suddenly ran away.

I remembered one of my friend, one of the staff, she pulled me away but then I saw one of my fan who brought her child to the fan meeting shrieked.

Her child standing in the empty area, where the car drove fast as if it didn't have any brake.

My feet moved by itself, my memories were blurry, the ground; hissing; people's screaming my names.

"Famous actor Min Seo Jin died for saving one of the fan's child, he died because one of fan tried to hit him by a car-"

It wasn't so bad, I thought, dying with a good memory like this one.

Dying as a hero.

Saving someone's life.

At my last breath, the hospital's ceiling was blinding as the nurse pushed my bed to the operating room.

I felt so many of my blood dripped down, pouring and oozing like a river.

I huffed, my body was all sore and hurting, I looked to my left and saw my manager cried as he kept saying hang in there.

Brother, I hope you would remember this one old friend who often disturbs you and nag you to drink together.

I had a good life.

Living with my passion for acting and having so many kind fans, aside from that one psycho of course.

Suddenly a question crossed my mind, I hadn't learned that bird name.

The one with bold colour, shades of red and looking so majestic and beautiful.

I wonder what kind of bird it was.

It was so mesmerizing, once again my mind dozed off and I felt numb.

Captivated, I wanted to feel the softness of its feathers against my hands.
